First for rectangles.

video game development...

we need more OP images

>no space related OP pic to celebrate Space Jam
shaking my head

daily reminder that bunnydev is a limp wristed faggot enabling shitposting in this general

>a waste of computing resources
It's a 2d platformer in the current year, we'll survive.
nice slippery slope

>they assume all devs are male and refer to anons as "he"
oookkkk

Reminder next jam will be happening after demo day ten.

ugly OP text

>made it in time
I'm gonna lie down now.

>he uses global mutable state
>he orients his code around objects

first for PyGame
>JUST

>it's a waste of effort

But in the overall picture you'll save more time because you won't have to place collision boxes by hand?!?

>shmup

You're allowed to not post in this thread.

LESS THAN AN HOUR

So I have a book on sfml, should i work with that or would there be a better place to start?

>assuming anyone actually codes here
yeah I know

shit I better get started

> you can't chug down a 2d game
> fps isn't a concern

you might have outed your nodev-ness there, friend

To those who were saying they can't see the missiles, is pic related an improvement?

Not unless he has several hundred enemies kiddo

=\=
A properly programmed game with excessive hitboxes won't be a problem on anything but extreme toasters.

SFML is alright if you're making a game with basic 2D graphics and you've already decided you want to use C++.

Who is the biggest bro dev of /agdg/?

A better place to start would be downloading an actual engine and making a game, instead of trying to make an engine yourself.

I'm making a video now. Playing through them all
Doing some editing.

Count say itll be interesting or good, but you'll be able to see your games.

>T-bone collision of large spacecraft at a fair velocity
>just some spinning before recovery
stop this

Gatedev

>Trails in space
Stop this

The unholy trinity of:
googum
rotate
dan ashley

>you can't use C++ and SFML to make a game

I take that back, it's actually good

Is there ever a gameplay reason to be that zoomed in? Why wouldn't a player just sit at the most strategic view?

The game went from 4000fps to 3850fps after I changed all the enemies to use the automatically generated collision as opposed to one pre-programmed by me.

I think it will be fine.

>oh god, stop taking liberties in a video game, everything HAS TO be 1:1 to our reality

I do agree they're excessive though

post link

what if the camera has a slow aperture speed and that is light trails?

The fighters are really small, so zooming out too much would make it really hard to hit them

Yes you can. But you're wasting way more time than you need to.

doing anything by yourself triggers them, don't bother.

>need

no

first for error handling

Why would there not be trails in space?

-273

Because trails are lights being reflected in air, there's no air in space.

error monad

...

yes
Source(s): I am a retired police officer. I retired as a sergeant, after 29 years, from a very large department, about 12,000 officers. I was a patrol officer for 4 years in a very diverse area. I was a tactical officer in the high rise project areas of my city. We called it vertical patrol in that we walked the the stairways of the high rises most of the time. I did that for 5 years and was promoted by test to detective. I worked violent crime (homicide, sex, officer involved shootings, robbery, kidnapping, serious non property incidents) for 11 years until I was promoted to sergeant. I worked as a street supervisor, a bicycle patrol supervisor and a desk sergeant/watch commander.
During my time as a tactical officer and a detective I was a unit representative for the police union.
I have a B.A in English and an M.S. in Law Enforcement Administration

>48 minutes left in the jam
>forgot to compile and upload game because i was playing games
>don't know how long it'll take to compile
>don't know how big it'll be
>don't know how long it'll take to upload it

>intentionally allowing errors to happen
stop this. fix all errors

Wait the jam isn't over yet (and I'm currently fixing mine)

> people caring about the space jam

retard

things that never happened:

that is a shit thing to say.

no actual dev would willingly say "fuck older pcs" when developing something designed to run ok on underpowered hardware, aka, fucking 2d platformers.

even in general, any programming major would fucking flog you for implying that competent programming relies on superior processing power to cover up for inefficient coding.

i know some devs who work in workaround for d3d deficiency, because it's THEIR job to make sure that their software runs on older machines.

just. fucking kill yourself user.

