It looks alternately cluttered in the center stack and dull on the doors. The seats don't look especially welcoming. Nothing is particularly stylish or original.

I'm an oldfag and Ive had a 96 S500, an 03 sl500, an 08 c63 amg and currently drive a 2014 e63 amg.

Every single one has been better than the last. In no way was my first better than any later iteration. The performance, luxury, technology, amenities and innovation has continually progressed in the 18 years I've been driving them.

Unless we're talking 7 series, BMW and Mercedes have entirely different markets for the most part. Mercedes makes great rolling couches and BMW makes good sport luxury. Their interiors reflect this.

Girlfriend drives a 2015 SL550 and I can confirm that shit is the bomb, even with my bias towards manual transmissions and simpler interiors.

I wish BMWs hadn't been horrendously ugly since Bangle. I haven't liked the exterior of a BMW since the e39 m5 and e46 m3.

Of course. There's a fantastic shop reasonably close to me called Johanns Independent that does maintenance on out of warranty German stuff with more care than a dealer.

The dealers don't care at all about quality when doing warranty repairs.

You can fucking spot the VW parts a mile off. The screen and the A/C buttons are pinched from the Phaeton but given gloss black plastic instead of grey plastic to make it look "expensive"

But they're not even good at that anymore. I drove a 340i last week and it neither sporty nor luxurious. The plastics were just a step above Ford plastics. The steering was absolute trash. Compared to other cars in the class (IS350, ATS, etc.) I could barely feel anything other than the lan keep assist vibration. I don't know who greenlit the new 3 series, but it's garbage at being a luxury car and garbage at being a sports car.
