I didn't express myself clearly; I'm all set on what weapon type to use. I'm maining Charge Blade in this game and having a blast.

My question is rather what weapon (within a weapon type) to use and upgrade. Do you plan ahead and use unfisnished versions of the weapon you want to have in the long run, or do you stick to what you have and worry about better weapons later?

I look at the final weapons in ping's dex, check out which one I think looks great and is usable and then work towards it.

What are the skills needed for elemental lbg? (element)+2 and what are the others? also, should i find all elemental +12 OOO charms?

The less you plan ahead the more fun you will have.
I miss the times back when i just wing'd it and went with whatever i had and upgraded it, and crafted what i thought was nice

But since 3U i always look at Ping's Dex etc. at the final form of each weapon to find out which ones are the best, because otherwise crafting them is a waste of time. It hurts. And i lack the willpower to go back to the fun style of experiencing the game where i'd just upgrade and not know where I'd end up eventually.

adept is still the way to go

the run after the dodge is too good to get distance, not to mention the damage boost from the ammo charge

also for the low investment of at least one trap per hunt, you'll always get a chance to go siege and lay down the damage

So i'm progressing up to high rank with some buddies who also got the game. I'm at 3* ones in the main game, and we've done a handful of baby shit online so far.

One of the problems we're having I think is looking for decent stuff that will be useful through Low rank until we can actually get to high rank. As such I'm wondering what are some recommended weapons for us?

Two of them use great swords (they currently have the ...uh Pincher thing from hermitaur) and i'm a lbg using the maccao gun until rath shows up.

Is there something else we should work towards or are those gonna be fine?

What would the perfect trapper/assist palico look like, skills wise?

bowguns can crit, yes.
elemental shots can crit, but the crit will only affect the minuscule amount of raw damage that element shots do, unless you have the elemental crit skill.

If it's just Pierce S+ and not Pierce Up, I doubt you'd want to invest in it. The former just increases magazine size.

But yeah, high affinity bowguns are pretty great. Try Shagaru's HBG, good all-purpose raw siege gun.
