Why is Mercedes killing the AMG brand? Now they make C43s and 450 crossovers with AMG branding - that don't even have the "one man one engine" or anything special about them. Here in South Florida these toy cars are everywhere. AMG used to mean something - now it isn't anything special at all.
Why did Mercedes ruin the AMG brand? Is it just too profitable to not stick that badge on there?
Henry Long
Is Mercedes sticking the AMG badge on these cars or does AMG say "Yo guys, give us a wider range of models and engines to work on, so we can expand and make more profit to fund the next supercar"?
Mason Allen
Mercedes owns AMG, so, they drive what it goes on. I imagine the badge adds so much profitability that it is tempting to stick it on just about anything.
Now they make AMGs with main plant engines, like the v6 that is going in the c43. I'm sure it is a nice engine, but it isn't an AMG - and it isn't a special car.
They also make a GLE 450 AMG now with a similar story. See attached.
They may be working to fund a supercar, but, if they use the AMG brand for the supercar I think they are making a big mistake by tossing it on everything - diluting the brand.
Landon Roberts
People have been posing since the beginning of time Now Mercedes can profit off of it.
Cooper Lee
Yeah people (would and do still) buy the badges and put them on their 320s and 500s and shit. You could immediately tell it was a fake by the exhaust pipe for a long time - originally only the AMGs had dual exhaust the rest were just out the passenger side.
Landon Price
trashy sells these days

isn't this what BMW does by having an "M Package" as an option for most of their cars? Which is usually suspension tuning and/or different skirts, rear diffusers, bumper, etc?
pic is a 1.6L turbo with "M" in the name
Easton Smith
>diluting the brand Who fucking gives a shit
What "brand" is being diluted? How is it being diluted? Do you want exclusivity? It's a fucking Mercedes, not a Rolls Royce. Having said that even Rolls Royce are "diluting their brand" by introducing cheaper models so yuppies can buy the entry model and then strive for the higher models.
Same shit is going for AMG. Cheaper AMG models for people that want to get into the brand, then as they increase (as hoped by Mercedes) their earnings as time goes on, they'll trade up to the full-fat versions. And since more people will be owning AMG cars that means AMG has more brand exposure, meaning it makes more money, meaning we may get more progression and innovation within that brand. And many technologies found in AMG cars of old can be found in the baser models of Mercedes.
I'm not sure why you think this is a bad thing, other than some nebulous concept of exclusivity.
Cars are so cucked nowadays that I like AMG and BMW for making entry-level high performance cars so people that want a fast car with a bigger engine and some decent transmission alternatives to FWD, aren't completely priced out of the market by faggots like you wanting everything to themselves.
Zachary Young
>Mercedes owns AMG, so Well obviously, but Daimler branches are usually competing for work inside the corporation. I know first hand that at least 2 internal service providers for Daimler buses take every order they can get, even if they don't have the capacity to complete them, just to have the most workload inside the corporation.
It's a stupid Daimler thing really. So I'd assume AMG is ruining their own brand by trying to shell out more and more cars without really putting in the effort they'd have to in order for the cars to deserve the AMG badge. Then again, AMG is very proud and extremely strict about who they hire, so I don't even know anymore.
Nathan Clark
>I like AMG and BMW for making entry-level high performance cars except they cost a fucking fortune and are pretty fucking shit at being performance cars
Tyler Phillips
How much are those anyways? Are they as cheap as things like the ricer alternatives like Genesis, BRZ etc.? Or
Landon Lopez
You do know C43s were a thing, don't you?
AMG has always sold bodykits as well as power or complete cars.
Parker Price
You're a marketing man's wet dream lad
Landon Torres
It's a lot better though because they don't put the M badge on the car - they just sell an M tuning/aesthetic kit. Yes it's a bit whorey but not as bad.
Exclusivity is one aspect, but most it is just lowering what AMG means. AMG should only be on the best Mercedes, not some v6 average crossover or boring sedan.
Further, all they are doing is taking a regular Mercedes engine and calling it an AMG. It's not made by AMG in Alfalterbach. It's all just a marketing ruse.
>AMG and BMW for making entry-level high performance cars so people that want a fast car with a bigger engine and some decent transmission alternatives to FWD They are charging a huge premium for these psuedo-AMGs. It's not like you are getting a deal or like it's a budget way to get into a high performance car. It's quite the opposite actually.
>So I'd assume AMG is ruining their own brand by trying to shell out more and more cars without really putting in the effort they'd have to in order for the cars to deserve the AMG badge. Well I think they are still trying super hard with offerings like the GT S and so forth, but the profitability push is to put AMG on higher volume cars.
A C450 AMG starts at 51,000 USD. It has a 3L v6. A GLE450 AMG starts at 65,000USD. Same 3L v6.
Sebastian Rogers
C36 and E34 too.
Dylan Baker
Who gives a fuck? All the AMG badge ever meant was a hopped up engine with little to no regard to handling.
Jose Barnes
Yeah, these new cars are sold as actual AMG models though.
Michael Rivera
Back in my day it was called Sportline

You can buy the AMG line design package for every normal Mercedes.
Brody Adams
BMW has been selling M Sport packages for fucking ever. But since the BMW naming scheme is M, it's not easy to confuse a 320i M Sport for a M3.
Eli Moore
The comment I replied to has the same naming schemegoing on with the:
GLE 450 AMG Coupe vs AMG GLE63
Hudson Barnes
You know this existed right?
C30 CDI AMG

