Chebby SS

My parents are buying me a car as a grad gift. I wanted something fun, fast, but more or less a practical sleeper.

I was really looking into getting a Chevorlet SS. What does Veeky Forums think about these things? They're dirt cheap in my area, and we can easily haggle the dealership down.

Great, quality post my friend!

If theyre down get it, its the reincarnation of the e39 but the dealers leave some bump stops or whatever they're called on the suspension Springs so they drive like shit if they haven't removed em

>its the reincarnation of the e39

somebody watches vehicle virgins

never heard of it

Your parents are buying you a 30000 dollar gift because you didn't fail college?

This is why we need Bernie Sanders.

didn't VW have issues with dealers forgetting to remove those a few years back?

vwoa dealers can't do anything right

Bitter poorfags pls go

They're giving me a $30k gift because I repayed them by managing to get into college for free, and now that I'm graduated and already have a job I'll be able to repay my debt over time.

Kys berniebot

What do bump stops do anyways? Are they made for transporting the vehicle or something?

transporting, to keep the wear on suspension down

That's what I figured. How easy are they to remove, or can have the dealer remove them for me. Assuming they haven't removed them already.

>inb4 the Chevy SS troll

They're going to buy you a civic. Just fuck off.

Keep telling yourself that.

If it's the same thing as a Holden SS, then I'd say get it. They're pretty fun cars.

i dunno

Toyota Camry

They are IIRC. One of the models I was looking at has Holden badges on it as well.

Get that to be ultimate special snow flake in America. Rip skids knowing that your fellow Ausmen are ripping skids as well.

Is it that hard to believe? My parents are doing essentially the same thing. Sister got a new Mazda3 in high school, I'm getting 30k (what the Mazda cost) now that I'm graduating college.

What I'm doing with my 30k OP is a M2. It will probably be another 12 months before I see the car but my shitbox will last that long and will make the experience even better. Perhaps a bit excessive for someone a year or two out of school but it's a damn nice ride. With the 30k and what I've saved from summer internships/co-ops I have no problem making payments or just paying the thing off after a year or two.

Personally the SS is way too big of a car for me. If you have a family with kids it's a cool option but for me I just don't see any reason to have more than two doors. Definitely a unique choice though, can't fault you for it.

Fucking richfags. Must be nice having mommy and daddy buy you something that should be earned with sweat and hardwork.

It's irresponsible. Both of you just graduated so you could drive a shitbox and invest that money so it works for you. Or use it as a down payment on a house.

I'm going to repay them overtime on my own accord. I'll buy them nice cruises/gifts and just deposit a few thousand here and there into their account when I can. During high school my family was dirt poor, but my dad retired from the military and opened a business. My mother went back to school and found a nice secretary position at a law firm. You can make it bro.

I'm living with 2 other co-workers, and I currently drive them in our company car. But the company would cover mileage, gas, etc if I bought my own car. Plus I like having a Sedan in general.

Already drive one for my company. Slow, ugly, rides and feels like shit because it's a base model.

I already have investments.
>down payment on a house
Fuck no. I'm saving money by splitting a pretty large condo with 2 other guys until I can afford to live in a rural area and build my own home in the boonies.

Don't listen to this guy Buy what you want. You're young and can actually enjoy these cars now. It's the same reason I bought my IS350 after graduation. I got a decent job out of school and could afford it.

Go for it breh.

I have an SS and love it. Its hard to argue with the fun/utility factor and for a family man who likes to drive something fun I dont think theres a better choice.

That said given your age and short time in the working world, the car is pricey even if you get it for free. Insurance rates are getting crazy on them because even small accidents cost a fortune to fix and part lead time from Australia is painfully long. Compound that with people exploding them into telephone poles after NFL events and they get a bad wrap from insurance companies.

They also drink fuel like a sailor on shore leave. I get a solid 22 on a perfectly flat road at 65 with no head wind but the minute that changes or I decide to make use of the cars capabilities that number goes drops to single digits.

Finally as a word of caution the car is legitamately fast. Its a big sedan and it doesnt always seem as fast but physics dont care about feelings and if you drive like I used to drive at your age you are likely going to have a bad time.

So going back to the beginning its a great car and if I were you Id likely disregard all that I just typed and get one anyways because they are awesome.

They are for transportation to keep the front end up so it doesnt scrap on ramps. They are only used on the front springs and are supposed to be removed by dealers during the pre delivery inspection.

They are bright red on the 14s and 15s but were yellow on my 16. If your dealer is good and followed the sheet they will be in your trunk.

Get one op. I have always liked conformadores, but the image they have here has put me off. They are heavy, but they are fast as fuck and in the states nobody will know what it is.

They are also fantastic for skidz

Appreciate it lads.

Price and gas mileage are expected imho. Considering a C63 AMG was on the top of my list and my dad actually ushered me to get one, all things considered I'd rather have an SS for nearly half the price.

I hear that they're comfy even for a sports-oriented sedan. Is this true at all? Compared to the base model Camry I'm driving is all I care about.

slower than the M3

That's fine, I'm not in it entirely for speed either. I want something that's going to be enjoyable, I can track it, but it's primarily a daily driver. We do have the money for an M-series or AMG but I'd rather save the money.

Veeky Forums in a nutshell. Linking lap times on every thread when they drive a shitbox anyway

It's a RWD v8 sports sedan. it's reliable as fuck, looks about as comfy as most cars these days and isn't a bmw or some other stupid ass car that people parade all over this board

The only thing that i would be concerned about is the rear tires are bigger than the front. tires are expensive and without being able to rotate them they will wear fast as well but that shouldnt be something that concerns you.

You getting manual or auto?

>mad GM can't compete

No particular preference on transmission. I'd like a manual, but if I can get a good deal on a model with automatic I'll take it. They're pretty cheap cars either way, so I can probably get away with a sub-$30k manual version.

The particular one in question I'm looking at is new, has Holden badges in the mystic green, manual, and the price is marked "negotiable". Given it's a 2015 model, I can easily haggle them down pretty far.

The only problem with the VF is the interior is horrible.

In tour mode the SS rides softer than my ATS with magride did. Some of that is likely due to the longer wheelbase though. Its a good cruiser in tour. Sport, perf and track wont jar you too bad but youll feel crappy roads for sure

Im assuming youre looking at used as theres no way you will get a 2016 anywhere near 30k. 45 would be a great price on a 2016. The cheapest new 2015 ive seen was 38500. And anything under 30 is probably a 14 without the magride. Any used sS has been beat on so be sure to check it out. I would likely check the SS forum as the ones there for sale were likely taken better care of.

If you want a new 2015 manual you are out of luck. Last i saw there were only like 2 in the entire country still available. The 2016 manuals will go quick once GM does 0 percent financing again.

That's fine, I'll look around, but I might just end up and getting a new one. I'm not interested in financing right now, I'd rather just pay cash.

Thanks though.

Have you thought about a G8?

Yeah, but Pontiac is a dead brand. I'd rather have something new anyways if I'm getting a free car. If it were my money, I'd probably opt for one.

>but Pontiac is a dead brand
so?

Reincarnation of a shitty old BMW? It's a commodore you idiot

do eeeeet

I'd do unspeakable things for one of those

>OP gets mad car for graduating
>Mfw I came home that night and my shit was all over the front yard, drunk as fuck alcoholic degenerate dad told me "get the fuck out now" and pointed his loaded shotgun at me, had nowhere else to stay.

Do it. They are awesome.
