Because I'd really rather not throw 400 pounds of loose mulch or gravel into the back of my van.

Show me a van that'll do a fifth wheel. I'll wait.

get a trailer
why the fuck would you ever want to tow a giant fifth wheel camper anyway

is that a delica? i love my delica

Van won't pull my racecar trailer

to go camping?

because they have a small penis and not enough money for one of those mega RV's built on a coach bus platform.

>van is better
>needs a trailer for basic lawncare supplies

what's the full tow weight?

Previa All trac, is one of my secret wants

dad use to own one, brakes started to fail after a tow truck pulled it. Calipers locked up couple streets from the house, caught fire before making it home.

with the car, tools, fuel, tires and all the other gear, about 5500 lbs. the gtw of the trailer is near 10K iirc

yep
see >towing a huge trailer to what is essentially a gravel parking lot only to sit around drinking beer and eating hot dogs with a bunch of other overweight suburbanites
that's not what "camping" is, cletus
>one of those mega RV's built on a coach bus platform
fuck those things to goddamn hell, they're so massive and unwieldy and slow and the sort of person who's typically behind the wheel of one can't drive it for shit
so it's only useful one day out of the 364 other days of the year
based egg

try dumping a load into the back of a van using a crane or back hoe?

vans are very comfy though.

>you will never own a brand new AWD LWB sprinter

dodge did them better

>let that sink in

So what, is owning a trailer forbidden? I bet you hate roof boxes too, you bloody moron.

...

wat
those were built in Germany, disassembled ad then reassembled. and that only goes for the cargo version, the passenger carrier was imported already finished
that dude from iceland modified those pretty well, the fenders make em look pretty silly though

So where's you van and trailer with your flimsy plastic box on the roof?

I'm driving a wagon and I haven't had a need for a roof box or trailer yet. I'm just arguing that it's fucking moronic to insist having your trailer box permanently attached to your vehicle.

Not a single person here has said anything about permanently towing a trailer you dumbass. But then again, an overreacting lesbian would make a big deal out of nothing.

I was thinking of getting a truck when i had the funds but vans tend to be cheaper and hold the same shit and i can make a cargo box out for 1" OSB for loose messy stuff like plants bags of dirt and mulch

Take out the seats and transport furniture

lol.... no, but I'll egg you on. what's your idea of camping? drinking your own piss and wiping your ass with a pinecone?

Permanent pickup truck you giant fucking imbecile.

>trailer box
And I'm the stupid one. It's called a truck you illiterate jackwagon. Don't be mad all you can afford is a busted ass old Subaru legacy.

not lugging a second home with me to some lame littered campsite full of fat people

>doesn't conform to your limited world view
>must be wrong

your aspergers is showing

You see, a truck can not only haul a (heavier) trailer and be used for loads you don't want in an enclosed, possibly carpeted area that's linked to the driver's cabin, but be converted into a shitty van when an open back doesn't suit your cargo.

Con: hard and potentially illegal to haul people

no i just don't have a small penis

>gets called out because suffering from aspergers
>nothing left to do but something something penis size

it's way past your bedtime, young man

It's not camping if you bring a house with you.

Where I live you can't haul that big of a trailer on a basic license anyway. Midsize vehicle (1500 kg) with passengers and cargo (500 kg) and its empty weight worth of trailer (1500 kg) behind it and that's basically your weight limit right there.

Because i live in America where proper pickups are made, and we're not limited by insane Euro regulations.

Proper pickups are made by Japan, not America.

>europeans caring what we drive over the pond

why are we irking you so much?

>have to remove entire body off of frame to service engine
>lower towing capacity
>lower payload capacity
>less cargo space
>all cargo must be loaded in cab behind driver making for a potentially dangerous and awful smelling experience
>less ground clearance
>rarely available with 4x4
>inability to easily clean deposits and blood left behind cargo
>objectively better

The only real reason to have a van is if you're too poor to afford an enclosed trailer.