German cars have always "cosat a fortune". Why would this be any different? Jeep GC SRT8 for example costs $65k, same as the GLE450 AMG. The Merc has a smaller engine and is 1 second slower to 62mph, but it's a Mercedes so the interior is going to be arguably a far nicer place to sit. For a $65k large-size SUV the GLE450's performance is still pretty respectable. I think increasing choice is a good thing. You know what faggots and libruls and socialists want? All cars to have small, efficient hybrid engines that fart glitter out the exhaust; cars that drive themselves because fuck you muh feels, muh road user/pedestrian safety; and certainly no fun allowed. Fuck your choice, carfag, everyone should drive a Prius! Capitalism is driven by marketing, but I don't give a shit about that. I give a shit about choice, and fun. Cars that have bigger engines with more than 4 cylinders, that go faster than their more mass-produced ilk, that are more visceral too, should be celebrated. Brand dilution is just a term "fans" (ones that don't even own the cars being diluted) throw around because the car featured as their desktop image might be bought by 500 more people, which ruins everything. They're not really charging a "huge premium"
Look at Audi. You have S cars, and RS cars. The RS brand was introduced way after the S brand was a thing. RS became the high-performance division of Audi's high-volume cars and S was relegated to basically be RS-lite. You aren't complaining about that shit, are you?
The shit you pay for an Audi S4 (a 3.0 supercharged V6) is the exact fucking same price you'd pay for a C43 AMG.
You've been able to buy AMG-line models since the 80s. Same goes for BMW M and Audi S. Volvo R-lines, many of the brands that have high performance versions have offered bodykits for their mas-produced versions since before most of Veeky Forums was born.
Liam Morgan
Comparing Audis to Mercedes.
You retarded son?
Bentley Young
Audi, Merc and BMW by and large occupy the same market niche.
Mercedes do offer retardedly luxurious vehicles that BMW and Audi don't, such as the S class and the Mercedes-Maybach, but then Audi (well, Volkswage AG) own Bentley and BMW own Rolls Royce, so they don't need to.
Compare a base C-class to a base A4 and a base BMW 3-series. Similar prices, similar engines with similar performance and mpg, similar fucking everything. Same goes for the A-class/A3/1-series, E-class/A6/5-series, etc etc.
Get fucked.

>Capitalism is driven by marketing Capitalism is driven by market demand, marketing influences market demand. Get it right.
Jayden Taylor
only poorfags and americans care about brand devaluation.
James Gonzalez
Buyers being stupid doesn't mean products have the same positioning or pedigree.
Audi has marketed itself as premium. But that doesn't make it premium. You can't polish a turd into a diamond. And rebadged VWs aren't a premium product. Especially FWD or masked quattro.
Get bent faggot.
Samuel Sullivan
richfag here. I'd say depends on the buyer, but lots of richfags certainly care about brand devaluation. It's not as cool to have an AMG if every pleb has one also, so you might look for something more unique.
I'm not this way, but some of my family and friends are very much into the brand and exclusivity more than anything else. They buy all those special editions and sort of low volume stuff simply because it is unique. Everything is fast now, everything is good, now they want something different and unique. Something that is fast and great but also impressive and shows high status.
Brody Mitchell
>It's not as cool to have an AMG if every pleb has one also, so you might look for something more unique.
Oh shit that Mercedes that costs 10k€ less is available with an AMG badge now. Better kill my self I will never recover
Owen Sanders
This jgc is a large powerful SUV that is the be all end all to straight line SUV performance. And its just getting started. Theyre like camaros they can be much faster for cheap too
The gle is a manlet pseudo amg that is at its performance bottle neck stock. Is there even a smaller SUV made by them?
Dominic Carter
I wouldn't say they are upset by it or "going to go kill themselves" - they'll just buy something else more exclusive.
Nolan Ward
assmad cuck detected
emissions standards have absolutely skyrocketed due to the CO2 lobby, its not a fucking joke
Jose Campbell
>AMG >exclusive
AMGs never were exclusive. Poorfag detected
Bentley Edwards
Nothing has changed. There has been an amg sport package for a long time. It's just a body kit and wheels and sport steering wheel
Julian Richardson
I wasn't implying they were, they are just less so now, arguably.
Only really exclusive AMGs was when you get them custom made in Alfalterbach. They'll do custom interiors and paint jobs and accessories. We had our G Wagons done there with night vision, special seating, and gun racks for hunting.
Evan Walker
BMW does the same shit with the 135 M Coupe and other series.
Jayden Bell
They probably figured the return was worth it.
An extra $15,000 on a car that costs $100 extra to make looks like a car that everyone wants?
All the plebs that buy the thousands of pleb tier mercs will more than make up for the loss of the 10 people that stop buying the actual rockets.
>S550l is what real rich people drive anyway.
Jonathan Roberts
>G wagon
fucking arab
Dylan Flores
Are the new twin turbo V6s for the 43 AMGs not being made at Affalterbach?
Wyatt Hughes
Absolutely. And I'm sure like someone said earlier they are working on some kind of supercar or whatever.
On a non-exclusivity subject: Not sure how the GT S is doing for them - that was supposed to compete with the 911 but I don't see very many of them.
Brayden Gutierrez
Nope. Those engines are made on the regular line.
Asher Kelly
Oh. Well that should keep maintenance costs down.
Landon Reyes
I'd hate to own an out of warranty car from like 2010 and on. So many computers and widgets to break. Black mystery boxes everywhere...

You cant afford new amg anyway so why are yoj mad about merc wanting more money? Only explanation is that you want to buy 15 year old beaten to death amg to get you status and now you cant

the original production amg mercedes was a C36. Don't you think the C43 is getting back to its routes?

Nice color and normal wheels and youd never know it has little monster under bonnet. I drove mk7 gti and its a blast, very practical and fun to drive. Merc can only be better, it kills gti in acceleration and is better buid quality
