Cars you like that no one else seems to like, or even give two shits about.
Guilty Pleasures
There was a similar thread some time ago but I guess I'll post my guilty pleasure again
>3rd gen Ford Taurus
I know nothing about these and have never seen one because they weren't sold over here but for some reason I really like how it looks.
...
>overwhelminglyshitcar.jpg
Underrated forgotten classic
...
I thought these were fairly popular, even with Veeky Forumstists?
Anyway. Here's mine. I think it's a BRILLIANT car from an engineering standpoint. It does a rather complicated task (altering between using gasoline to power the car, electricity to power the car, both at the same time or kinetic energy to recharge the battery) and it does it all so extremely seamlessly and in is so easy to drive and gets such great mileage and is sold at such a low price, considering the tech.
I don't get why car guys hate this so much more than other from-A-to-B-shitboxes. I've also never met anyone driving one that thinks they are saving the planet or some shit. Most of them just like saving money on fuel.
The pre-facelift Genesis Coupes look nicer than the post-facelift ones to me, but they do suffer from pretty bad build quality issues.
All the reasons why car enthusiasts hate the Prius (atleast that I've seen)
>FF
>CVT
>materials needed for the batteries hurt the enviroment really badly
>X has better fuel economy than the Prius eventhough it's a normal engine (see muh TopGear test)
>Prius drivers are eco/vegan/hipster/hippie cucks
>Prius drivers can't drive
make of that list whatever you will
...
>bad build quality issues.
Only the 2.0 version because Hyundai didn't handle the turbo install well.
I disagree though, post-facelift is far superior in looks.
In any case is a generally awesome car and shouldn't be considered a guilty pleasure.
Think it looks kinda aesthetic
Especially the rear
>saving money on fuel
Yeah, what a great idea. Paying $6k more for a hybrid over a regular gasoline/diesel econobox, just to save $30 a month on gas
Yea they aren't that bad
I can't the 2 door version
it looks terrible
The real way to save money is to buy a used diesel shitbox from the late 80s, take out the back seats and enjoy 60+mpg
The convertibles looks like shit. I know a guy that has a £6000 Irmscher tuned convertible, makes 320hp (I've seen the printouts) and it's still awful in nearly every way
I like vans. Just generic passenger vans.
They're really big, actually comfy, and classy. Plus, in my experience, they drive the best.
I wish they would make a comeback.
Renault still does passenger vans, sorta. The Espace is a legendary people carrier.
this thing and the Dodge Rampage
I know they're slow as fuck with gutless engines, but god damn they look amazing
JUST
>FF
not really uncommon, would you say?
And to 95% of buyers, they really don't care.
>CVT
not really uncommon either, and to 95% of buyers, it's a non issue. Some even prefer it because it's smoother and they drive like a civilized person who doesn't need to get the MAX POWER out of his car at any given moment.
>Batteries hurt the environment really badly
Source other than the debunked CNW-research thing from ages ago?
>X has better fuel economy (top gear)
Prius at full tilt uses more fuel than M3 troddling along behind it.
>Drivers are eco/vegan/hipster/hippie cucks
This seems more of a meme than anything. Might have been partially true in the early '00s, but this car's popularity mostly comes from it being incredibly easy to drive, surprisingly spacious while maintaining low fuel consumption.
>Prius drivers can't drive
Most people who aren't into cars can't drive for shit.
See, this just isn't true if you compare it to a car the same size and use normal day-to-day driving as your test cycle and not road-trips at near constant and mpg-ideal speeds for hours on end. Most of those econoboxes can't even closely match the Prius' numbers in city or small-town driving (which is where most people drive most of the time).
I love old ones with the incredible powerhouses and big, casual styling. Newer vans are basically just crossovers and they look and drive like garbage
...
Fuck you, I like the Puma.
I can not unsee the Tigra every time someone posts one of those.
Incidentally, the Tigra is probably the single most riced vehicle where I live.
These things give me a weird boner. I'd love to go camping in the middle of nowhere in one.
And I'm not even from a 3rd world country
...
Pumas are nice. Among the very best of Euro Fords. For some odd reason I also like this and the latest C5.
All 1.4 Tigras should be 1.7 Isuzu-swapped.
Lots of people like the Puma, though. The mk3 Fiesta was a great little car. Lightweight, good suspension and chassis.
The Puma is just the Fiesta chassis with a bigger engine and a new body on top.
