Also, I'm excited for Civ6 mostly because Ed Beach is working on it, just as I was excited when I heard he was working on the Civ5 expansions. Civ4 is still my favorite game of all time, and it would take miracles for Civ6 to surpass it, but Ed Beach has also made some favorite boardgames of mine, so I generally trust what he can do.

Also I'm convinced that the whole Age of Exploration theme and Catherine de Medici for France was his idea, since both of the great board games he made were from around that era

Next patch will let you set rules for the game, essentially meaning you can have all the dlc installed but still 'turn off" certain features if you want

Get CK2+ or HIP. I don't use HIP but I presume it attempts to fix the things the devs destroy, CK2+ is somewhat good with the council and they're not always retarded.
Also if you make a custom ruler, you get instant full control over council by default
The only thing that remains fucked is shattered retreat (just turn it off in defines) and automatic alliance calling and problems establishing them to begin with which is still fucked.

No Quitters is a good balance patch, really opens up the policy trees more as well as somewhat equalise the more extreme civs, plus it has its own Steam group for consistent MP games.

Enhanced UI is exactly what it sounds like. Worth checking out for sure.

my friend and I bought RoN when the remastered edition or whatever was released on steam

we've been playing AoE2 pretty much since it was released, we used to play RoN and Empire Earth back in the day too.

So we played RoN together on moderate difficulty against 2 AI just to get back into the game. I still have fucking PTSD from that match, moderate difficulty my hairy ballsack.

RoN always feels like the ages just go by way too fast. Warfare before the gunpoweder age is basically non-existant because everybodys just racing to get away from melee units.
And then there's always that one chucklefuck with a hundred nukes that triggers Armageddon for shit and giggles.

I can't stand the limit cap on that game.

And I could never play it online because "it's being fixed" my ass, it's never been fixed since.

this was my problem with it, even tried setting the gameplay speed to slower, but it slowed every aspect of the game (I thought it'd just make techs take longer to research for some reason)

Yeah, needing techs to increase the pop limit was quite irritating, especially after years of playing AoE where you just build houses for pop limit

I still like the game, don't get me wrong. My friend and I still play it every other weekend, but there are definitely some balancing issues.

I was more talking of the ressource cap. The thing is is always blinking and requires you to sink an insane amount of ressources in it to get even more ressources.

And while I do like the game too (especially all the cities-centered mechanisms), I really do prefer its sequel, Rise of Legends.
A shame it's a Microsoft game, it doesn't run on any recent PC.

Ethnic units requires the deletion of the WW1 Infantry file content for it to work with CBP. Maybe there is a similar undocumented issue between Ethnic units and JFD's Exploration mod. I wish there was a way to know for sure. I'm not just going to start deleting files at random every time I crash.
