Everything I need to craft is expensive. Anything I can craft doesn't sell. I just blew one and a half million gil on an HQ ironworks chest, hoping it would help me a little, but then I realized I have no idea what I'm doing in the first place. Then I went specialist, only to find myself completely stumped at what any of these new skills do or how I'm supposed to use them when I could barely fit my old 50 rotation into my CP pool.

But I also want to craft neat things just so I can do something other than blow stuff up in duties. I have CRP, GSM, CUL at 50+ and ALC, WVR at 60, plus a 60 BTN. I don't want to start up LTW, ARM, BSM, and MIN yet, if only because I ran out of leve allowances. Every other damned material I need is somehow MIN related though, and it burns a hole in my wallet.

Hearing from my friends who craft, they don't even use them. Your cross classes from the other classes as you leveled were what you need.

Craft 1 of everything for the EXP bonus, quick synth something cheap and easy (those 2 mat to make a mat you need a lot of crafts) for alt tab exp.
If you don't think you can craft something or HQ it, get somebody else to do it for SURE. I had my friend make my set because I didn't want to blow it up myself.
Crafting sucks. Money and crafting for friends doesn't. It's worth it, I swear.

you can level mining through straight grinding of at-level stuff if you can stomach it, but leves are generally faster.

crafting sucks really, really fucking hard until everything is at 50 just about, because there's so many sub materials that require other crafting jobs. you have to get used to it, you need a large reserve of CP so you can actually DO things, you have to figure out rotations for what you want to craft, etc., etc., etc.

don't get too discouraged, you'll make it if you keep at it. doing your starred provisioning dailies for crafters and gatherers helps you get a nice chunk of EXP on the side that's independent of leves. you can do the unstarred ones too, just be sure you turn in HQs, it doubles your EXP reward.

I only recently got an opportunity to craft an HQ GSM grinding wheel for an FC member while leveling CRP. That was a good feeling, mostly because you know what to craft, what you need, and for what purpose, rather than producing something in the hopes it'll profit you somehow.
Sounds reasonable. I think I'll take a break from the other crafting ones and see if I can't level MIN instead. At least I know I can make some money selling silver and whatnot, plus I remember leveling BTN was relatively comfy in comparison.

It's mostly CUL with its mats that broke me, with a side of GSM and not having access to MIN. Now that I got it out of the way and realized I haven't gotten that much better at being an ALC, I feel a little discouraged. Right now I'm going to see whether I can scrape together some money by mass-producing echo-drops since I can get the materials easily.

I mostly can't see how everyone else managed to get themselves to where they are, desynthesizing things for their mats, crafting ironworks stuff, making lots of money and all that. Maybe I'll get there eventually.
