I use and R9 Blind Rage on Saryn.

Yes, it's the eye color but the glow messes it up a bit. There's not supposed to be a white. Do you have an invis frame? Go invis and the cat will too. That will show what its color is. Or if you have one of the emblems that show energy color, equip that on the cat and it will work.
