Changing to my summer ride soon. The stanceshit golfs and riced civics have crawled out of their hibernation holes due to the warm summer days.
So has my GTC LeBaron and she's hungry for some rice.

Colorado, calling any other truck "faggy".

Since last week, '99 Pontiac Bonneville.

Is it a daily if its your only vehicle?

Still shiny with a light patina I see, my friend

Used one quite a lot the summer of '14 at my job... god they are terrible daily drivers

Black car, black wheels, black dog
What is the noise like in one of those Lexuses?

>tfw can't legalise 17'' wheels
Life is pain here.

>he actually debadged it
that absolute madman
why is it illegal? is it even not possible with letting the TÜV or something look at it?
>mfw brasil friends actually put 21" or more on Puntos
it looks so damn ridiculous

vroom vroom

88 Ford Thunderbird Turbocoupe

>>he actually debadged it
Yeah. That spongy glue was an absolute bitch to scrape off so I used some tar remover. Then some polish and wax.

>why is it illegal? is it even not possible with letting the TÜV or something look at it?
I contacted a firm that specialises in legalising shit with our mobility and transportation institute. They said the only measurement possible for my car's version above what I have (185/65 R15) is 195/55 R16, which is already mentioned in the registration as a special annotation.
Upside is I wouldn't need to do anything else if I wanted to put some 16'' wheels on it, downside is it's not really worth it upgrading from 15'' to 16''...

It's fucking retarded. Even with 205/45 R17 the rolling diameter would be identical. I don't get it.

Unsprung weight, braking mass and more of a propensity to hydroplaning with a wider tire.

Sure, but there are versions of my car with stock 17'' wheels.
The Grande Punto 1.9 multijet/1.4 T-jet sporting comes to mind.

yeah 15 can look okay anyways, if you put up some nice wheels it could look better than 16" anyways.

I could put some 16'' in it. It's legal to do so. But is it really worth spending so much money in wheels/tyres for a mere 2,5cm difference? Eh.

feels bad man.
I thought about getting new wheels for mine but putting 1 grand into a car that's worth maybe 700 euros isn't the smartest thing to do, right?
depends if you find some lightweight and good looking wheels or need new tires anyways, then you could go for 16" and keep the current rims for winter
>winter in Portugal
:^)

1987 but still so new

Your Punto is worth 700? Not where I live. It's worth at least 1500.

I'm not needing new tyres yet, there's still good tread on them but they're kinda shitty (Contiecocontact 3)

As for the winter... kek
I'd probably sell the current ones.

yeah it has 160k km on it, bought it for 2.2k and recently looked, price is about 1k now
I need new ones, currently I am on 10 year old summer tires, shit was weird in the winter
they're starting to Crack now lel

Worked on her all day. Paint is still shit, but at least it shines now. Fuck-ugly ricer wing is off too.

Jesus throw that out. Poor piece of shit. Dude, seriously, I am not kidding that thing belongs in a crusher.

And I thought my slightly beat up 2001 regular cab ranger was shitty... good lord...

should i pull the trigger?

Yes, then be wholly disappointed. It will be great!

> russia
>matte black old as fuck BMW

so fucking fitting lel

ikr lol
But as it is first car mainly for fun and small commute, I'm perfectly ok with it. Hope nothing major breaks again, and then I'll be able to reestore it to a better condition.

why? is it not at least a very overpriced dd?

97 5 speed Exploder.

>breaks AGAIN
what did break? and how many km does it have? enjoy it m8

lifted mom wagon, b-but muh manual, doesn't change a thing.

It is certainly a thing.

Certainly a vehicle that may move when you want it to. Or not.

fucking this

It's just a daily beater to me so I don't really care.

are they actually that bad/unreliable?

Only the parts that make it move.

Have already changed MAF and fuel pump, suspension requires some work and interior is falling apart.
It has about 400-500k, I just hope engine will not die on me, I don't even hoon it due to respect of car's age.
Cheers

I was just roasting you a bit for feeling like you had to mention it was a m/t and putting work into an exploder. Ranger wheels and spacers or?

2nd gen explores are not "mom wagons" lol these were the last "good" explorers built to last.

3rd gen and up are "mom wagons" thats when they started directly pandering to soccer moms.

Also, 5 speeds are trash both the manual and auto. The 4 Speed auto with the 5.0 was and is the only reliable combo.

Just mentioned it because it's not too common to find actually on an Explorer. I haven't put a dime into this thing aside from oil change/inspection, I bought it as is. The wheels look like regular XLT alloys that are painted black. Not sure what method was used to lift it, I haven't cared enough to check. It just works and that's why I bought it.

