DPI is kind of a weird term, because monitors don't really have dots. Monitors have pixels! DPI is still used as the term, though, because mouse movement is based on virtual pixels in a linear inch.

Mouse DPI is a relationship between how far your mouse moves on a surface to how far it moves on the screen.
