News:
Retroarch 1.3.6 is now out, with some new cores such as ParaLLEl (an LLE N64 emulator using the vulkan API) and Mednafen-Beetle hardware mode. Neither of them work particularly well at the moment - you have been warned.
Pocketstation emulator in the works.

I've been looking for a GBA emulator on PSP that's compatible with saves/save states from VBA. (Alternately, a different PC GBA Emulator that will be able to deal with this compatibility).

Ideally I'll be able to play a .gba file on my computer, then save the data and the state and move them over to my PSP and continue playing the same game on the go.

This sentence is being added only so I don't have to wait 5 minutes before posting a duplicate reply.

What should I be using?

In how many generations do you think console systems will become unemulatable?

...

>tfw Vulkan on Dolphin any minute now

I don't think they'll ever be unemulateable, but there's definitely going to come a point in time where they won't be 100% accurate and there's nothing we can do about it.

Yeah, I can't really fathom how someone would emulate the WiiU's controller-tablet-pad or the PS4's little touch...thing.

Does it have to be VBA? Couldn't you change emulator to say mGBA through retroarch so you have the same on your PC and PSP?
Saves should be compatible cross emulators but states will not.

Same way you emulate a DS bottom screen.

>Retroarch 1.3.6 is now out, with some new cores such as ParaLLEl (an LLE N64 emulator using the vulkan API) and Mednafen-Beetle hardware mode.
ParaLLEl is already superior to GLideN64.

Please don't bring back resident N64 shitposter-kun

It's too early in the thread for it to completely derail into N64 plug-in nonsense autism

>Does it have to be VBA?
That's the only GBA emulator I know of for PC that's any good.
>mGBA through retroarch
I'll look into that later. That's all I needed, was a name and a trail to follow. Thanks!

You should be able to use mGBA through both PSP and PC using retroarch and stuff will likely be transferrable.

gen 8 emulation if it ever exists will not be normal 'emulation' but will be more like a compatibility layer

Is that from the George Lucas 40th Anniversary Remaster?

The main thing I want to do is be able to run games on my PC at ridiculous turbo speeds to make grinding or other tedious things more bearable. There's a lot of apparently good GBA-era Pokémon ROM hacks, but trying to play them on my PSP just reminds me how unbearably slow they are - especially compared to the GBC games that I emulate on it and can comfortably run at ludicrous speeds, which makes it easy to grind up levels.

I think I tried something similar with Final Fantasy V years ago and it didn't work out - I certainly remember there being some incompatibility somewhere. I tried it all years ago, though, when I was considerably less savvy than I am now.

Though if I saved normally in the game (that is, using the in-game save menus) shouldn't that write the save to the .gba file? Wouldn't I then just be able to put it on my PSP and continue that way?

I'd test this shit myself instead of just asking in the thread but I'm at work now, so I can't.

Probably.

Depends on how the game saves but it probably saves a different .sav file or something that should work on any emulator.

>it probably saves a different .sav file or something
Now that you mention it, I think that's what it was.

Sorry if I'm clogging up the thread with noob-level questions. I'm curious about this and trying to remember where things went wrong. Also rather excited to play through Pokémon Gaia but I'd rather not have to do it on my PC and the slowness of it on PSP (not that the game runs at sub-100%) both turn me off a little.

I bet MAME is going to emulate these consoles in 20 years

reddit.com/r/emulation/comments/4u7zed/parallel_sans_retroarch/
>RetroArch is a buggy, convoluted, complicated, bloated mess so hopefully someone will port the code to a standalone emulator, but the code itself is still buggy so I don't know if there's even a point to it.
lol who is this guy?

MAME already emulates a bunch of consoles righ now.

It's arguably the worst way to emulate said consoles that it supports, but still.

Don't worry about asking questions. It keeps the thread alive and is the point of the thread really.

It looks like .sav files aren't compatible with VisualBoy, which uses .sgm files.

Care to confirm?

Are you sure that sgms aren't just save states?

Not presently. I'll look into it more on my break which is in about 20 minutes.

>every other post is some anti-RA nonsense

Just another sperglord who is pissed at SP

How dare he not drink the koolaid!

Are you implying not spewing hate about RA means you are in a cult?

lol

Some of you kids really do take your SP worship a little too seriously.

>Some of you kids really do take your SP bashing a little too seriously.

FTFY

I just sit here laughing at kids getting cocks up their asses about SP or RA.

And it'll do so at 2 fps with no added features and no one will bother to use it, just like their cash registers.

So...

