Rimworld General - /rwg/

rimworldgame.com/

RimWorld follows three survivors from a crashed space liner as they build a colony on a frontier world at the rim of known space. Inspired by the space western vibe of Firefly, the deep simulation of Dwarf Fortress, and the epic scale of Dune and Warhammer 40,000.

Cold weather is bullshit

fuck randy.
im starting a new world

>indoors -116C
I dont understand how you can think this is bullshit
it's perfectly simple: the planet wants you to die
man was not made to brave the planet you have landed on.

What.

do you just try to get off the planet every game or do you folks have different goals in your worlds?

I like to play like dwarf fortress. Just make a colony and see how long I can make it last.

My goal for every world is to survive.

After I'm reasonably sure the colony is self-sustaining and defensible I start a new game on a different biome.

Btw, how long have you guys been playing? I got in at Alpha 4

You don't just wait for the Mechanoids to wipe you out with some bullshit?

r8 my b8 m8s tell me what I did wrong cause BESIDES not choosing a mountain for start location, fucking can't find anymore components or steel for the life of me, ty god for smelting and component table of i would be so fucked

KLOL

>all these names
>and dave

lol thats me, im only playti

only playing on rough* Its my first time :3 (second time if you count the massive failure that was my first colony) also bottom left of my screen
>Daveland

mates, how can I defend the base?
too many openings, this one in particular with a lake to the side, can't be walled, also damn mud terrain can't build on them either

The other problem parts on the minimap, large openings to both sides, I'm thinking of not walling them out but make some kinda bunker in each spot

oh and also, my visitors seems to fancy staying on my freezer

ME TOO! they always stay in the freezer..

in an unrelated matter Has anyone tamed a thrumbo? is it possible? is it worth?

fucking nudist just distracting everyone

do you have the visitor mod?
you need to set up guest beds if you do and they will always set up around there

does anyone else jerk off to some of the implications behind a character's background and skills sometimes

Do bunkers, i don't wall in anything i build i just put bunkers at all the chokeholds. Make sure there's a roof over the turrets so they're in darkness and have sandbags/shield in front of them for best modifiers.

is this real.. like wtf did the game make that description??

Fiercest group of pirates Ive ever seen

>Finally get a decent roll
>Even get a QT female colonist
>See this

Hunter is right cause I stumbled into a trap.

i want to feed him nothing but semen

this game is in alpha? seems pretty polished to me already
any big things they wanna add?

And a few rolls later, we've found mother dearest. Looks like she had him at the tender age of thirteen. And with those traits too.

/pol/ WAS RIGHT AGAIN

Go ahead anons, Guess how cold it is outside that my indoor temperature with 15+ industrial heaters is -191c

how do you even start on a map like this? wouldnt your colonists freeze instantly?

it... it can't be colder than -273

Give us the fucking seed
WHERE IS THE FUCKING SEED

I like the way Tynan thinks

it's devmode prolly

Seed is "Lepanto" ,

Over here it can be. It's actually so fucking cold i've had to start building a seperating wall chamber because the rock of the mountain is freezing my base

My colonists are wearing -120-150c resist armor. My best builder has -210c protection, and still lost two fingers to frostbite.

alright, Osiris survived the infection and joined in,
lets hope he doesn't go beserk on me
on another note, damn seems like 4x4 rooms are too tight for a barracks style settlement
what room sizes do you fancy?

where the sex mods at

Yeah most of the time I die horribly to some random drops inside my base.

I now make odd chokepoints and wall cover inside hallways.

Alright, I'm both impressed and horrified.

Is this devmode?

How are you reaching this level of cold? Is this natural at all?

>Check Lepanto seed at all sizes
>Nothing even gets to -90c

What

I view the space ship as a last ditch resort if I'm being overrun

only a few survivors make it

Its cold snap that does it, as long as cold snap is active the temperature will continue to drop lower and lower and lower.

Same as heatwave

...

But that's wrong, though. Heat Wave doesn't infinitely climb, and Cold Snap doesn't infinitely decrease. Even if it did, that is LITERALLY nearly 200 degrees below fucking absolute zero.

Absolute.
Fucking.
Zero.

You know, the point where all motion just stops happening.

is there a reason to not re-roll characters until you get one without any 'incapable of' shit? from what i can tell you dont get bonuses in other areas if your characters has these weird drawbacks
same with negative traits

the incapable isn't so bad honestly, mostly it's about matching the story/trait bonuses with skills and the burning rate at which you can learn.

A high learning bonus comes useful mostly if you need to raise a skill beyond 10

global work speed is useful for artist and craftsmen

that doesnt really answer my question
you can have high learning bonuses and so on without all the negative shit too if you re-roll often enough

If you're on extreme and've pissed off the storyteller heatwave doesn't end, its like those maps with permanent solar flares.

Well then.

That's.

Terrifying.

how do you piss off the storyteller

This was done with dev mode.

dev mode doesn't have temperature changes user

Dev mode has ways to piss off the storyteller and make time move at 4x speed, which'd let it build up faster, I guess?

But it's still bullshit,

im looking, im not finding a way to change temperature

What power should I use?

it's kinda dull in late game right now

tynan's keeping his cards close to his chest

except for the drugs

he plans to add lots of drugs

9x9 is minimum with furniture.

Power source? Solar panels with batteries supplemented by wind farms. I hope you settled near geothermal, because that's necessary late game.

or you can use a mod and get what you want without all the rolling of dice

>9x9
You mean 5x5?
What furniture do you need besides a bed

you're going to want a few statues in there to make them happy

maybe a table and chairs with gather spot turned off

They can play horseshoes all day for all i care

art watching drives joy through the roof in seconds

pain in the ass to randomly cycle until you get it, wish there was a way to choose manually

Man, fuck the desert biome.
Devoid of animals to use as a food source.
Only get 10 wood per cactus.
Soil is slow at growing food.

