roa, lich bane, abyssal, zhonyas, protobelt. he's more like an ap bruiser, if you go in without some tankiness you just get blown up. too much of his damage is backloaded onto his ult and 3rd hit to reliably 'assassinate' anyone without being ridiculously fed.

playing against him is all about playing around his cooldowns. if you force him to dodge a skillshot with his dash, he doesn't have any engage for the next few seconds. if you shove him in he has to q to clear wave, so he has no immediate slow. don't fight him on the spot for more than 3 seconds or you're dead. when you hear him cast bubble, run backwards and to the left/ right, because he's probably put it far back behind you and if you run straight you're getting stunned.

good counters for ekko are anyone with lots of cc, or very strong poke to whittle him down.

his roams are super strong, so if you see him missing always ping

since high elo games are usually finished quick and you're likely to end the game with 2 items when losing i dont think your item choice will make much of a difference
