Just started Generations after pirating it.
Tamamitsune is literally the only thing it has going for it. Will this live up to what 4U was or should I wait for 5G?

Do enough SP to get a decent set then spam online until you get to HR. It unlocks the trade carts and a bunch of other handy shit.

Good for gathering, apparently good for hunting if you have a perfect fighting cat.

Is there a general consensus on best Gunlances so far? I usually just grab the highest element/raw mix of each element, alongside whatever has Lv5 shells, but it seems way harder to pick out the good ones this time.

Play story mode at least up until the intro quests for the 4 flagship monsters, IMO. You can go whenever you want though.

They can be good in hunting quests later on, but their main use is for gathering. They don't use stamina, don't need pickaxes and bug nets, etc.

Wait for 5G. It's a pretty trash game and most of the styles that are just for this game only will fuck up your skill/playstyle for monster hunter.

I've seen several people say gunlances aren't nearly as good in this game.

I haven't used them much in gen, so i can't say for sure how they are, though.

I think it'd be a lot more enjoyable if hunting styles just added to a play style, rather than taking some things away and adding others.

Removing moves mostly just fucks with someone's playstyle and makes them choose one style for each weapon.

I've been really enjoying aerial gunlance for that reason. Hopping off an enemy allows for a bunch of i-frames as well as a full burst on landing. I don't really care about Gunlance being suboptimal though, as long as I have fun with it. I did not like adept with it, it was way too hard to aim with the counterattack and just didn't seem all that useful.

Besides, if I really care about being optimal I'll just bust out an HBG or something.

Don't go too crazy with skills, the game has checks that will unequip all your skills when you enter a hunt if the cat has an impossible skillset.

Never used evasion+. But they still are 0.33 and 0.4secs.

Just go do the hunting hall quest for 50 vespoids, and kill 20 hornetaurs along the way. More than you'll need for a while if you poison them with smoke bombs and a bowgun with poison shots, for carves.

Evade 2 is just pointless because it only gives you two more frames of inv. than Evade 1 does, so it's better not to waste the skill points on it. Evade 3 was once worth it, but honestly evade 1 is all you need if you really want an evade skill.

Does it stack with adept innate +3?

It's from bugs. Get a bowgun that fires poison shots and shoot them. The torch is gone so poison smoke bombs are less effective, but it's another option if you're patient.
