Hey Veeky Forumsttomen, I need some advice.

>guy selling '91 MR2 for $2500
>engine was replaced 5 years ago through with a low mileage one from Japan
>about 90k on the chassis
>only a couple thousand miles on the new engine cuz the guy let it sit in his driveway for almost all that time, under a cover at least
>took it to a mechanic
>clutch needs replacing, battery needs replacing
>~$1100 for parts+labor

Other than that, it's good, it runs, and needs a general tune up and plus whatever happens to it when it actually starts being driven. Is it worth it?

>N/A SW20

not a good deal unless it's a legit BEAMS

is it a red top?

also how's smog requirements in your state? JDM engines can have trouble passing smog

Forgot to mention its a turbo. And I'm in Alaska, and from what I recall the don't do emissions here.

BEAMS? Red top?

>not a good deal unless it's a legit BEAMS

Nah, fuck off, as long as it has any 3SGE then it's a great car.

those are variations on the N/A engine in Japan

but since you have a turbo it's a different story

I'd say go for it but these cars do not do well in ice or snow
I hope it's not rusted out

Thanks man. I'm im southeast AK, so we get a lot more rain than snow or ice, generally speaking. I'll have to do some further searching for rust, but the mechanic didn't mention anything about it.

Do you have any ideas on what possible damage might show up after driving something that's been off the road for a few years?

you will snap oversteer like a motherfucker in the rain

it's basically a baby rasekar, you need to track it or drive on twisties to actually enjoy it

>you will snap oversteer like a motherfucker in the rain

Isn't 91 the Rev 2 already?
They fixed the suspension on those to be more controllable.

no that's late 1993 and on

I own a 1991 turbo and it's pretty edgy

>I'm in Alaska, and from what I recall the don't do emissions here.

you know you have to be 18 to post on this jdm rim swapping forum?

how the fuck do you not know if the state you live in does inspection?

no all mr2 will snap overmeme into a meme

Military, just got here like 6 months ago

Depends on location. Anchorage just got rid of their emissions testing a few years back. Even if they did you say you live on base or get your plates done in Wasilla and you get off scott free.

No emissions in Fairbanks either.

dont get one they're really shitty cars, such shit handling really dangerous best to get something else you will be disappointed with how shit it is.

I do this too to keep the MR2 market sensible and prices low.

what do you do?

Discourage Veeky Forumstists from buying them up and crashing/molesting them.

Yep, that's why I recommend Mustangs

they do alright with proper tires.

Thanks for all the input guys, got him to drop the price down to $2200 because of the repairs.

I'd offer him $1,800 since you have to do that work to it. Then when you get more money do an LS swap and have fun.

Damn good deal if those are the only issues

Better add a water pump to the list.
