It's strange how you never hear about economic crisis in the ME universe. Humanity as a whole seems to have coasted right past geopolitical/socioeconomic/ethnic division and right into space utopia.

Probably because of the First Contact War. Once we became privy to other (hostile) life in the galaxy, it became less "blacks vs whites vs browns" to "humanity vs everything else." I hope humanity gets to that point IRL eventually.

Think about it: In every fictional setting, every other race is tied to one background. There's the militaristic race, the barbarian race, the mystical race, the industrious race, the sexy race, ect.

Humanity is all of those. We're the jack-of-all-trades (master of none) and we need to stop fucking with each other so we can realize our true potential.

In the context of Mass Effect though, humanity doesn't really have their niche. The turians have the best military, salarians lead the galactic community in science, the asari have the most affluent race and political clout, the quarians are thriftier and are better engineers, and the krogans are the best fighters.

Where does humanity have the edge in any of that? Numbers? Maybe, but not to any significant degree. We're scrappy, but three of the five races mentioned above could easily kill a human in an unarmed fight. We love to lean on our hardware, but none of our tech outmatches the turians or the salarians (or even the quarians). And politically, it took the entire counsel being murdered to get us any sway at all, and even then the rest of the galaxy gives us no respek.

Humanity has what it's always had in fiction: Heart and resolve. And in scifi/fantasy, that edges out any other practical/sensible/rational advantages.

Humanity is the mary sue race in ME. Fastest spectre, fastest council seat, important army, most wanted by reapers etc.
That's not heart and resolve, it's just plot armour and shit writing

As far as the game itself is concerned, yes. As for the lore at large, humanity gets by on muh heart alone

Well of course the dev is going to put its protag on the fast track. Nobody wants to play a character that has to wade through years of bureaucratic bullshit and discrimination while they work their way to the top, they want to be put right in the driver's seat. Game mechanics/structure don't speak for the canon itself.

That's a nonsense excuse. They could have easily made it so that other races had gotten those things earlier as well, but instead the game goes out of its way to point out how fast and great humanity is compared to all other races. That has nothing to do with game mechanics, that's just purely the lore having humanity as a mary sue race
