My experience with my work's 3,1 merc bluetec that has been a NIGHTMARE maintenance wise inclines me to say no, but it's in a sprinter, so not sure how related.

Consumer Reports, and just general research/feedback seems to say that the GLK is a great vehicle. I can get one that was leased and has 3k miles for $31k, and I can easily haggle it down lower.
