OMG SECOND

...

Is there actually a decent ethos in comparison to others? Never actually seen anyone say x is a good ethos without people disagreeing with them.

So after all that talk about Age of Empires 2, I decided to get the third. Is it as good as the second?
I already know about the card system bullshit, I intend to turn it off or ignore it.

BEST KOREA TIME

its not as good. but its still a good rts by its own merit. the biggest problem, I see, is that the late-game of aoe 3 is just easy as fuck. the only non-renewable resource is food, but because mills/plantations never have to be replanted, you get infinite sources of food and gold that can be almost as fast as normal gathering. which means that late-game confrontations over resources are non-existent.

From a gameplay perspective, is it bad to have infinite ressources?
I usually prefer games where ressources are unlimited, like Cossacks or Supreme Commander.

AHAHAHAHAHAHA STUPID SOUTHERNER AFRAID OF JUCHE POWERS

youtube.com/watch?v=zq54msMu3Sc

NORTH KOREA CRASHED
BUT STILL GO ON

it depends on the game. but its normally bad from a gameplay perspective because it means that theres a layer of strategy that doesnt exist. in games like starcraft, cnc, and aoe, you have to constantly conserve resources, and late-game can get extremely tense when you end up fighting for the last bits of good stuff on the map. you cant necessarily turtle forever in games like that, you're forced to be aggressive, or lose. but, it also depends on what you like. if you like infinite resources (I sometimes like it as well, after all, games like dow 1 are among my favorite rts games, and I do enjoy playing aoe 3) then it doesnt really matter as long as you enjoy it.

I'm just asking, because it is true that games with limited ressources usually have players being a lot more careful with their units, which makes for more interesting games to watch.

But I personally don't like playing them. They're fun to watch as you cannot turtle in, let's say, CnC, because you will run out of ressources, but I find it a little stressful as it requires you to interrupt your plans to expand, and multitasking is something I can do, but is tedious.

thats fair enough. honestly from a gameplay perspective I enjoy aoe 3 and games like dow more because they have mostly infinite resources. I was mostly saying that its a problem because if you're coming from aoe 2 into aoe 3 expecting aoe 2.5, you aint gonna get it. outside of core gameplay.

I hate when city states are not in ideal locations, you can't burn them down and settle in a better place. It really annoys me sometimes

Also you have 7 unhappiness senpai

I know it was shot down in flames by the critics for adding the retarded cards and the heroes unit in a blablant attempt to rip off Warcraft 3, I didn't know about the ressources.

Where can I find competitive games on Youtube of various RTS? Trying to find "good" players playing against each others is a bit difficult, most videos I found of Command and Command were of some fag playing against an hardest AI.

I remember the Rise serie trying to avoid that by adding a cap on the ressources that you could only improve by research.
In theory, that was a good idea as it rewarded expansion, but in facts, you were constantly hitting the cap and wasting ressources.

IT DOES NOT MATTER
WE EXECUTE THE DISSENTERS
WE CRUSH SOUTH KOREAN SCUM OF NOT RESPECTING JUCHE

the hero isnt too bad. its nothing like wc3 really, theres only 1 ability and they're really only useful vs treasure guardians. no leveling up either or anything like that. as for competitive games, it depends on the game really. you'll probably have to comb through google/whatever rts reddit you can find. I only look at people who play dow 1, 2, and some aoe 2, so I wont be very helpful.
it was pretty poorly done, since it was basically infinite resources on a cap. I liked the gameplay but it sucks that you advanced in ages real quick most of the time.

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH SOUTH KOREAN SCUM DIED LIKE FLEAS

youtube.com/watch?v=zq54msMu3Sc,

NORTH KOREA IS BEST KOREA

There are competitive online games with DoW? Care to give a link to a poor sap?

not actually competitive, that scene died in winter assault. im talking about master of roflness, since he does a lot of 'high level gameplay' since he and his group are pretty good at dow.

Damn. I was curious to see high-level stats to counter the Taus and the Imperial Guard.

Anyway, still experiencing with AoE2's AI, and despite how smart it usually is, its lack of adaptability is a definite flaw.
In the game I'm currently running, the britbongs rushed the Chinese in the second age, and have been harassing them all the way to the castle age, with the Chinese making absolutely no unit.

NON-JUCHE SCUM STILL AT RENAISSANCE
JUCHE MASTER-RACE IS INDUSTRALIZING, MASTERED BIOLOGY.

Speaking about AoE2, how do you counter skirmishers and archers? With Light Cavalry?
The AI is trying to counter with Chu Ko Nu, and of course it doesn't go well.

Wew, your map is really rich in fish huh, I never get maps like these

>all of the sudden, the briton removed all their troops and returned to their forum
>still stuck in second age while the chinese have advanced to fourth age
I don't get it.

i quited because of AI autism
>30 fucking caravels
>all try to attack two of my submarines
>my cruisers against their frigates
>rifleman versus musketman
and this is emperor, for crying out loud

Rush to the opponent versus rush to the highest tier.

