>"The last time pop-up headlamps appeared on a volume-production car was in 2004 when both the Lotus Esprit and C5 Corvette ended production."

II think it was the C5 Corvette.

E S P R I T

and c5

Lotus Esprit and Corvette
The esprit is also the nicest looking car with pop-ups ever.

>not the FD RX-7
I think you got something mixed up there friendo

Y'know I was gonna say C5, but I took a second to look it up and that might not be correct. c5's went out of production in 2004, and the NSX went out of production in 2005.

So, maybe?

The 2 last production cars to have popups were the 2004 Chevrolet C5 Corvette and the 2004 Lotus Esprit.

The FD RX-7 was killed in 2002, so yea. It was the Esprit and Corvette

scratch that, C5.
2002 facelift on NSX replaced the pop-ups.

He was saying the FD3S is the best looking car with popups

If you want to split hairs, the Esprit ended production February 2004, and the C5 ended production July 2004.

c5registry.com/membersonly/Production/2004/index.htm

So the C5 would be the very last, by 5 months.

Is there a particular reason why we haven't had any cars in the past ten years with them? Style, safety, etc?

Increases drag reducing muh mpg. More breakable parts increasing overall cost. People hate nice things. Etc

Mostly because of pedestrian safety. Getting run over is a lot nicer if you don't get stuck behind some popup headlights.

You better fucking believe murrica held on to them sexy fuckers the longest. While we're on the subject the c5 was the sveltest sleekest vette ever produced. Looks like an rx7 with some extra T E S T added

2004 Corvette C5 and 2004 Lotus Esprit

supposedly some of those C5's have automatic headlights, can you imagine this retrofuture shit, the lights popping on their own?

Laws changed to allow headlights of more sizes and shape, and of plastic.

It ended the need to hide the ungainly sized lamps when not in use.

Europes laws for pedestrian safety makes it ludicrously expensive to develop a car with conforming popups these days.

and in the cost and weight of individual covers, motors along with the normal headlight then look at a pop up headlight as a bean counter looking to save a couple bucks on each car and as an engineer looking to shed every ounce of weight they can

rip

they also weigh allot and take up space in the wheel arch

they could be used to get around minimum lamp hight laws while still having a low front
but then having a low front got b& and low angle beam projectors became cheep

I hate europe so fucking much
I'm dutch

This thread is so depressing.

All I want are pop-ups, please. And they're never coming back.

Non pop-up hidden headlights are cool too

damn, son

>born too early to explore the galaxy
>born too late to buy a new car with pop-ups

even though it wasn't really

>there are people on Veeky Forums that believe this

At least it was good looking. Holy fuck what is even going on with that Civic.

a ford model t is also slower than most cars
easy to drive at lest
but I like c4 better
projection
what are you a calculator

>born just in time to buy a pop up light car with invincible nip i4 for 5k

...

proof that these are manufactured and never legitimate

Everyone who thinks they are cool never had a car that had them in the Great Lakes states.

Can any of you remember leaving them permanently in the up position from December through March to deal with the icing ?

kill yourself fucking retard

>tfw mine is RUINED by the fixed c5r lights

okay that's the second best

...

How hard would it be to modify a shitbox to have them? It doesn't seem like it would be terribly hard to be honest.

Lol. Looks stupid

Change them

>

Them CCWs tho

at least I like it with the lights up, 3 winters now and no problems here

that and the rear offset.......

Technically the Cizeta-Moroder V16T is still in production, and has amazing popups.

Last mass produced car was the 2004 C5 Vette

your car was RUINED by you, you fucking dipshit

>still in production

Wat.

I feel like the c5 has aged better than the esprit

I assume "still in production" means "give us enough money and we'll make you one?"

I've actually seen a Cizeta in person, by the way. It didn't sound as cool as I hoped it would.

jesus christ lel

>c5
>sleekest vette ever produced

stuck in the 90s forever
cizetausa.com/cizeta/main.asp.htm

"The V16T is illegal to drive or to even own in the United States because it does not meet emissions and safety standards. One was seized by United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement on December 7, 2009."

>I feel like the c5 has aged better than the esprit

That's 'cause the Esprit has had the same basic design since the '70s. It's last design refresh was 1993 which itself was just a latest in a long line of facelifts of Giugiaro's original design.

The C5 debuted for the 1997 MY with ditinctly different styling from the C4.

What the fuck

Black it out, darken the headlights. Also those wheels are terrible.

why dont they shut it down goym

Wow, vette is so pigfat
