Because War Thunder manages to have not only a worse grind but so much more bias and rng in their game. You can't tell me with a straight face that any of the ammo and shrapnel in the game is rightfully sound in its so called "realistic" portrayal of tank warfare. They advertise the game is for a hardcore audience but then keep subjecting its player base to more and more arcade mechanics that only serve to try and compete with WoT. I hate the Gaijin more as a comany and game developer than I had Wot and its bullshit.

Its probably better. Most people havn't even played those tanks as they were added a few years after the fact into lines most have already been down.

It's a bit slow and a bit potato, but the gun definitely is good.

most german heavies are pretty shit when stock though, but most tanks are so that isnt really a let down

The gun is great, can't really rely on armor beyond random shots, slow as fuck both at moving and turning.
Will get you used to the way to play VK36, Tiger and german heavies in general.
Sadly, many of the upgrades don't carry over from Pz III or IV, so you have to suffer through stock for a while.
Not nearly as bad as the DW2, fortunately.

How? It's so slow and the pen is awful if you're thrown into a t8 match. I love the armor and it's great for pissing off kv2s, but half the time the enemy heavies trick me and go to the opposite side. Churchill 1 is one of my best tanks but I suck with the 7. Teach me your secrets.

The T-34-85 is very competitive, too.

One often overlooked option is the 30.01P. It has to be said, though, that it struggles heavily in tier+2 matches because of the 145 pen. But if you play something like tier 6 stronkholes where people just bumrush each other, the 30.01P really shines with its incredibly alpha.

I've started becoming so careful in my meds that I take most damage to the turret anyways, so I don't get tracked more than what my repair kit can deal with anyways.

What about the VK30.02? Has low Alpha but compared to the T-34/85 has higher DPM, slightly better armor and quite a bit more HP.

Being a med is not about armor and HP

It is about flanking and maneuverability

It's huge, the mobility isn't all that great and the turret doesn't have any bounce angles.
The potato alpha also makes trading close to impossible. It's just as soul crushing as the panther, since while you do have nice pen, the alpha just has this tenk dead on arrival.

I was assuming 700HP was good enough to go fast, but terrain resistances look bad.

see This is a lucky game in this tank. The 34-85 does better more often. the VK has armor but it is pretty much useless. It's slow, it gets ammo racked ever other shot, it has typical german accuracy that is good on paper but bad in practice.
