So instead of FWD cars for "muh economy", wouldn't it be cheaper to have RWD mid engine cars? That way you get RWD and economy.

1. It'd be harder for people to drive
2. Serviceability would suck
Smart car is RR I think, but it's an exception.

This

There's a couple other euro cars with RR too, like the twingo

what? no

only works if the engine is tiny otherwise you loose useful trunk space

or you could get the fuck over dumb shit like drivetrains and realize there's more to a car

you know kinda crazy idea

New Twingo is literally a Smart ForFour with a bodykit and a different engine.

FWD is trash tho

says who

real enthusiasts

FWD is literally econobox: the drivetrain

repeat this till you get it

EFFU EFFU
CAN'T COMPETE

REAR WHEEL DRIVE
CAN'T BE BEAT

what do you drive

Smart ForFour is literally a Twingo with a bodykit and different engine

hi summer

Porsche 930 ofc

FWD:
>>Cheap to manufacture
>>Programmed understeer is safer than potential oversteer conditions
>>Creates platforms with more interior room
>>Allows for most of the noise and heat making components to be further isolated from the drivers compartment.

Mid rear cooling is also an engineering problem. The current setups are very good, but require many concessions that would not be tenable in the 15-25k passenger car market.

Stop ban evading, Mrcummy.

Drivetrain is what you make of it. Your driving style will have to change for every layout, but performance comes from the driver more than the car. You have the opinion that every FWD is economy trash, and for the most part you would be right. But if RWD cars were the norm, you would see just as much cut rate engineering from them. There are good FWD cars, but since the platform lends itself more to low dollar passenger cars, you will see more bad examples.

Don't discount anything wholesale.

it was taken over by shitposters the instant op posted tho

OP asked a legitimate question.

stop

That's one of the shitposters you just responded to. Learn to recognize their posting style. Grammar, vocabulary, etc.

No, because you'd then have no boot/passenger space, AND no forgiving FWD handling.

Dagumi wannabes who have never driven in any sort of race and think every FWD car is a 1.8l corolla (which would still beat their RWD shitbox)

"FWD sucks" means "you can't drift FF" in their misinformed vocabulary

meanwhile real life dagumi drivers do the touge on a fwd car

FWD is more about interior space than fuel economy.

I dont think OP meant fuel economy. FWD is about economy because a transversal engine with a transaxle all together is much cheaper than RWD.

Stupidly, the Twingo and Smart don't have that.

>Cooling, collision safety, cabin space, handling, servicing, etc.
same reasons you don't see 4dr mid engine cars

i prefer fwd

1. Doesn't fit the narrative the car companies have been feeding people since the 1980s that FWD is safer.
2. The average person buying a car doesn’t want RWD. Remember that 2/3rds of new cars are bought by women. They believe the company because why would they say FF is safer if it wasn't true?
3. MR drivetrains would either make the car cost more or cut into profits, neither of which is OK to the car companies.

Won't the inherent packaging virtues of electric motors and battery packs make this discussion obsolete?

>Porsche Panamera universally hated by Veeky Forums

... what?

So I just found out that Porsche put the engine in the front this time.
