What are Veeky Forumss thoughts on a '07 Audi TT 3.2 quattro?
I'm looking for a fun car to drive that's reliable and doesn't require modifications to be moderately fast. Although I know a TÜV inspector quite well, getting shitboxes on the road or upgraded with aftermarket parts is a nightmare in Germany.
There's not many possible choices for small money, one of them is the aforementioned Mk.2 TT 3.2 quattro.
I found one with just under 100kkm for 12.7k€ in very good condition, but with beige interior. If I wanted black seats I'd have to live with almost twice the mileage at that price.
>The quattro isn't the QUATTRO, but the VW Golf AWD, so does it understeer like a Golf? >The N/A 3.2l engine is ancient, is it enough to make the 1485kg not feel pigfat? >The platform is the same as the Golf Mk.5 and Audi A3, albeit heavily modified, is the TT too close to a Golf to be fun? >What should be the max mileage to look for, when do the expensive repairs set in?
I know that the DSG is a magnet for problems, but I'm looking for stick shift anyway, so that's none of my concerns.
What are my alternatives for under 15k€ that are available in Germany and affordable in terms of maintenance, insurance and tax. It also can't be a roadster for reasons that'd take too long to explain.
Just buy a FWD 2.0 senpai. It's 200kg lighter, more economical, cheaper to fix and the V6 is barely quicker anyway.
Matthew Robinson
I already have a boring 2.0 FWD econobox.
Chase Bell
>The quattro isn't the QUATTRO, but the VW Golf AWD, so does it understeer like a Golf?
Ther is no QUATTRO AWD System.
QUATTRO is a marketing term.
They sell many different systems under this name.
And yes the TT has a shitty Haldex system.
Logan Cox
>What are my alternatives for under 15k€ that are available in Germany and affordable in terms of maintenance, insurance and tax. Celica T23 TS
Very cheap and affordable. Very fun to drive. Usable as DD. Usable in Winter. Just not very fast.
Hunter Hill
>And yes the TT has a shitty Haldex system. So you know what I mean. Basically every other Audi labeled quattro has a nifty longitudinal differential.
Chase Gutierrez
fit a haldex controller and it's significantly less shit as it'll be locked 50-50. these guys are making an LSCD conversion and getting rid of the Haldex altogether so you could do that too. johnmitchellracing.co.uk/
Gavin Gomez
R8, A3, S3 and S1 have transverse systems. But R8 has viscous coupling instead of haldex.
Camden Watson
Just buy an E46 M3 or 330i? Or something correct wheel drive? Audis are mostly shit.

Hairdresser/faggot/constructer side lover's car
plus
A rebadged VW. Parts bin car.
Shit car in all aspects.
Daniel Richardson
R8 isn't transverse. In fact it might be haldex, the Veyron is.
Juan King
Funny you mention that, I was almost born in a '90 Celica, great car, unlike todays mom-cars. Can't find any decent Celicas in my area, the 2ZZ-GE version might aswell not exist and the others are riced the fuck out.
>Just buy an E46 M3 Starting at 17.5k€ at 170kkm. I've been looking into 330i, but I read something about 1660kg and everyone I know who's ever had an E46 had nothing but problems with everything about it.
>Hairdresser/faggot/constructer side lover's car Quite rich coming from the board that loves miatas.
Landon Jackson
Ford Sierra Sapphire Cosworth
William Martinez
i meant the 2.0 TT, but whatever
Colton Young
But is a car based on a 2.0 Golf really an upgrade from a car similar to a 2.0 Golf.
Blake Martin
>2ZZ-GE version might aswell not exist Well there are only ~1000 in germany. You have to look for them. I had one. Fun little car.
Jonathan Allen
>In fact it might be haldex Its not. R8 uses a pure mechanical system.
Adam Jenkins
So the R8 has absloutely no electronic control over it's torque split? Fucking hell, Porsche and Nissan had that in the fucking 80s
Cameron Martinez
3 Cosworth Fords in my area. There's a riced out Sierra at 270kkm here. Also 2 Escorts for 38k€ and 57.8k€
The front wheels are only driven when the rear wheels are spinning. Can't compare it to GT-Rs or AWD Porsches anyway.