If I fit in it, I'd totally buy one just as a weekend fun car. But the mk3 Fiesta gave me pain in pretty much every major joint because it was too fucking small.
>Rampage
>Pic is of a Charger
I think you got confused there user.
i said "this thing AND the rampage," you silly goose
If anyone liked the Puma, the average price for a fair one with MOT wouldn't be £500.
GOAT
really REALLY wished they could have brought these to america
>why do car guys hate this vehicle
becuase it's slow, and the driver usually holds up traffic. I've witnessed prius drivers cut off people in the left lane plenty of times. It wouldn't be so bad if they could actually go 60mph
I think this is more selection bias than the truth. Prius's have sold so much that they can reasonably represent average drivers, who are inconsiderate selfish retards
>I think it's more selection bias
That's part of it, I'll admit, but still those things are extremely slow. So when they act like the average driver, they hold up traffic
V8 Taurus?
wut?
>transverse
Fucking disgusting.
I own one, its ok, the red paint is really faded even compared to other, older cars for some reason. It has aged a lot better than the Focus though.
Most late-90s Opels should. Most Ecotecs were turds.
i seen one in vancouver bc a few times. They're quite eye catching.
>fwd
>v8
Delicas are sick as fuck. slept in a friends for a few nights once. Might be one of the coziest off roading vehicles ever made. Only downside is that they have a high center of gravity which makes them easy to tip.
I had an sx2.0 for awhile and I loved that little thing. It was pretty quick, had great fuel economy, was easy to work on and was fairly cheap. I'd definetly consider an srt/4 in the future even if it was built during one of Chryslers worst periods.
Toyota Avalon. That car rides so silky smooth.
7th gen Corolla...?
Anybody...?
I know you all have the webu boner for the 86, but the mid 90s wasn't all awful. I have caught a couple out of the corner of my eye that looked good. Sure its kinda shapeless and nothing special under the hood, but there is something there.
The High performance 1996-1999 Taurus SHO came with a Yamaha-built 3.4L DOHC 24 valve V8 inspired by the new Duratec V6's of the time. The SHO V8's became famous for a problem where the camshafts would come apart from the cam gears and rekt the engine. The recall procedure included welding the cam gears onto the cams to prevent it from happening again.
>24 valve
32 valve. Brain fart
...
lol most boring cars imaginable
scuzi?
I love that Sera.
Same for Corolla, just a friendly looking, plain car. :)
mate you can find me a race prepped sentra or an elantra too that doesn't mean boring reliable dogshit
So far everyone here is a dagger exempt van guy.
>black Saab with black wheels
Basic bro spotted
>extremely slow
u wot m8
They have perfectly reasonable acceleration (some 10 seconds to 60, at least for the Mk2) compared to most other simple econobox cars. My parents have one and it really isn't bad.
My cousin has one of these, it's noisy, the gearbox is crap and the car itself uses some kia level materials for the interior. With that said, it's very good for fuel efficiency and it's lightweight also.
The fact that they made a sport version is really confusing though, it seems like they tried to make a "hot hatch" version but completely ignored the fact that it's exactly the opposite of what this car is.
That's a Carina, not a Corolla. Lern2Car
Amerilard here. We never got the Carina. What's the difference between a Carina and a Corolla?
If we look at the 90s, which the red one earlier was from, the Carina was larger. It ran for three generations in Europe before being succeeded by the Avensis.
It could be had as a sedan, liftback (sedan with hatch-rear-end-thing) and full wagon.
The Corolla could be had as a small hatchback (like your pic), five door hatchback or small wagon.
See, in America, we had the Corolla as a sedan or wagon (wagon was discontinued after 1997 due to poor sales and became sedan only). They're the same underneath as your Corolla hatchbacks.
Instead of the Carina, we had the dreaded Toyota Camry. It was available as a coupe, sedan or wagon. The wagon was killed off around the same time as the Corolla wagon, and the coupe eventually got completely different styling and was renamed the Camry Solara. Engines were either a petrol 4 banger or a petrol V6. Last year for the Camry Solara before it was kill was 2008.

en.wikipedia.org
They still make the Camry. Here's the new one.
en.wikipedia.org
The Camry has been universally panned as one of the most boring cars ever built.
Honda Concerto.
And the MX-6
Lol, we had the Camry too :P
We have Camries in Europe too, but they are even bigger than the Carina.
Dude, and the MX-3!