...

There is a thing such as light trail

But spaceships fighting in space is totally realistic right? FAG

but user, its not intentional, its to make it user-proof

It is where I hail from earthling.

I hate to break it to you guys. But there are real life object in space right now that create trails of gas that reflect light.

>try { ... } catch (exception e) { //do nothing }

Who else is /mischief/ in here?

Yeah well my planet's ships leave trails in space so GET FUCKED

also you know
Also I never implied any of those things.

so kill YOURSELF.

it's literally happening right now. i'm uploading it as we speak

Well rused

ATLEAST THEY DONT LOOK LIKE SHIT FAGGOT NIGGER COCKSUCKER WHERES YOUR GAME

That's because we see them through our atmosphere so the vision is smudged and it looks like it has a trail.

submit a game with no download.
compile game
upload game
even if it's past the jam end you can still update the game. of course you will disappoint anyone who tries to download your game in the meantime.

a lot of libraries (including standard libraries) misuse exceptions so it might not actually be harmful

>It is where I hail from earthling.
Lies. Aliens do not exist and even if we did we wouldn't be posting in chinese cartoon boards.

thanks, i'll do that then

Explain this then

i only use exceptions when im doing rapid prototyping, else im using if's and trying to avoid having any code that can fail outside of loading.

dont forget to check your API documentation, errors arent always errors, im looking at you microsoft

This has to be trolling. Don't you know what sun tails are?

I thought the "American schools are shit" was just a meme.

And you do realise a rocket would leave a trail due to the mass it HAS to push behind it?

>7k lines in Main
Literally trash
Absolute garbage
Waste
junk
filth
swill
muck

Can someone explain the origin of thr AYY LMAO meme?

>I'm going to triple development time to make my game accessible to an extra 2% of my target audience
autism

Why do you assume he's american?

We have frogs, wops, bongs, and HUEHUEs here.

Im not waiting for a dev you can deliver.
Seriously though, I am. Just working on whats out for now

>This has to be trolling because my opinion is different

When you go outside our atmosphere and see an extraterrestrial object with your own eyes, you can tell me I'm wrong fuckface.

Tumblr started being obsessed with 420 x Weed pictures of cheesy 50's aliens with that line. Veeky Forums of course IRONICALLY started using it, and now it's post ironic.

Actually our game is Cosmic Castaway, we're about to upload the updated version.
It's already playable as it is but we fixed a couple of bugs an user found in the previous thread.

i-it's okay, i'll just fix that bug l-later

You are such a bad troll it hurts. Google sun tails and go cry to mommy. You forget that for example rockets emit particles behind them.

Damn stupid people trigger me more than they should.

I made a Spacejam game.

Did I do it? Am I yes dev? Or do two week jam games only count as like, maybedev?

>Tumblr started being obsessed with 420 x Weed pictures of cheesy 50's aliens with that line.
You but
WHY
Like, literally what's the relation. I don't get modern memes at all, like that dat boi one.

>Using the word troll in 2016

There is only yesdev and nodev. If you are making a game, you are yesdev, otherwise you are nodev.

You made space game, you are yesdev. Once you stop making games you are nodev.

> he fell for the jam meme
You're a nodev and you're two weeks behind on your game. Now get to work.

But i already recorded that one.
And didnt really run into bugs. Is it worth rerecording?

>he said, while being a nodev

>programming new game feature for 15-30 minutes
>no major error occurred on first run only few typos
all smiles

Normies are weird, user.
It was funny to them to see a cheesy alien smoke, be high and say that.

one person posts it, then two four eight 16 etc

>Write a piece of code, assuming it's obvious
>Come back weeks later and have no idea how it works

Reminder to comment your code.

Discard all logic when it comes to memes

if you repeat something for long enough it becomes funny