Charles Hall
At least the Miata war born to be what it is. On the contrary the TT is a bastardization made from left over parts from other cars.
Luis Young
>Is a pigfat haldex golf really any different
Carter Young
>that's reliable
Stay away from the TT then.
Guy I know bought one brand new around '04, after 30000km it needed a new turbo. He got rid of it shortly after and bought a 911.
They're shit.
Xavier Brown
Shit like that can happen to any car really. The N/A V6 is a sturdy engine as far as I know.
Brayden Powell
get a copy of evo magazine, it has a database of cars in the back that's good for jogging the memory if you're struggling to think of an old car to buy. A fwd shitbox like a 306GTI is or something is nice and cheap to run and will be fun to drive on back roads if you like that kind of thing. You can also do some mods to it and still be TUV approved as a lot of stuff is already marked or is impossible for them to spot.
Ryan Reed
I can think of dozens of old cars, that's not the problem. I'm not looking for an old car and especially not a shitbox. If I could get a 2nd car, I would, then I'd just get whatever nice rustbucket I can find and work on it. There's this beat up '97 Nissan S14 I've seen, but sadly it has to replace my daily driver. I can't drive around in what others might call a project car.
I don't need a GTi, I already have a lukewarm hatchback.
Christopher Gutierrez
>I don't need a GTi, I already have a lukewarm hatchback. Oh fuck me, now I've found a 106 GTi, 140kkm, 3k€, lots of new parts, brakes, rear axle, wheel bearings, dampers. Just half an hour from here and in my favourite color.
Can't find one without a Need for Speed bodykit under 20 grand, they're too rare over here. That's one of the options I've been actively looking for for a while.
Josiah Powell
two words: de rice
Elijah Thomas
350z then ?
Jack Mitchell
>reliable
Josiah Evans
No worse than a fucking Audi.
Leo Sullivan
>I learnt everything I know about cars through memes
Adrian Diaz
>Need for Speed bodykit Thought it was compared to the honda But yeah neither should audi be considered when its about reliability
Cameron Johnson
How the fuck did I quote the need for speed shit. I never did.
Carson Bennett
shitboxes with crap build quality. if you must buy a vag product look at a porche boxter or cayman instead. nope big and slow. needs bigger engine to make it get off its arse
Jordan Lewis
Actually a Porsche is a great suggestion. First gen Boxsters are cheap as fuck because of the (overblown) IMS issue, and they're great cars. Parts shouldn't be much of a problem in Germany either.
Michael Bennett
That shit's 1.6 tons. Also, I know someone who had one and I've been in it back then and it did not feel like 280 bhp, closer to 200. And he's sunk fucktons of money into parts like brakes. Caymans are too expensive and the boxster is a roadster. I'm also scared of the possible parts cost.
Jeremiah Myers
It's a second car, right? At least test drive a Boxster.
Xavier Russell
>It's a second car, right? No it's gonna be the daily driver. I'd rather not test drive a Boxster, I'd end up wanting to get one, but can't.
Gavin Turner
>Caymans are too expensive and the boxster is a roadster. I'm also scared of the possible parts cost. you sound like an idiot right now tbf lad
Joseph Gomez
350 zed goes lots better with a LS swap.
caymans are basically boxter with a roof. yes at the least test drive a boxter, hasnt got all the hurr durr factor of a 911 but will be a lot more fun that audi TT ever was. porsches also has longer service intervals than the other german brands
Benjamin Edwards
>350 zed goes lots better with a LS swap. That's really difficult in Germany. Keep in mind where OP lives.
Mason Cook
yes i get that the german TUV is really anal. but can always get converted in usa or UK
Logan Bennett
Still has to pass TÜV inspection to be registered in Germany.
Xavier Green
>buy Nissan >ship it to the US >swap in V8 >ship it back to Germany Is this your suggestion? All that to create a 2 ton ugly Nissan that's decently fast?
Josiah Howard
no buy nissan in usa convert in usa send to germany. all in one trip not back and forwards