>Played japanese games that never came here on Snes9x/Zsnes when they were brand new emulators, was around high school by then
>Stopped playing videogames for what seemed forever due irl occupations marriage/kids/etc
>Never stopped visiting internet sites such as Veeky Forums or w/e
>Lost in new emulation decide to visit the wiki to get up to date in emulation trying to play some videogames which I never got to play
>Check out how people are praising Higan, a Super Nintendo emulator for how accurate it is to the system itself
>Google a bit more trying to decide between Catsup and Ketchup
>Check comments on the guy himself saying how Snes9x latest version had garbage sound code in his own words and he rewrote it for 1.54 which never got released
>Think, oh then it must be really good
>Decide to download his emulator, Higan
>Can't open zip files directly, have to import them all
>Some roms are faulty even though they are shown as good dumps, marks files missing or w/e
>Fullscreen is not alt enter, but f11, minor annoyance
>Can't set it to full screen stretch (read around here that it is heresy on non 4:3 displays but I don't really mind it stretching as long as there is no dead space in the monitor)
>Google how to stretch to fullscreen
>Read how the guy behind the emulator didn't like people playing in non 4:3 or 8:7 displays so he didn't include a full stretch option

What, I apologize if I'm wrong but is there a way to stretch to full screen or was I being mislead? Is there a way to access directly to zip files like all emulators do or do you forcibly have to do that retarded method of copying your entire library elsewhere with that Icarus program?

>I just love SP's cock up my ass.

FTFY

I looked into it and it turns out that the problem I had before was that my emulator uses a different directory for its .sav files, so having it in the same directory as the roms was meaning that the .sav files were getting overlooked.

Or so it seems.

I'll be able to confirm 100% when I go home in 5 hours ;_;

That's what you secretly want since you are tsundere.

Use RetroArch (it uses the same SNES core as higan, but without all the stupid shit from it):
emulation.gametechwiki.com/index.php/Dummies_Guide:_RetroArch

how accurate is picodrives 32x emulation?

Is a Wii still a viable solution for emulation of most classic platforms except obviously the PS1?

VBA saves aren't compatible with anything else because it's doing saving wrong, use mGBA if you hope for any kind of cross-compatibility.

I think I remember reading somewhere on /r/emulation that the Cottage Devs are having a little easier time emulating the 3ds because now they can use graphic APIs to emulate?

>Cottage Devs
Fucking auto-correct

*Citra devs

Any way to remove the shitton of screen tearing on Retroarch? Its irritating as fuck playing Street Fighter Alpha with a big ass line making everything flicker in and out.

It's alright but I think a PC would do you better really.

Thanks, been reading how it basically is a hassle to set it up but eventually pays off for the convenience of having everything together neatly packed.

FUCK apparently it has problems
libretro.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2875

SNES9x is fine. Byuu is just autistic. By garbage sound code he probably meant it didn't "self document" in his goofy way. It was using his sound code since 1.51 or so, which means it was accurate enough for PastHim

Well I was thinking more along the lines of consoles, not handhelds, even. Citra is still an emu but I think the standardization has helped make it easier for them.

How do I fix things like this? I tried to play the first one too, but as soon as I pressed "new game" everything slowed down to a crawl as it tried to open the load menu

Some speed tests:
>Super Mario Galaxy (Observatory):
Vulkan: 100fps
OpenGL: 80fps
Direct3D 11: 85fps
>Super Mario Galaxy 2 (Yoshi Star Galaxy):
Vulkan: 110fps
OpenGL: 100fps
Direct3D 11: 115fps
>Super Smash Bros. Melee (Hyrule Temple 1v1):
Vulkan: 260fps
OpenGL: 250fps
Direct3D 11: 325fps
>Donkey Kong Country Returns (1-3 Start):
Vulkan: 68fps
OpenGL: 68fps
Direct3D 11: 68fps
>Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life (Outside):
Vulkan: 100fps
OpenGL: 92fps
Direct3D 11: 109fps

Are you using OGL?

Some speed tests:
>Donkey Kong Country Returns (1-3 Start):
Ishiiruka: 102 fps

Why are you using regular D'ohphin again?

I can't, for some reason, it keeps saying I have I don't have the resources to run OpenGL

That's also 68fps for me (on a 750ti running at 4x resolution, 16xAF).

That probably means you don't have an Nvidia GPU

Did you try software mode of DX11?

Im running mame (the one without any year attached to it) through retroarch, but the menu font is unreadable. What gives?

Seems quite coincidental that 4 different APIs all give the same fps on DKCR

bump

...

You won't be once all updates to OGL and DX stop and they just keep telling you to buy a new GPU to use Vulkan and install that GPU even though you're too mentally ill to open your computer case without having an anxiety attack.

Nigga this is irrelevant to me. I build PCs all the time and can move from the 970 if needed. I'm excited for Vulkan since I'm on Lincuck and have no cancerous DX.

Don't try to hide your mental illness, Kuroki-san. We all know Japanese people can't build PCs.