Show us a proper pickup that's actually built in Japan. I'll wait.

>vans vs trucks argument

fuck you're all retarded

Whats with all the bullshit about towing and load capacity.

Stupid Americans.

I would love to have a 4x4 van but they are far less common used ergo more expensive for the same thing plus their engine compartment are cramped as fuck. I may go Suburban next time though.

You know there are van's that have the same open cargo area as pickup's.

Isn't not having that basically the defining characteristic of a van?

Yes it is, but not for some people.

this is Veeky Forums. they'll argue over which tire is rounder

Because I WANT A TRUCK.

Probably will, actually.

Don't need more than a bicycle to camp. Sleeping bag, tent.

Why would you want to do that with your brotruck anyway? Have you ever done that?

Are 70 series Land Cruisers still built in Japan? Some of those are pickups.

>lower towing capacity
>lower payload capacity
Explain this bullshit.

I own both a pickup and a van. They do pretty much the same thing.

One is only better than the other if your needs are very specific.

I drive the pickup most of the time because I'm too lazy to open the back/side doors so I just drop shit in the bed because its more convenient.

Also, visibility in the pickup is better. Less blind spots and I can actually see when reversing.

The van can carry way more cargo volume though, and I can leave something inside overnight and still get a good nights sleep.

Because you can't put an entire bedroom suite in the back of your van.

Also
>2016
>pulling front clip to change air filter

yeah i'll stick with my pickup.

can't pull my boat

>tfw 504 pick up

>vans are objectively better
For work vehicles, a van is better for certain trades. Just as much as a truck is better suited for other trades.
I work with heavy equipment. Most of the time Im the one building the roads, so I need something to get through rough and muddy terrain. In the US there just isn't a big selection of 4wd vans.
I also haul a drop in diesel tank for the equipment. No way would I want to smell that cooking in the back of a van all day.
Almost every day something needs moved around the site, and everything I work with is heavy. It usually gets loaded in the back of my truck by equipment. You're not going to want to stuff an escavator bucket in the back of a van.
Most everything that gets put in my work truck is greasy, dirty, or muddy. Having an outside box for that is handy. As far as security is concerned, who the hell is around to steal it? I'm not typically working in populated areas, and if they can reach back there and steal 700lb part, they can have it. I'm not going to try and stop them.
Again, I'm not saying that a van is useless. An HVAC guy, or plumber, or electrician would probably find a standard van to be the most practical tool for the job. In my line of work however it just isn't. This was decided by people who spend more time than me in my specific field, and they base recommendations accordingly. If you want to refute each of my points I suggest you talk to them. Because they are the reason my boss bought me a truck to drive.

Greatest pickup of all time.

but that's not really a personal vehicle though. . .

for a homeowner/weekend warrior, a fan is subjectively better, unless you live on a nice big chunk of land and need to go through mud and gunk to get shit done

in the suburbs, a van works out better, unless you're using it as a 4x4 then a truck or suv will always work better

or they are better off just renting a work truck for the weekend to haul their junk around, that way they don't even have to deal with the low gas mileage or the maintenance of a truck or van

>there are van's that have the same open cargo
So....a pickup truck?

i think he meant a panel van

That's just a normal van though, only difference is there's only two seats.

Its a work truck, but im sure he drives it for other things. Just accept that Americans love their trucks, and Euro can keep their vans.

and usually no carpet or interior panels from the factory, well past the driver/cockpit area

sure you could do that to any van by just removing that stuff but why pay extra for it when panel vans exist and are usually cheaper, because they are already beat up by tradesmen

i'm american tho. . .

but i guess i grew up around vans and trucks and the vans always got more use and were more useful as a home gamer

Wait, so when Americans say van they actually think of a fucking church van with seats and windows instead of a ply lined work van.
Thats idiotic.

It comes from panel trucks also known as delivery truck back in the 1940-60

And panel wagons were called sedan delivery

And they are passenger vans some retards call them buses

so, work truck thread?