I just want to make a comfy vault dweller colony.

Are you an idiot?

You can trigger the Heat Wave event with dev mode. That pic is from last there where someone triggered like 10 different heatwaves at once.

I have no doubt this cold faggot is doing the same exact thing. Fuck it is probably the same dude.

steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=726641991

Someone do me a solid, post in that shit and tell this fucker to make it easier.

>That pic is from last there where someone triggered like 10 different heatwaves at once.
>I have no doubt this cold faggot is doing the same exact thing

the thought of multiple cold snaps is terrifying, i didn't realize it could trigger twice

This is a group of raiders who huddled together, for warmth maybe, before more or less freezing to death in some god forsaken corner of the map i'll never be able to get the loot from.

If you can't handle these type of conditions, then maybe you shouldn't try to play them?

Why should I waste my medkits on crashlanders when they ALWAYS just walk away instead of joining me?

Why use medkits at all? They walk away because you arrest them.

psst

take them prisoner instead of rescuing them

they'll have a HUGE recruit bonus

Dont you die on me!

It can be, because he's trying to make a base in hell.

Mere physical laws don't hold sway here.

>Right Click
>Capture

The only advantage to rescue is if the person sucks and is related to one of your colonist, so their mood would crash if you let them die.

The Spacer faction doesn't have any effects, so you can arrest them with no problem.

Same thing with the people that get out of the old cyrocyrpts guarded by mechanoids. You have to arrest them before they escape. (Make sure to beat the shit out of them with blunt objects if you want to recrut)

I can use cooler to warm things too right? Mine isn't working for some reason.

>Spacer faction
I thought it affected prices with merchant ships?

So any point in using animals as combat pets?
I have 3 wolves tamed and they're bonded to my hunter who trained them, but every time I use them in battle they can easily get killed which makes my hunter depressed, and I'd rather not deal with that for the effort I made taming them.

>come to work
>no boss, no collegues, nothing
>the only general I'm interested in is dying
>bored out of my mind

Jesus I wish I was on a rimworld harvesting raider organs right now.

They're really useless right now. Only useful for hauling.

This place isn't dying. It barely just started this month!

Maybe, but I don't think so. I've routinely captured them and haven't noticed them getting any higher.

Yeah, I just restrict bonded animals to inside the base, and un-master them from anyone when there's a raid so they won't try to protect anyone.

They are useful for hauling, yeah, that's it.

More active than a lot of other generals

Do you have a hole in your roof somewhere

We filled the last thread in a day, that's pretty active

>bugs appear in some mountain I mined not long ago
>they're pretty far from my base and I'm low on technology so I let them be
>they constantly mine that poor mountain
>corridors get widened and walls disappear non-stop
>after a while the whole thing starts collapsing onto them
>each day a few bugs and hives get crushed or sent into shock by the falling rubble
>with most of the roof gone now I can mortar their asses
>they are just in range, I keep bombing them for a few days
>fire spreads quickly and the few caverns that still have a roof become furnaces of death
>after turning half the map into a burning rubble. bug infestation is still going strong
>a few hives spawned north of their initial mountain so now they're doing small-scale skirmishes against my auto-turrets
>shoot them, burn them, bomb them but they keep coming

Shit is totally Starship Troopers up in here. I keep raiding them every second day but it always ends with me retreating and them gutting my pets. Fuck

Nice. Makes me want to play a scenario where a ton of those are already existant on the map and you gotta hold out.

So how do I deal with mud?

You don't
There's a pump to turn it into soil, but it requires a lot of research and takes ages to actually do shit

What? How does this even work? Aren't the turrets indoors and can't see anything outside?

Need bunker tips too, for both turrets and people. I don't know what's the proper way to weave sandbags with walls

W-W-S-W-W works pretty well, you can put guys on both sides of a sandbag behind walls and they get hueg cover bonuses

Thanks a lot bud

They are really good for a flanking specialist and if you give them bionic upgrades via mods. Ever seen a bionic warg pack sprint at 250% speed into a mortar encampment?

They are quite weak on their own since they are melee but animals like bears, rhinos and elephants are tanky enough that they can solo some enemies. Helps alot with bugs if you can keep the swarm off them.

They might be a mod thing, but those walls in the picture are "Shields", which are just upgraded sandbags.

Is this game fun? I started playing it and was having a blast. Then, I got disheartened when I saw how little there was for me to actually do. So, is this game actually fun? Should I get mods? I just feel like this game was made half-assed with the idea in mind that the players would pick up the baton with mods and shit.

The game is in the 14th version of the alpha friend. Get glitter tech, phi for talking to people, and CCL.

yes its fun
the game is in alpha right now
increase the difficulty and choose a different biodome, dont play on basebuilder difficulty with the easy storyteller.

Alright, I'll try these then.

Shit to try: Surviving in a extreme desert or artic biome.

Piss off every faction by arresting and converting travelers

Building a spaceship and escaping the planet.

Giving everyone power armor and charge rifles, loading up EMP grenades, mortars and defenses and survive big fucking raids.

Pissing everyone off sounds fun. I'll try these to. Thanks, anons.

Whatever difficulty you play on the bugs will spawn and fuck your shit up famalam.

You can never be ready for them
You can never be prepared
You just expect them.
And wish for a quick death.

>Make a cave room with cave floor, cave walls, 10x10.

>Build a killbox outside it with traps, turrets, ect. Blow the door open and f

>Put down different floors (even cement) on every other room, cover cave walls with a layer of stone or wood.

Every bug infestation will spawn in the prepared room unless you get careless. Just make sure your main base has no rooms that use natural floors and walls.
