Alternative. There is mods on the Steam workshop that change your character ship to one of another race. I use the human one to carry my weapon hoard. the image is a bit old though

don't use frackin' universe, it's a bloated shitty mod and even if you somehow wanted both all of its features and all its shitty sprites and to never have any space in your inventory because every five feet there's twenty distinct things to collect, you need only skim the last couple of threads to see loads of people having it break their games because it's so buggy

That's vanilla actually. You can find frozen planets around fiery stars for instance, it's just not common.

Why can't they just make all peaceful npcs immune to monster damage? I think I've seen some tutorial npc near the entrance to the mines that monsters didn't even attack.

Depends if the server allows mismatched assets or not. Just don't use race or item stuff or the server will crash

sadly yes, though stuff you've ran past stays active. You used to be able to cheese the first mission by running past all the mobs at breakneck speed, they'd eventually all freeze and the boss wouldn't even attack.
