Back in the day it was a monster, no doubt. It's dual clutch was among the fastest and the car itself was very fast because of this. They had to cut corners by using heavier metals and cheaper interior materials so it would be affordable. This isn't the case anymore in 2016. The GTR is spec'd at 100k+ now, this is 911 money. The 911 has a superior PDK system with a limitless launches, the same cannot be said about the frail transmission in the GTR. Anyways, GTR is a good halo car and impressive in the fact that it can compete with Porsche. The truth is, people spending 100k aren't looking at Nissans... and would prefer some luxury as well. Speed isn't everything, remember, you can always build a 10 second honda for 15k.

At what? The Aventador SV set a faster time around the ring than the GTR as well as the 918. They pretty much proved they can make faster machines than virtually anything out of Japan. they just don't seem to care about Lap times per dollar. either way the higher spec 911s seem to still outsell the GTR even at a higher cost.

They're primarily marketed towards people who are not tech-savvy and don't care if their 911 Turbo S is slower than the GTR. I mean there's nothing wrong with it. The GT3 GTR is faster around the ring.

Stock 2017 911 Carrera has 370 hp, does 0-60 in 4.4 seconds, retails for $90k. Get the PDK and Sport Chrono package and go 0-60 in 4 seconds flat.

The 2015 Turbo S retails for $183k, "only" $30k above the GTR NISMO.