The auto they used with the 5.0 is nothing to write home about, it's just slightly less trash than what they used with the 4.0. The 5 speed manual is definitely better in terms of reliability and cost to own.

>The 5 speed manual is definitely better in terms of reliability and cost to own.

Absolutely not, it is WELL known in the explorer community that the manual is mediocre at best and not preferably. Same for the 5 speed auto.

The 4R70W in the 5.0 models is considered heavy duty as compared to the others. Mines got over 300K miles on it and has zero issues. Just pulled two cars out of a ditch in the last month.

The 4R70W is just okay, that's it. It's a 90's slushbox auto, don't act like it's anything more than alright. The 5 speed auto is terrible. The 5 speed manual is pretty great, it's not a heavy duty trans and won't stand up to a moronic driver who beats on it, but it will last forever if driven normally and gets the best MPG.

>and gets the best MPG.

Sorry but thats irrelevant to the 5.0 since it was never offered with the 5 speed. I needed the beefier trans for the torque.

And I dont think the manual ever get better MPG's than the auto 5 speed. The are the same save for a 1 MPG difference in city according to EPA estimates.

The 4R70W was built on the AODE which was built on the AOD so no, its not a "90s slushbox" but rather represents the best 4 speed Ford ever offered alone with their best V8, the 5.0.

Thats why the 4 speed/5.0 is considered the best among the 2nd gens.

'90 Volvo 240 wagon. About to roll 260k miles, been DDing since 181k miles almost 4 years ago with only very minor issues (mostly when I first bought it for $500).

The 4.0 SOHC and 5 speed manual is known as the most unreliable combo as well.

>Muh timing chain cassettes (this repair will total most trucks)

user if you like your 90s slushbox auto that's fine, but don't claim it to not be a 90s slushbox.

The 4.0 SOHC is known to have issues regardless of what trans is behind it. The 4.0 OHV is much more reliable.

>user if you like your 90s slushbox auto that's fine

Hey I like any trans or engine that still pulls hard at 301K miles.

dodge caravans and mecury sable wagons were built to last too, doesn't change anything. The Explorer has always pandered to the suburban family unit. Suv's weren't quite crossovers yet but they had gone soft

Yeah I'd agree that's very respectable, I think in general the first and second gen Explorers are pretty well made and can last a very long time with basic maintenance.

90's SUVs were not the same as what we have today. They were actually supposed to be rugged and fun while being more practical than a pickup truck. Today they are just family movers. Wagons and minivans are not comparable to older SUVs. The Explorer didn't really fall victim to becoming family friendly until the third gen.

>but they had gone soft

Muh AWD 5.0 wants to talk to you lol

Handles just like a truck(and it aint comfy), theres a reason literally every local government had a stable of them.

awd 5.0 is the softest of the 2nd gens, no low range and a weak ptu that will overheat with any moderate off pavement use. The government also had fleets of chevy luminas. The government just specs a vehicle configuration and buys from the lowest bidder.

your suv has a large S and a little u.

AWD is kinda soft compared to real 4WD...

I switch between my xj and civic coupe

...

You do know that not every SUV was meant for intense off road use right? I never once said it was extremely capable off road and I can guarantee you it'll fair far better than 90% of whats driving around now.

That being said, its full time AWD with an LSD rear. quite capable to get out of pretty much any situation you find yourself in.

If you want to go off road, do it right and get something with 4x4 (low and high ranges) + locking diffs. This isnt that, but its capable enough to get the job done and not get stuck doing it.

Its AWD + rear LSD. Like I said, this model was not meant to serious off road use. Rather, it wont get stuck in snow, mud... etc...

the driver rise weather stripping produces some wind noise at high speeds (80+) but otherwise it is extremely quiet. Not really sure what to compare it to? About on par with a new GTI based on my experience if I remember my test drive correctly. You can have a conversation at ~100 mph without raising your voice

My daily beater.

Both of these are my dailies.
I swap between them depending on where I'm going/what I'm doing.

Mine. Just pulled the carb this morning to replace a leaking power valve.

Nice louvers, I want louvers ;_;

1986 BMW E30 325e

>You do know that not every SUV was meant for intense off road use right
Yes, those are called mom wagons

The 5 spd manual in the explorers is the same as the rangers and is known for being pretty reliable, I have hauled alot with my rangers 5 speed. The explorer is much heavier though i feel

That said I have the best combo with a 5.0L v8 in a ranger with a larger HD F150 trans/ Tcase combo.

I even have the dream catcher hanging from the mirror to really sell that 60 year old grandma car feel.

I can even get it bouncing around from the 15 inch kicker in the back.

it's comfy to drive until you turn the music off and hear 20 various pieces of trim rattling and squeaking

>tfw no one to share my enthusiasm for irony and shitboxes with

>that external radiator
