so im getting my probationary licence in a week but my mx5 (miata) is gutless as fuck. now i obviously want to upgrade it so its not slow as fuck but i dont know where to start.
turbo is out of the question and ill have to risk having intake and exhaust system but i need a list of other descreet mods i can do while staying n/a, where do i start?

how about you get a full license and spend a couple months learning how to be a safe driver before you spend daddy's money on turbos.

Any NA mods you do will provide no noticeable difference.
My suggestions are
1. Get an exhaust you like the sound of
2. Sways, spring/shocks, wheels tires
3. Make it look good if exterior mods are your thing.

You could put a little basket on the passenger side that holds your scissors, trimmer, blow dyer, and hair dyes

>Sway bars, tires, coilovers (keep at stock height unless you want to attract attention or w/e) for "muh grip" and "muh handling" = able to take corners faster - you should also make sure your brakes and shit are all gud-2-go and not running some cheap-ass pads

>I recommend Racing Beat's air intake for the NA as it's pretty much one of the only two dyno proven intakes for the first generation, alternatively there's the "Randall" cowl intake which requires you to cut a hole in the firewall - so you may regret it later on if you choose that one instead, I don't advise it...
Of course you can make knockoffs of them, there is a thread on a DIY Racing Beat intake that'll save you money.

Oops, 1.6 uses an AFM not MAF... I think. Forgot, fug it w/e. Anyway, IIRC, the OBX header is p gud for the NA (I've heard it flows better than Racing Beat's header as well, and it's a bit cheaper)... but you won't really get any gains from it if you don't change out the exhaust/intake completely and get a tune. Headers and shit are usually expensive as fuck so I don't really recommend it unless you have le daddies monies or something. Maybe look into getting a 6spd transmission so you can get some shorter gearing. And if you don't like the car much/don't think you'll be driving it for long, then don't do shit to it you faggot. Just sayin'. I see so many dumb fucking kids tear shit out their cars and buy cheap garbage that makes it ride like ass, so they bitch about it/lose interest and sell it as a steaming pile of shit. Don't be a cunt.
