Why do manuals have to die?

Why do manuals have to die?
Why aren't there more people into driving cars?

In the old world it's 95% manuals, so i have no idea what you are talking about.

the old world also figured out to put turn lanes everywhere that makes sense, in the new world there's still places where even one car making a left can cause congestion and manuals and congestion don't make for enjoyable driving

People are getting into the "Luxury" part of it these days. Nothing luxury about driving a manual. I'm sure back in the day people like you were bitching "Why do horses have to die? Why aren't there more people into riding horses?"

Progress.

Also, while I love manual and they're fun, I'd much rather drive an automatic for 6+ hours than a manual. It gets to be annoying after a point.

>6+ hour drive
>probably only highway
>only in top gear, don't have to shift
I don't see the problem.

You're missing the point

>only outdated garbage is driving

shit mem

why?

If you'cant cope with driving a stick then there is another test for morons or the disabled ( not necessarily the same group) where they get to try for an auto licence which limits you to auto.

OT put a Collie Dog in a touring car with that setup.

Dunno what you're tripping about.

Even porsche is coming back to manual.

Manuals are making a comeback with the millennial generation. I'm 22, most of my friends can drive a stick. Hence why car manufacturers are producing so many boy racer models that only come with a manual option.

I went there, I have to do this.

Sorry.

shitboxes have always been manual

>mfw every shitbox you're thinking of is still much faster than your car

people, especially americans, don't like learning how to drive.

just look at big car culture in north america.
>It's just safer if you wreck
>people respect your space
all code for
>even though I'm on the road I shouldn't be because I don't want to put effort into this thing I'm doing every day

Cars are getting harder and harder to get into and it's gradually just becoming more of a necessity rather than a pastime or hobby. Plus driving manual is harder for something the average joe perceives as non-beneficial compared to automatic.

Also anyone can drive automatic which means more sales. There are a shitload of ditzy soccermoms and babyboomers who barely have the hand eye coordination to drive, let alone drive manual.

nice irrelevant shitpost

manualfags are cancer

O really please tell me how they are quicker than my car

Nice irrelevant butthurt post.
>comes into manual thread

I havent shitposted

stop getting mad and projecting you child

Oh yay a one-off $180,000 manual car, the comeback will be huge.

He's really not. I drive my manual on my 3 hour drive home each weekend and it's great. I drive an auto to work during the week.

HAHAHA
>he thinks his old GT lolcantturn machine is fast

It's a 13. It turns just fine. Matter a fact it's as fast as a M3 of the same yr around the track.

>Implying it won't demolish 99% of cars on the road in terms of sheer acceleration
>Can't turn meme

who is this perfect angel

>in terms of sheer acceleration
Because they can't turn.

I found it years ago in a hot mugshot thread

I like manuals.

Would marry 64-65.

im in love

Can't turn huh watch this motortrend test.

They're not dying just very limited because nobody buys them.

>Why do manuals have to die?

It's the fault of the end user. Paddle shifters are ultimately controlled by a computer, which makes them much harder to damage by being an idiot, which leads to fewer warranty claims.

Electric cars are going to be taking over. Probably what would be taking over are those paddle shifter on the steering wheel

>Drove Non stop no breaks 10hours a day 5-6 days a week and then lucked up friends and drove more while high

>never ever got tired of clutch in change gear

>drove in San Francisco the entire time
I really don't think u fags actually like driving stick I think u just like saying u do when ur car goes fast

>haha u cant drive manual??
>you arent a true car guy!! Fucking LOSER POSER

I think manuals are making a comeback. More and more I hear young people talk about manual transmissions and wanting to drive stick.

I don't know if it's because of hipsterism or not though.

Oh, were you in the market for a 911 Turbo S or GT3 RS but decided against it because you couldn't get a stick shift? I bet you can't even afford a manual boxster.

Turn right into crowds of bysanders.

Because technology advanced, automatics started becoming cheap and reliable to produce, and computers shift faster than humans.

Do I find manuals fun? Yes. Will I keep driving manuals until they die? Yes. Will I be upset if they're all replaced by faster DCTs and CVTs? No.

I don't actually think about it any more

You guys get all autistic and benchracey when a car goes around a track a second slower than it's competitor, yet you're all obsessed with having a slower transmission. I thought you guys were all about the lap times?

Veeky Forums is all about the shitposting

Technically if you trained someone from infancy daily in muscle memory and training exercises they could shift a manual more efficiently than an automatic if the shifts were connected to muscle reflexes instead of a stick.

One acronym: DCT.

I wish I could buy another manual but the next truck I want was only offered as an auto.

I've never cared for stick shift cars. They just aren't my thing.

I've driven a few manuals in the past and I don't like how long it takes to engage the gear and get moving. I like to zip around and move when I want to move.

With manual you have to re-engage 1st gear every time you stop. And that probably takes me a good 3-5 seconds. With auto you just step on it and you're gone.

You can also tell when you're behind somebody with a manual car because in the time it takes them to engage the gear and start accelerating, everybody in front of them is already gone. And every time you want to upshift you have to let off the gas, clutch in, shift, and re-engage the next gear, causing you to slow down and possibly disrupt traffic behind you. Not to mention trying to start on hills and whatnot.

