Sadly BMW has totally dropped the ball these last few years, especially with their M card, and their competition has caught up with them. Your friend's M4 is far from slow, but it's not much faster than an M2, Camaro SS, Cayman S, ATS-V coupe, or Shelby GT350, all of which are cheaper and probably more fun to drive.

They’re a tradeoff between performance and comfort. They’re more practical and pleasant to be in than any of the cars you mentioned, but still good performers. And they have reasonably-sized windows.

In recent years they're more lux than sport, though. Which is fine; unless you track your car it's probably more useful to have a nice car than a fast one.

As a BMW driver, the interior is nice but nothing to write home about. Leather isn't standard, materials are just ok. Audi and other competitors in the segment have higher quality materials, although personally I think the actual design/interior appearance is still pretty high tier for BMW

I know exactly how you feel man. I've been test driving cars for lulz recently and I can't believe how shit the new 340i is. It's super numb. To the point where I'm convinced that reviewers still saying it's the top of the entry sports sedans are paid off by BMW. It's so bad that there's no way you could accidentally place it above other cars like the XE or IS350 or ATS. The only new BMW that actually felt decent was the M235i.

I agree. OP here again. I drove the 340i recently...Same friend told me how amazing it was. It was terrible honestly. Tons of turbo lag, poor feedback in the steering, awful sounding fake exhaust piping through the speakers--as far as I know you can't shut it off--, and it felt like it was made for someone who has never driven a fast car and would get in trouble without all the nanny bullshit baked into the electronics.

BMW just isn't making driver's cars anymore. They seem to be targeted at idiots who think they want to go fast.

No they don't. The whole point of ///M cars is that they don't have gaudy styling, yet they are still high performance cars. If some normie thinks his Camaro is faster than your Beemer that's fine - unless, of course, it actually fucking is faster, or so close that it doesn't matter.

The problem with modern ///M cars (and most modern BMWs) is that they not longer live up to their reputation or price tag in terms of performance.
