So I found a dealership who has an Opel GT in very good condition: the interior is mint and the body is pretty much rust free except a tiny patch where the paint is bloated a bit.
The drivetrain is kaput though. It needs a full engine rebuilt cause the engine is seized.
I am tempted to do two things:
1. swap a 2L from something or another 2. EV conversion
What do you guys think? If option 1, what would be ideal? I don't care about speed and performance. I just want it to be reliable and simple to work on. Minimal electric shit cause I only have experience with carbs so far but I can probably learn basic EFI stuff.
Bunch of people in my Uni are doing an EV conversion, but they had two rusted to shit shells, and the project honestly just seems too much for their skill/knowledge. They're trying to fab some custom transverse motor unit/drivetrain. I don't get why they didn't just use the existing drivetrain/tunnel.

Do you think it would be cheaper? I never did an engine rebuild. If the cyclinders are damanged that would require a reboring and lots of bullshit wouldn't it?
I think it wouldn't really fit the character of the car. It's supposed to be a light sporty car with a tiny engine that could. I like small engines. There's something about pushing a small engine to the limits that is more thrilling than having a big boy that you have to thread carefuly around all the time. Plus fuel costs. I'm in the EU country with the highest petrol prices.
Probably due to drive train losses. Also the adapters plates between the motor and the gear box often causes trouble.

Is that thing for real, lol?
Nathaniel Foster
wait.... are we talking 1960's Opel GT?
Why the FUCK would you buy it from a dealership?
Also, bloated paint means cancerous rust. And that rust goes aaaaaall the way through.
Personally, keep the stock 1.9L and put some work into it, then you'll have le Steinmetz sound of the gods. Just listen to this thing: sounds like a bunch of pissed off hornets.
What do you mean? Some guy sold it to him and he's selling it on. I'll check on the rust but it doesn't look that bad. It's like 2 inches squared at most. The rest of the car looks rust free so it probably hasn't been rusting for long.
I'll probably just disassable the engine then and see what's up with it.
Opel GT are more popular and cheaper in this corner or the world.

>a V8 wouldn't fit the character of the car It looks like a 3rd gen Vette.
Your other option is to buy a different engine and work out bolting it in. If you buy a crate (expensive in its own right) you'll have to build it yourself (or pay somebody else). If you buy used you potentially face the same issues as you are now.
Keeping the original engine will also retain more of the car's value.
Parker Miller
It's half a C3, basically. They're fucking tiny, A big ol' veeate wouldn't suit it.
Jason Ramirez
Put a C20NE in it. It will definately get that 700kg movin. And its cheap and reliable. Plus if the belt goes it, no damage :)
Evan Wood
It's very lightweight. 970kg standard curb weight. I believe it was mostly a direct competitor of the Ford Escort Mark 1
Wrong side of the atlantic
I'll just disessenle it and see what's up with it.

That's what I'm saying, it's like the C3's little brother. A V6 or i4 would suit it better, I think.
Kayden Lee
C20xe seems to be the popular choice, I have seen more with those in than the stock 1.9. Or maybe a 20seh if you want it to be indestructible too.
I owned two of them and really enjoyed them. Damn impossible to find parts. Good luck.

Can't forget the exhaust with the tractor flap straight through the hood.

Miata engine with a built bottom end and a retarded amount of boost

There's only one option: pic related, or one of it's Kappa platform siblings.

>limiting yourself
Mediocre, you should have recommended a 20v 7A-GTE
Leo Robinson
>4AGE >SR20DE >KA24E/DE >F20C
Or, if you want to stay carbureted... >4AC >22R >L28
Don't listen to the faggots saying to boost it. That doesn't belong on such a car.
Juan Sanchez
put a cheap honda in that shiet
like a F23 or an H22
Jaxson Flores
>Don't listen to faggots saying to boost it. That doesn't belong on such a car.
Fuck you pal, who are you to say what does and doesn't belong on someone else's car? He was asking for suggestions and user's were giving them, so what if they suggested boost? Just because your panties get in a wad doesn't mean OP's will
Gavin King
>carburetor >2016 Obviously you haven't seen what ethanol in todays fuel does to carburetors
James Foster
He drives miata. He literally knows nothing about cars
Colton Hill
Memes aside, I like Miatas myself and hope to have my own KMiata someday, but faggots like him do nothing but take the fun out of threads like these, tripfag or not
Jaxson Robinson
I ride two carburated motorcycles, neither of which have any problem with today's fuel.
Justin Sullivan
I don't drive a Miata, dumbshit.
>Suggesting several good engines >REEEE YOU'RE TAKING MY FUN AWAY Calm down, cuckcake
Ethan Edwards
>user asks for suggestions >tripfag pipes in IGNORE THESE PEOPLE BEECUZ MUH WAY IZ DA RITE WAY

I have seen a Porsche 356 EV conversion on youtube a few days ago.
Still mad about it

Nah you no longer drive a miata, you crashed it into a tree with backwards mounted tires instead
Liam Clark

Theyre honestly like half the size. A gnar high strung cossie in one would stomp dicks
Matthew Jones
How about you just convert the first four to carbs instead?
David Butler
That was some eurocuck. Wrong again, fucc de la boi.
Lucas Phillips
>suggestion shot down >by a tripfag >Intothetrash.jpeg
If I cared what an attention whore on a Mongolian knitting forum, then I would be as sad as you
Jordan Martin
Toyota 3S-GE Beams is another swap option
Eli Bennett
That didn't even make sense. Guess English isn't your first language, Eurocuck.
Christopher Barnes
Sorry, I speak English, not fatasses you stupid Burger
Carson Moore
Shouldn't you be in Arabic class at this time, Ahmed?
Matthew Adams
>implying I'm a shitskin
Shouldn't you be at McDonald's fatty?
Jason Cook
Saab B204/5? It's not a small/light engine by 2l I4 standards, but they can be made to go like stink and the stock 185hp a B204 puts out should already be more than adequate for a GT. And they're very reliable with well-documented electronics.
Might be a bitch to adapt to RWD though as they only ever came in FWD cars.
William Wright
w t f are you trying to say friend
Oliver Anderson
Not that guy, but: >An Opel GT is like half the size of a C3 >A rev-hungry Cosworth engine would be a great match for this car
Wasn't that hard to understand to be honest with you famiglia
Ethan Harris
surely swaps for c/z20let/h have been documented? they kinda tick all the boxes as opel, huge aftermarket, versatile (any drivetrain setup) modern and efficient and you can find loads of them on ebay
