It seems that it has to be a pretty significant amount of time or else it won't work, unless I'm doing it wrong.

It isn't that long, like a half second of charging, and as a bonus you can actually hold down back while doing other moves. Parasoul can hold down back as she's doing the two hits of her sHP, and then tap forward + LP to fire a Napalm Shot and it'll confirm. You can do the same thing with holding down Crouch during sHP and tapping up + HK for Napalm Pillar > Silent Scope
Cerebella can use charged Tumbling Run commands for many combos. Runstops allow you to stuff another chain into a combo like Squigly's stance canceling. If you're midscreen, you can do cLK > cMP > sHP > Kanchou and it'll connect. You can hold down back while you hit sHP and perform Pummel Horse immediately after. Watch the inputs at the left side to get the gist of it. You don't have to know how to do this kind of stuff right now but just to get an idea for the timing.

Wrong again I'm now 100% certain it's 35F after testing it myself. Never trust things online.
What's interesting is that the first frame you input back doesn't count towards the charge. So you have to actually hold backwards for 36F before doing the other direction + button.

So in the tutorial it mentions that for Parasoul's firing squad blockbuster she can use Egret Call, which requires it to be held backwards, and keep moving around while they fire. Can I just hold back during the intro animation for the blockbuster and then activate it as soon as the actual attack starts?

Yes, but it's not a good idea. You can counter super Parasoul's level 3 with your own super, and if she cancels immediately without thinking it ends the invincibility as soon as she cancels.
Wait to see if the opponent is blocking or using a reversal before you cancel.

nice job user! yeah, like others said, do the other tuts just to get a feel for the other moves.
I also recommend going back and doing some of the tuts you had the most trouble with again, until they feel more natural, especially the ones about defensive maneuvers. that should help warm you up to the kind of grinding you'll need to do with your chosen characters in practice mode.
really the tuts should start to feel pretty easy for you by the time you're ready to rock n roll.
