I think how it was meant to go was Stands were originally going to be an evolution of the Ripple (the original name was "Ghostly Ripple") but Araki later retconned it, dropping the Ripple entirely and focusing on Stands as their own thing.

Anecdotal, but gay people tend to be some of the meanest people I ever tend to meet. The ones I've met in real life are always hyper critical of everyone around them, and react poorly to any criticism of their work.
