I don't really know what betting thing you're talking about. I've never actually played cs:go, I just assumed they had keys+crates like tf2 and then you sold them on the market if you didn't want it.

You're technically not wrong that tf2 has unlocks that you can hypothetically buy. I honestly think it's valve's fault for even having the store open for that kind of stuff, but even then, new players have the option to use the weapon for like a 2 week period as a "trial" and by then they should have gotten like ~15 item drops that they can then trade for /at least/ 15 weapons that they want.

I agree if you were to start in the game now it'd be confusing, but it's very open. Overwatch's system isn't.

Plus, assuming they don't want to wait the week or so it'd take to get relevant items, they could just go the way of buying a single key for (at maximum) 2.50, then trading that for every single weapon in the game twice over, with enough left over for like 5 hats. That's actually what people have been asking for, is a way to just directly (or I guess, indirectly) buy the items.