Why would anyone buy something that yuropoors, pedophiles, hippies, and suburban moms drive?

its a 450, its fine br/o/

one last thing that wont happen with a van

>muh towing
You know you can do all that with a van right?

what fucking van besides those ford 7.2l and a big ass saw job on the back end of it hauls a 5th wheel?

>love arcade machines. rebuilding, restoring
>usually not a good idea to lay them on their back
>easy as hell to get in bed of pickup
is having a reason wrong?

there are plenty of tall objects/things you wouldn't want in the back of a van that could not possibly justify buying a trailer for. Plus I like being able to pop the hood and work on my shit. I always hated the 6" hood and the panel between the seats up front to get to anything on my ol' vans. 78' westy aside that is

>You know you can do all that with a van right?
Show me a van that can tow 10,000 pounds. I'll wait.

I've seen these with 450 suspensions. I doubt 10,000 lb. But maybe if you cut a slit in it for the 5th wheel hahahahah

They top out at 9000 pounds for the e350 chassis. And that's with the fucking V10. An F150 can do 10k while being cheaper and using a much smaller engine.

>in the book
yeah sure, but have you tried it? my 05 Silverado says 8k standard. I've towed 10k for 300 miles np. It just depends on how much wear you want your tranny to get suffer though. The suspension will usualy hold about 1/3rd more then rated. xD

like do you really think any of these transit vans in this post are capable of carrying more then 3 or 4 of these Eu Miata/beamer cucks around off of any black top without getting a third of their clutch packs in the red?

What in the fuck are you trying to say?

>I love rebuilding tranny's every 30k miles

first off see original post hereI've personally seen two of these econoboxes with 450 frames/suspensions. They were swapped. It dosent really matter anyway because typically the thsounads difference between the 350/450 is larger brakes, little more turning radious and a leaf spring or two. They say 9k, but that is underrated is my point. They will haul 10,000lb's. For a while. Maybe not 400k highway and 10 years, but they will do it. That is what you asked for in

rolling over ?

>one last thing that wont happen with a van
That listed bro-truck may have a stripper pole, but my van has room for a mattress.

Meanwhile here in America, as soon as you get your driver's license you could be driving a vehicle towing a trailer with a combined weight of 26000lbs (11793kg), as long as it's not for commercial use (farm use exempted).

yeah 70s and 200s are made in yota city

pic related is hard to work on and parts are scarce but i agree and i like that style of van too

Daily reminder that american trucks are weak as shit and fragile and break easily.

youtube.com/watch?v=k62gW3Se5e0

Everybody knows that in shit like this the first person to break traction loses. And those retarded brotruck tires won't get the same street traction as the TWARegg's road tires.

If the brotruck was on good street tires and didn't spin them to show off he wouldn't have lost.

>If the brotruck was on good street tires and didn't spin them to show off he wouldn't have lost.

Yes, yes. Lots of excuses. As expected.

Why not just strip the back of a cheap as shit minivan? Space for days, covered if needed. Rip out all the rear seats.

welcome to my dad's van in the early 1990's that was sketchy as fuck too i had to sit on a rubbermaid cooler in the back, and a family friend at the time let him secure her baby seat, with a baby in to an unsecured bench seat in the back that would always slide around because my dad hoon'd on that little chevy astro

if you were in the san fancisco bay area and got cut off by a metallic red chevy astro in the 1990's that was probably my dad

but yea they work decently like that for carrying just about anything someone in the suburbs would need to do, it'll carry everything from 4x8 sheet goods, loose dirt, just put a trap down or an osb box filled with the stuff and cover it with a trap

i don't recommend the throwing it in reverse then slamming on the breaks to unload it though the box just disintegrates and you have to pick all that shit out of the dirt, and definitely don't do it in your driveway, it broke the fence and pushed in the garage door

but as a 6-7 year old it was awesome seeing it happen until you had to help clean it up