What bothers me is that the Chinese AI hasn't built any barracks or archery range. It went to the third age, built a castle, and is now spamming Chu Ko Nus.

Once it's over I'll try installing a few Command Conquer games to see how their AIs act. I know the Japanese from Red Alert 3 love to spam the Giga Fortress, but beyond that...

>global warming

wew lad

-6025 gold per turn

>mad max + khmer rouge

>-6025 gpt

That's what happens when most of your tiles become desert.

nigger dont fuck mother earth this isn't alpha centauri

I miss the planet view

And with that, I think the game is set.

The Chinese :
>build some fishing ships but never really tried to expand in the water
>have an insane amount of food and tried to sell it
>rushed to castle age and spammed castle units and rams

The Brit:
>rushed with archer and skirmishers, and later with war galley, assuming total control of the sea
>let their archers compete against the Chu Ko Nu and lost all their armies

I don't understand why the AI never bothers to repair their buildings or heal their units. I'm sure it repaired its building in Star Wars Galactic Battlegrounds.
I'll watch this until the end and I'll start a SupCom game.

Okay, it may drag on for a while. The Brits started building forum everywhere. Literally.
And the Chinese finally built a barrack.

What the fuck is TSA?

Is it really that hard to make a reactive AI? So far, they always seem to focus on a specific strategy.

town size attack, its an ai thing.
aok.heavengames.com/university/other/town-size-attack/
the ai actually does react a lot of the time. ive seen it totally shift production from one unit type to the next in order to counter a strategy. are you playing aoe 2 hd from steam? if you are, then I dunno.

Lad you're playing Korea against Civ V AI, that's normal

NORTH korea
their ua is diffrent
all specialists have 1+ science only
has a overpowered monument to compensate with it

I suggest that you try one of the AI enhancer mods then. I haven't really had a full game with it, but the smart AI mod in that DLL site is not bad

Yes it is. AoE2 HD.

Maybe it's shit against AI opponent.

I don't understand at all what is going on in that picture.
Why don't you have sight on seoul?
What is that thing between the fort and the aqueduct?
What is Jeonju building?
Why do mines have 1 science?
Why are your cities puppeted?
Why is that one in resistence?

>Playing Persia
>Build chicken pizza
>Build Taj Mahal
>Take the tier 2 freedom policy that gives longer golden ages
>Bulb 4 artists
>120 turns of continuous golden age
This I like.

Let me explain it all:
i decided to FUCK the game with additional building mods and 1 science per mine because MUH geology.
>Why can't you see Seoul?
I am North Korea, with my capital in the south as Pyongyang.
>What is the thing between the fort and the aqueduct
One of my policy mods, Public Baths.
>What is Jeonju building?
An Agora, again.
>why are they puppeted
Because i took them from Korea, and made them North Korean.
>why is that one in resistance?
I got it from Korea thru a deal.

...

...

Aren't those cities too close to each other?

>not one city every other tile
nigga you don't know what you're doing

Okay, I checked the AI in SupCom FA.
Even the Sorian advanced AI is bloody stupid, sending its commander to the frontline.

I noticed two things :
-first, I misunderstood. I wasn't using the Sorian AI, but the cheating AI,
-second, these aren't bushes. They're trees.

>have to wait for 1.3 patch for stellaris to start a new empire
Hurry the fuck up paracucks

Buy a few DLCs first, then they'll update.

Same here.
It's killin' me user.
I've fucking taken to playing Beyond Earth while I wait, which just shows you how much they need to speed up

>playing Beyond Earth
Are you a masochist?

I periodically keep going back to it and TRYING to like it.
Without success, but I keep clinging on.

Are there any mods that at least go somewhere towards fixing it?
At the moment what annoys me the most is trade route spam, and the fact that you get to the end of the game and 2/3 of the map is still unsettled.

That only thing I can think of it is Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri.

What kind of game you want? A 4x that has space elements but takes place on one planet instead of space?

>the AI is not really smart
Well yeah, but the Sorian AI is still one of the very few that didn't completely suck.

>those are trees
Welcome to SupCom, where the most basic unit is a ten meter tall death robot that has two fuckhuge railguns.

In SMAC the "get to the end of the game and 2/3 of the map is still unsettled" thing is WORSE

>AoE2HD doesn't have a manual
I'm murderously sure it was one of the few games with a manual that detailled every ingame unit.

Dunno, in that test run I just tried, the commander tried to rush me for some reason and assploded.
>the most basic unit is a ten meter tall death robot that has two fuckhuge railgun
If it wasn't for the Infinite War, SupCom's universe would be pretty much perfect, since they basically have unlimited energy and can completely turn mass into any matter they need.

>Dunno, in that test run I just tried, the commander tried to rush me for some reason and assploded.
On certain smll maps it was actually a relatively common strategy to use the ACU offensively after a few minutes, and before t2.
Maybe they tried to script the AI to do this.

It's obviously doomed to fail on bigger maps because the enemy will get t2 by the time your ACU has waddled across the map.