Manuals just seem so antiquated in my opinion. They feel slower and less responsive compared to modern-day automatics. I don't really understand the fascination behind them, automatics take only a fraction of a second to upshift whereas a manual takes like 2-4 seconds to upshift (depending on experience or skill level, of course).

Even though you have more "control" over which gear you want to be in, it takes longer to shift and engage the gear than it would in an automatic. Most modern automatics are also pretty intuitive and are able to sense what you're trying to do depending on throttle input and the speed at which the throttle is applied.

Whenever people talk about how much they enjoy manual, I don't understand why. In my opinion, it's kind of a pain in the ass how you have to do all that work to get moving and the guy next to you in the automatic is already gone. Like, why would you row a boat when you could get one with a motor on the back for the same price.

What makes a manual car enjoyable? Maybe some people also think it makes them look "tough", or like they are a professional driver, but speaking from my experience manuals seem like a big pain in the ass.

>Statatory Rap
>Incest
I get the first being a crime but the second.

If this wasn't pasta, it is now.

Not a chance. Even an old fashioned sequential with a clutch has shift times in the milliseconds. Modern dual clutches are close to 0ms shift times with no loss of power. Your muscles simply can't move that fast.

Because now the younger crowd cares more about how the car looks and how they look in the car, rather than how fun it is to drive.
And this is an exclusively American problem.

>manualfags are cancer
Comes to automotive board, gets mad about automotive centric thing.

nice meme

rollin

maybe in fatland

in Australia and Europe manuals are extremely common. Everyone I know drives a manual. I had no idea they were 'dying'.

They're dying in civilized and relevant countries. How's that ADSl and expensive gas treatin' ya' M8?

In the civilized world were being forced to buy overweight pseudo luxury econoboxes with automatics.

manuals arent dying its just that americans like to think they are the center of the universe

rollin

my next car will be a manual

You're just like those people who don't buy manuals because they might drive through 5 minutes of traffic on their commute.

Just admit that you're a pussy and can't drive manual, no reason to lie about it.

I don't give a shit about manual unless it's a sports car and manual is available in just about every sports car.

>$150360 bond
holy shit f'am

I love contributing to the death of manuals. Hell I drive a CVT I'm even contributing to the death of gears. Feels real good.

I'm sorry user, but I hope you know that everyone who read through that conversation can tell you are the butthurt one.

>civilized and relevant
That's what amerikansky actually believe

In North America a manual is perceived as a performance option. In Europe it's an economical option.

Excluding the extreme low end, it becomes more common for a vehicle to be specced with a manual as the price rises in North America. The opposite is true in Europe: it doesn't make sense to people there to get a high-dollar car with a manual since manuals are for econoboxes.

>tfw local Mazda dealership won't offer manuels anymore

>they haven't looked at Honda's website yet
the 2016 Civic will only come with a manual transmission as a base model car. The highest trim will be CVT/Auto only.
They also added leather to the lineup, but you have to conveniently let go of a 6-speed gearbox to possess such a thing.
The Accord (counting the coupe and sedan as the same model because trim levels don't change) offers only a traditional automatic with the V6 option and I believe manual is an option on two of the trims, one of them being base model.

>They also added leather to the lineup, but you have to conveniently let go of a 6-speed gearbox to possess such a thing.
Or, you know, buy leather seats

In NA, plenty of cars come with the manual as the economic (lower cost) option. Only perhaps Ford with the Focus/Fiesta have mannual as a performance option

leather package is more than Jose's weight redo job.

also, acura doesn't offer any manual gearboxes at all in their lineup.
I get that it's one company, but Hondabois are kind of a thing, and now it's pretty obvious their interest is shifting away from Hondabois, which as nice as it sounds, is going to likely be bad for the rest of the car scene as a whole.
Honda could very well afford to lose a bit of money catering to the select few overall a bit more than necc, but they chose not to (or more specifically, to stop). I wouldn't make any long term predictions, but it's both depressing and worrying.
If you can't reliably find civics on the road to hoon with, why even bother looking harder?

post feels when
>you will be alive when the only option to get a new car with a manual transmission will be an MX-5.

>tfw want to buy Manuel car
>don't know how to drive stick
>no way of learning hands on

I can learn from videogames right? Just pop in a ps2 game and buy a racing wheel with a shifter

It's not progress. You're still getting there just as quickly. It's a paradigm shift and nothing more. If you think auto vs manual on public roads has an objective solution, you're wrong. It's fucking culture.

Yes, a top of the line auto will be faster around the track, but you're not driving on the track, now are you? If you were, you definitely wouldn't have some harness and cage free car claiming to be safe.

Try playing maximum tune in the arcade

He's right though. Not to mention that it sells for way above msrp and no one will drive them the way they were meant to because porsche just makes boutique cars for old men.

here's your (you)

Manual transmissions are seen as an enthusiast accessory these days and most people who buy new cars get automatics because they're simply easier to drive.

Get good.
Serious, not even memeing. I daily drive a manual in LA and never had a single issue you mentioned.
Only get auto if your car isn't a sports car. (Sub supercars, ultra performance cars) but even then...

I've driven automatic for 10 years. Why do you faggots have a problem with that? Are your meds not helping you enough with that autism?
