I'm heavier, taller and ride more aggressively. But not 23% more fuel-aggressive. Soon I'll have replaced air filter/sparkies/done valve clearance/synched carbs/adjusted air:fuel ratio. Should that fix it? If it doesn't, do the carbs need to be taken apart?

I've found a '09 KLR asking $3200. This would be my very first bike. It's ten hours away, though he said would meet me halfway. (Five hours for me there and then five hours back.)

My concerns:

I'm 5'7" and he says he has a lowering kit for it. I want a dual sport bike that is good for mostly commuting and then weekend warrior stuff - logging roads mostly. KLR isn't the "best" bike on paper, but a lot of people seem to like them and I think my riding style (more casual, sight seeing) would be well suited for it.

How do you guys go about buying a bike that is so far away?
