I never understood the hate for Marie.

This might just be a case of nostalgiafagging since I doubt anyone would really make a big deal of the character if she was in the original P4. Looking at her as a character and not as a waifu war contestant, she's pretty much on par with the other P4 characters in terms of writing.

She's actually more interesting than the other girls. A down syndrome, shy, poem writer weather girl that resides in the Velvet Room is more interesting than laughing girl, tomboy girl, idol girl, detective girl. And her design is a lot less bland the others too. I mean the characters look anime as fuck already, so why not.

Also, her social link scenes are just a rehash of Elizabeth's except this time she acts tsundere-ish which is universally hated by everyone. I don't think Marie is an amazing character but then again I can say the same for the others. I think if Marie was in the original and the new girl to be added was Chie or Yukiko people will be like "Generic tomboy girl with shit backstory added? Worst girl!" Or "Boring hime with shit backstory added? Worst girl"

Marie just came at the wrong time, I guess.

Better get used to it, my uncle works for Atlus and he says every male character and 2 female characters are voiced by Yuri Lowenthal.
