IMO Pontiac were the only ones not fucking it up in the 80s/90s. Too bad the brand is dead and buried, would love to see a new Firebird based on the same platform as the Camaro.

Except the V8 engine made 205 hp at the crank on 89 octane. For comparison, a grocery getter 1993 Camry (last year of the foxes) made 185 running 87.

That was the third gen F-bodies. OP included a fourth gen in the OP (for some reason, given that it's a full generation later than the other two cars), which had the LT1/LS1 mated to a T56 6-speed if you wanted from the factory.

The 1994+ SN95 cars were still on the Fox body platform. Everything mechanical is either interchangeable or an upgrade for the 79-93 cars

Ford brought back the Mustang spirit in 2005.

Dodge brought back a proper muscle car look in 2008.

Chevrolet was the one to finally put the "Muscle" back in "Muscle Car" in 2010.

Well, the Fox body Mustang was supposed to die in 1988 and be replaced by a FWD Mustang. When Ford announced this around 1985/1986, there was a letter writing campaign against it. Ford was INUNDATED with well over a hundred thousand letters within weeks telling them how retarded an idea this was.
The problem then was money. Ford had spent a LOT of money on the 1986 Taurus and the FWD Mustang project and were on the verge of bankruptcy. The Taurus sales saved Ford, and the FWD Mustang was released, as planned, in 1988 as the Ford Probe.

From 1988, Ford then went to make a new RWD Mustang, but being so low on cash, they had to rely on the fox body platform again.

The 2005-2014 Mustang uses a modified variant of the Lincoln LS and 2000's Ford Thunderbird chassis.

2015+ is an all new chassis.

The only limiter on the Taurus SHO was the RPM limiter. The V6 was capable of revving to 10k, but Ford wasn't so sure about all the accessories like the alternator or A/C compressor being able to take that kind of RPM.