>implying I'm a mojo shoujo

Fightcade is emulation right? I want to play KoF '98 online with not-strangers but /fgg/ is full of primitive cave people

I guess thats why people keep telling devs to code for iGPUs and shit?

Makes sense, in a weird way I suppose :)

I thought VBA-M uses deflate/zlib compression for saves. or the last time I checked. Really that should be a runtime option.

It helped a little, but now it's slow

>install fightcade
>register
>drop your roms and bios in the rom folder unzipped
neogeo.zip is the bios ko98.zip might be the rom name for the game you want to play but I'm not sure 100%, the roms from the archive.org mame set should work fine links for that are in the wiki.
>start fightcade
>login
That's it you're done, have fun.

I know how to get it to work dingus (although for some reason the client seems to think my BIOS zip is bigger than the one it's supposed to use)

but I was more asking if anybody here plays

I don't even know if that game works on OGL, but it may be one of those cases that proves PS2 emulation is awful because it doesn't work no matter what settings you use.

For Wii and PS2 games should I play in 4:3 or 16:9? still kinda confused exaclty what anamorphic widescreen does.

All wii games have widescreen support natively. For PS2, check the PCSX2 wiki for each game to see if it supports widescreen natively or not. Most games that don't have widescreen patches.

With wii games, they have widescreen support so play those in widescreen. PS2 I doubt much has WS support but there are patches. I just prefer to go good ol 4:3 like the DEVELOPERS INTENDED though because I'm scared some weird glitches might be introduced with the patches.

Where can I get a stable build of Reicast? The download page always tells me "Service temporaly unavaiable".

Also, why is the Start Button not working in DEmul?

And another question, is there a way to change the Z-mode in Retroarch Reicast core like in NullDC?

I just want to play Tokyo Xtreme Racer 1-2 ffs.

It's kinda sad that so many emu scenes are just ramshackle solutions held together by duct tape and old distros, not even existent websites, etc.

Hey guys I'm using dolphin and a 360 controller to play timesplitters.

But aiming is EXTREMLY sloppy. It's VERY difficult to aim with these controls for some reason. It jerks around a lot.

Does anyone know how to fix this? Also for some reason it wont let me use a mouse to aim so a keyboard and mouse is out of the question.

>I guess thats why people keep telling devs to code for iGPUs and shit?
Sadly, most people don't seem to care about IGPs. Many will even blame the user for not having "proper hardware", instead of blaming the program which is actually at fault..

Nobody does dreamcast emulation?

It's a bug in the latest version.

BlastEm aims to support it eventually. Might be a few years down the road, though.

These chinese builds run pretty great.

So SP now posts on reddit again. I'm pleasantly surprised he hasn't been downvoted to oblivion.

I think he's right when it comes to end users nitpicking and whining.

Guys

Is angrylion on frankenmupen broken? It crashes when anything 3D is going to come on screen, which means most games crash either instantly or after the splash screen. Yes I'm using cxd4 RSP and set screen res to 640x480.

Are you using a bleeding edge build or something older?

Fresh from the buildbot, but I remember this stuff happening to me months ago, I just decided not to look into it at the time.

Is it just back luck or does the windows cd emu not work for gc roms? Used 2 gamecube isos as test. Has worked for PC stuff.

What game(s) did you test?

>reddit
>SP
Who gives a shit?

Why are you trying to mount GC isos?

>does the windows cd emu not work for gc roms?
Nope.

OoT - Crashes instantly
Banjo-Kazooie - Crashes instantly
Paper Mario - Shows a couple of splashes then crashes
San Francisco Rush - Gets to the initial splash screen then crashes

SP recently accepted some PRs from LegendOfDragoon. Maybe that broke it? Or it could have been before that, dunno. Try grabbing a build from yesterday or the day before from the buildbot. I recall it was working fine at least then.

i can fly; i'm a pilot.

Which would mean an additional investment, since testing IGPs with OGL is not trivial. Its not like D3D10 where you can change rendering adapters at will.

No can do, buildbot only keeps the latest compiled versions of cores nowadays. And I'm almost sure it did this to me last time I tried which was a while ago. Just tried redownloading the redists but no luck.

Actually, scratch that. I built it myself from source, and I'm having no problems. Tried the build from the updater, and it crashed on me. So it looks like the buildbot is borked for Angrylion.

Oh well. Hopefully it gets un-borked someday.

People paid Gontez 10 grand and the guy did 0 investing..

I get what you're saying though. I still think some effort should be spent trying to accommodate others.

I uploaded it here if you wanna try it:

expirebox.com/download/6adb8846aa332cda872a549a33476b60.html

This is my first time trying this temporary upload service, so I dunno how well it works. Try at your own risk.

Newfag here, Which website is the best place to download ROMS? I don't want to download anything that has malware and shit.

Read the sticky and check the wiki.
