/midships/ thread

Which MR2 turbo would you buy? Similar price range, I have the money and will make a decision soon.

Also general shit talk about mid-engine cars is appreciated. I've owned and driven 2nd and 3rd gen MR2 N/A.

I own and drive a Fiero Formula.

Just off the top of my head:
- loud rattle from passenger sfront speaker
- incessant creaking behind driver seat area
- rushing "rustling" sound on acceleration
- clicky tapping sound when accelerating
- chirpy squeaking from passenger rear suspension/shock
- groaning front brakes
- hollow echoey sound from belts when running at high-RPMs
- whole spaceframe creaks from going over big bumps
- engine knocks around during fast movements - bad mounts

I'm thinking that KYB shocks wasn't the greatest idea. Where to begin?

don't get one they're shit, really dangerous shitty handling, just a shit car in general.

This guy again.
What's your deal?

I really considered a Fiero but the interior is terrible and you have to swap the engine to get any performance whatsoever out of it

If in USA, buy a 91-92 and modify it for everything the later years have, so you have the best of both worlds (nimbler handling and late year goodies)

is the 93+ really that different in handling?

What would /midships/ recommend for my first MR car:
>Pontiac Fiero '88 or any other year with an '88 subframe
Or
>Toyota MR-2 AW11

AW11

Why? I'd like to hear your reasons

lighter, faster, more reliabru per dollar

I keep hearing the MR-2 isn't easy to work on, is that true?

yes

yeah the engine is in the back, but not all the way back like a VW Beetle

There is literally no good angle to get at anything in the bay

However it's a Toyota and fairly reliable so you won't be in there every day

I really enjoyed the 1991 N/A handling
but I've also driven a 2003 MRS and really enjoyed that as well (probably because it was so light)

So say I build a 7A-GTE 20V, do you think I'd have to tinker with it after its been tuned?

tarbo? probably once in a while

>tarbo?
Yeah, 4A turbo manifolds fit on the 7A block, right?

if you have money to burn, should be great

personally I'd be happy with just the supercharged AW11

I read up on some kiwi's build that he put in a Levin AE92 and got 500whp out of and raced it in time attack, saw a YouTube clip of the race and others of the car and it's fucking awesome, it's what I want to do with an AW11, just not 500whp

This would make zero sense

get one with a v6 swap instead. more torque so dont really need turbo for wind up

AW11 has tiny fuel tank. so i hope you a planning on puttin a bigger one

Is there any storage behind the seats in the SW20?

dangerous? maybe. shit handling? not in the slightest.

yes, a little, kind of like a Z3
the ZZW30 actually has more room behind the seats but it has no room anywhere else

If I had known how many specialty parts the '88 Fiero had, I'd probably have bought an earlier year and bought a suspension upgrade kit. At this age, a parts-bin car doesnt sound that bad anymore...

did your dog get hit by a mr2?
i'm sorry user :(

I miss her car more than I miss her

I enjoy my 93 mr2 turbo and miss my 88 N/A.
Not dead yet.
They're not that bad it just takes a little longer to do shit.

>duct tape

Typical JDM shit. Forgo the proper way instead go the nigger rig route.

Yeah I saw that, and the questionable wiring job. I'm still interested because it's a Gen4, going to look at it in person. If I think that's indicative of the workmanship of the whole swap I'll walk away.

Rest in peace to all the aw11s that were cubed in junk yards and not used for spare parts.

rip in pieces

4WD MR2

Got this 1990 jdm turbo last year and loving it.

> 2 ecus
> sits through winter with a battery tender
> Uncover and prep for start up
> turn key
> starts fine
> mfw

here's a clapped-out Turbo well under my budget
should I pull the trigger?

I'd want to see every receipt and verify that those mods are in fact in the car
