We had an interesting discussion last night about the depravity of Flowey's murders and resets, among other characters. It got me thinking: Are there multiple timelines in the UT universe? Like, if Flowey or Frisk reload to their save, does that particular timeline continue on without them? Or is there just one timeline that is continually reset, and some characters can remember what happened before the reset?

most of the game's larger themes suggest "one constantly reset timeline"
an infinite multitude of parallel timelines is more like homestuck. never go full homestuck

the fact that characters can vaguely recall stuff from resets implies one timeline. true resets might create new ones, but that's iffy with soullessness carrying over.
i think there's only one time line (save file) at a time. when you reload your save, the timeline you were just in is gone. another one takes its place.
incidentally this is why i think FINALGC's ending was a shitshow, because it just throws up its hands and goes "lol guess it works different after all" to get its contrived happy ending after tens of thousands of words of contrived miserytext

it ends with flowey kicking the bucket without instinctively resetting like he's done for his entire life, which pretty much guarantees the monsters stay trapped underground and/or that flowey's just playing dead and will rewind things again at a minute's notice, but without ever mentioning or considering either of those possibilities
the author got called out on it several times and their answer was along the lines of "guess i know something that you don't"