>they basically have unlimited energy and can completely turn mass into any matter they need.
Yes. They are actually living in post-scarcity utopia, but they also use that same tech base to wage war. And it's pretty fucking scary if you think what that actually means.

That's extremely sad, because it's mean it's really not a war for ressources.
It's a complete extermination over ideology.

Good thing the Seraphims arrived and SupCom2 suggests things improved.

>It's a complete extermination over ideology.
One might say that it is a game that is about Total Annihilation.

>the Seraphims arrived
Yeah, though the idea that now two galaxy-spanning civilizations wage war on one another with esssentially limitless ressources is not exactly a cheering one.

Their only limitation is time and the number of ACUs they can field.
>SupCom2
Every time I'm reminded that this exists, I want to nuke Japan some more.

Seriously, all they needed to do was take SupCom, update the engine, update some graphics, and rock on.

But what do the fucking nintendo faggots do? Ruin it all.

you dont like cybran dinosaurs? wow, whats wrong with you :^)

But the Seraphims get banned at the end of SupCom FA.

And while I dislike SupCom 2 (which is a prime example of why you shouldn't make RTS for consoles), at least it ended up on a mostly positive note, with mankind united again. Even through Dr Brain had a nefarious plan ready.

youtube.com/watch?v=_0JSca-chdU
Civ V had great music, hope Civ VI has the same quality

I don't understand the logic behind the Command and Conquer games. I always get screwed.

Don't dilly dally.

No, I mean. I'll just greentext to keep it simple.

>make vehicles
>they get destroyed by the infantry
>make infantry
>inexpensive, but long
>they get ran over by vehicles
No matter what I do, it seems like the enemy takes 50% damage and I take 150%, with my units dying in three hits while I need to focus all my fire on one of his unit to die.

I haven't played C&C specifically, but have you tried combining your forces?

Also, why not run over enemy infantry yourself?

Because it requires micromanaging to run over every unit and I can't micromanage one buggy when my tanks are being destroyed.
Everything is so fragile in the Command and Conquer games.

Apparently if you put all the AI's in a somewhat overpopulated planet, medium size or less, they get extra aggressive and seem to employ their programming at full.
Pic related.

Just noticed a weird bug with AoE2HD : if you're spectating a regicide game, you can kick the king out of the castle.

god damn is war boring in stellaris
after playing as a warmongering empire i can't stand war anymore

I realized I've been playing warmongering xenophobic slavers wrong.
>Skip the first colony ship, spam corvettes
>Rush your nearest neighbor
>Destroy their spaceport, take their planet
>Enslave everyone
>Double mineral output, build more corvettes
>Ignore the game yelling at you about naval capacity
>Spam defense armies for slave revolts
>Rush your new nearest neighbor, repeat

Pretty fun and refreshing after playing early game peaceful. Malcontent slaves were a lot less of a threat than I thought. I'm obviously running into science problems, but it doesn't matter when I'm the guy with the 2k corvette doomstack when all anyone can muster is 800 including their spaceport.

If University of Planet isn't your favorite faction then you ain't my nigga.

>university of planet
My nigga, best faction. Gaia second best because waifus and pretty cities

Do you think if we meme enough we can get Catherine's leader screen fixed so she's not using a champagne glass to drink red wine?

consider investing in absurd amounts of static defenses.
that's how i always played c&c or red alert

>BERT is never going to be updated again
>they will never fix the one broken achievement
>I'll never get it

You guys know you can turn off global warming right? All you have to do is edit 4 lines of text in a text document in your Civ 4 folder.

>cheating
Don't ever speak to me or my wifes son again.

It really disappoints me the best way to beat a boss you're having trouble with is to just switch to a straight sword

Literally EVERY boss I had a tough time on became TRIVIAL BULLSHIT when I spammed those safe, high damage, low startup/endlag R1s

Fuck how did I end up here

Sorry wrong thread

Anybody know what mods (or mod types at least) could cause pic related? I uninstalled-reinstalled, and still give me this crap, so I figure it's a mod.

bump

Probably a mod that hasn't been updated to use the 1.2.* l_english.yml file in the localisations folder.

Start with the ones that are not updated to 1.2.* then check the ones that use the localisation files

University pride Planet wide
Gas the Believers fedora war now

>just really found out about no quitters mod/community balance patch
>both require a dlc I dont have and never thought I would need
>I missed the civ dlc sale

>page 10

I'm sorry, I can't hear you over the sound of playing on easy mode but their fluff is so fun half a million of my comrades swarming your shit.

I hope your fancy science things can stop an ocean of communists.

Why do anthropoid look so fucking good?! My pants can't contain my boner

I know right?! straight swords are bullshit

fucking hell how the fuck am i supposed to get influence without reking other empires?
im running out of empires to rek

>make rivals
>remove outposts
>effective planetary administration
:^)

>when you keep getting dropped off right next to the necrophage
That being said I am really digging this game. I don't think I've played a 4x quite like it.
