If you're on defense and the round hasn't started, just leave. 9/10 times defense is a guaranteed loss, which is 500 xp you're not going to get. The only exception to this rule is if you backfill into defense, as backfilling gives you 80 percent of the xp for a win (400 xp).

You can also group for more xp, but I don't have friends so I just solo it

I just said fuck it, because the season is about to end and I wanted those guaranteed competitive points at least. First few games didn't look too good, had a leaver on my team and a trolling premade. Placed 61 after going 8-2, since all of my other teams were decent to pretty good, only had one other match with a flamer, but that went alright because we beat them in the first round pretty hard.
Even if you are afraid of playing ranked, really do it at least for the rewards. After those 10 games you should feel a bit more comfortable too.
