The IP can be used toward multiple audience, especially those released as non-canon spin-offs. There's just profit to it.
There's no such thing as that Drama CDs targeting male can mean the main franchise is also this way.
The mainline games are just terrible for self-inserting, but they still get many males fans who later will be able to satisfy themselves with spin-off products. It's really not much of a negative thing.