Front mouted V6 with a displacement of only 1.8 liters!
>I have no face and I must scream
I didnt know Honda also made Corollas.
Yeah, it seems like a fun little car, but I'm not a fan of the looks 2bh
So isn't the Carina just a slightly larger Corolla?
On a related note, the closest thing we got to the Avensis (which you say replaced the Carina) is the Scion tC coupe which has the Avensis' chassis.
Heh, I think it's only for the European market.
and the second generation tC. It's being killed off along with the entire Scion brand after 2016.
This landbarge.
The closest thing you have to the Avensis is DEFINITELY not the tC. Avensis is a rather large car and was never available as a two-door or marketed to be any kind of sporty.
>Avensis is a rather large car
The tC has always been the size of a Corolla.
Normies usually say the tC is nothing but a Corolla coupe. But the tC used the Avensis chassis and the Camry's engine.
According to Toyota, the tC was the Celica's direct replacement.
Actually, there was a turbo 4x4 version of the Caldina, which essentially is the Avensis. It had 260 horsepower.
Ah, true that! With the Celica GT-Four running gear! But it was only available in Asia :P
They're OLD, and are getting to the stage where they take loads of work to keep running.
>Implying the chassis basis matters at all in this circumstance. The cars are wildly different in terms of both size, use and appearance.
The tC had TRD part available at dealerships and has a large thriving aftermarket tuning scene, like this RWD conversion for Scion's drifting program.
The rear makes me all tingly.
Yet you post the front?
Had a spastic moment, sorry M9
Damn you beat me to it. They're dirt cheap in my area (most go for under $1200) and I've considered checking one out, but I really don't need a 2nd car and my friends and family think it's the ugliest car of all time.
I love the design for some reason. I really don't know why.
I was thinking of buying one, they are extremely cheap, but they all need apex seals and that shit aint cheap. Except for the reliability, which is owner's fault most of the time and the triangle shapes overload, I think they are fucking great. I really like the coupe though, why didn't they make AWD versions of the calibra and the coupe is beyond me, their DTM cars were AWD and they screamed to over 10 k RPm. Stupid GM.
I REALLY want the sedan version in Bordeaux with the 3.2 V6 and the AWD system.
hey, i drive the exact same puma has in your pic. they're bloody great.
handling is behiond belief (for an ff) and decent power (1.7)
>what is depreciation and bottom vallue
A Fiesta is a very simple car. Other than tinworm, they have no real major work that will need doing at this sort of age. Timing belt, maybe? They're worth nothing because they're dated, slow and hated.
>some of the best handling in the ff department
>1.7 FRP came stock with 170bhp (100 hp/l)
>NA
>reliable
>great stock exhaust note
>serious, barebones drivers car
>lot's of mechanical parts available (fiesta mk3)
>great styling
>easy to mod and upgrade (parts from fiestas/cosworth/mondeo should fit)
>cheap
what's there not to love?
>slow
how the fuck can a 2200 lbs car doing between 125 and 170 bhp be slow? not to mention the great handling.
they might not be pushing 200+ bhp, but for sub 2k $, what were you expecting?
What determines value, sage user? What someone is willing to pay for it. No one wants a dressed up car that's as slow as a Puma with a bodystyle writing infantile checks it's engine can't cash
I'm trying to explain why they're so cheap, and it is partly because they're slow. Sorry, benchracer, but I've driven them and they're a Fiesta. They're slow!
>calling me a benchracer
let me guess, you drove the shitty 1.4 for 5 minutes and now declare yourself a race master?
No fucking torque. Get the fuck out bench boi.
>No one wants a dressed up car that's as slow as a Puma with a bodystyle writing infantile checks it's engine can't cash
it's putting out the same power output has an NA miata, yet the former is praised like it's worth gold.
it weighs the same aswell.
>why is the price so low
because it's fucking old.
try to find a 1.7 puma (or a FRP, if you want a bigger challenge) sub 3k. there are none in my area, and i doubt there's any in yours.
Funny guy. Sorry that your car is slow. At least girls like it, r-r-right, A-user? What do you tell people when they ask why your car is worth less than its tyres?
>no fucking torque
neither does the miata, the S2000, pretty much any four cilinder without a turbocharger.
>Sorry that your car is slow.
i don't drive a puma. i used too. and it was faster than my current car.
partly meant for
Miata is balanced and FR mate and no one would ever say they're not slow.
