Why do I need your LED map lights?

My car has mostly LED lighting, however the overhead lights for both front and rear (yes, I have lights for the rear passengers too) are incandescent for their psychological and visual warmth. There are MULTIPLE bulbs so there is no need for a single extra bright bulb in each location. This gives a much more gentle warm light and because they are faded in and out, it is a genteel feeling that goes well with the LED lights everywhere else in the car. Clearly, the designers could have put LED on everything, but I am glad they deliberately considered pschological design concepts for the very few places non-LED lights were used.

While some people use unsafely glance at maps while driving, the car has built-in GPS that is operable by voice, tactile feedback on its 8 inch touchscreen in the dash, or even commanded by app. I can also call for help via Onstar if the GPS in the car is not enough and a mapping specialist will guide me thru the car's speakers as I drive. The operator knows where I am due to GPS and can tell me what to do.

If you're driving at night with map lights on, the police (and everyone else) can see everyone in the car. Importantly, he can see the driver is doing something other than driving and give you a ticket for distracted driving. You technically are not supposed to be reading a map, book, or texting while driving. They are all ticketable offenses and the map light certainly lets everyone else on the road know you are doing it.

Haven't gotten around to it. Fuck paying like $10-$25 for them at auto parts stores.

I don't know where to get one without buying a whole unit, a working unit costs over 500€ and a broken one is hard to find. It was missing when I bought the car, previous owner likely broke it, had to reflow the solders on the control board anyway to get the damn thing working again.

If anyone knows where to get a button like that for under 50€ in europe, tell me. For now I wait for a friend to be able to 3D-print something like that.

Anyways, lights can be practical. Someone I know mounted some warm 2700k LEDs on the bottom of his driver and passenger doors. They shine light on the ground so that you can see and avoid stepping in gunk before getting into the car. Those LED are those 1/4 inch ones with the domed tops. He sanded the tops flat and then buffed them smooth so that they didn't protrude above the vary narrow lip of each individual LED's retaining mount at the bottom of the door. Of course he had to drill small holes for those mounting clips and he put a little bit of bathroom silicon sealant on the inside of the retaining clip so no water leaks in at that spot.

I was planning on improving the interior lights on my E30 with them, but then the shitty plastic piece holding the connector broke as I was removing them. Now all I have to work with is the cigarette tray lights

I opted to use SiriusLED's 194 LEDs for map lights. Simple install.

is this the tuning general?

I should also add that I love them, they're really bright and a great solid white color.
user, you're pretty dumb. Why even have them on? The main reason I put them in is for when I unlock my car or open my door. Looks a lot better but IF I need to read something, I'm not going to do it at 50 MPH, I'll likely do it at a light which is not a ticketable offense.

Yeah it's easy to be overshadowed in a thread. After I bought my c5 I'm mainly on corvetteforum only. With f bodies, everything has been done three times over and there's 20 write ups on a good idea you thought you had. Lots of good info though once you sort through it

Must've gotten shitty LEDs. They usually have longer lifespan than regular bulbs.
