It's not the flanking mechanics, some (most) roofs just don't block los at all. I'd love for someone to fix all of the see-through walls, but modders are too busy making unironic cheats.

I'm rather disappointed nobody's done it yet. I really want to utilize all these sexy buildings to get those vertical elements in there (one of the things I was really excited about per-release), but I can't because ADVENT's infrastructure is McMansion-tier.

The latter, if anything. I really just want them to function like solid structures and not invisible walls, like described. There's no reason an ADVENT trooper should be able to get a crit on a soldier who's down the street, two floors up, and behind half cover.

At any rate, giving a defense boost is trivial. I forgot where it's stored exactly, but I recall one of the inis having a line about increased defense against targets at lower elevation commented out, you'd just have to enable it again.
I assume reducing crit chance as well is easily achievable.
I'm actually looking through them right now, I'll see if I can find that part again.

I don't even know which values I would modify if I could. I would spend so long deciding which to modify that I have to wonder if there are any that would stand out that I'd change on the spot.
Then again I would definitely take savescumming over ini modifications if I could. Provided I had at least two save slots. One for a back up way in the past, and another for fucking around on a daily basis.

I'm playing Long Dong for the first time and I have to say that I expected something else. I know it's gonna get way harder later but the first 2 months are fairly slow. I hate to use this word but it's almost comfy, building the base at your own pace, training rookies on weak ayys and generally just having a chill time with no rush for satellites like in vanilla.

okay what the fuck, i've been downloading xcom 2 for like 12 hours now and i unchecked the dlcs because i want my first run to be vanilla and the download went from 80% to zero. why jake? why?

Faces would be better. If they added like three faces for each race I'd have bought it in a heartbeat.

Why risk it? Set the Anarchy slider to zero, leave the dlc missions active but don't do them, and you're set.
You only get the alien weapons with the first scan and the rulers don't appear until you do the mission.
Same for Shen's gift, until you do the mission absolutely nothing happens.

Has anyone ever had an issue where a soldier starting a retaliation mission with phantom won't be selected with tab/shift and when manually selected won't display move ranges and can't move at all? I'm using LW toolkit to mess with squad sizes, but all the other soldiers I put in work just fine. I'm wondering if that one soldier is bugged in some way.

An additional point to add for - scan for the weapons, even if you're not going to use them. If you scan for the weapons too late the other missions will literally never pop up from scanning. Seems like they didn't really test players ignoring the scan until August or something.

I didn't know the first scan was just weapons when playing through it the first time. I thought it would activate the rulers immediately, and wanted to avoid it until mag weapons. I can't imagine they'll ever fix said bug, but I also can't imagine too many people are ever affected by it (and each person only will be once, so eh).

Shredder, smoke or suppression. Smoke eliminates the exposed crit bonus.

What can I turn off or tone down in this game to keep it looking decently but give me a better framerate? I just want it to run at 50-60 without look worse than EW

Read through this, gives a nice breakdown of pretty much everything with expected FPS gains or losses. Includes screenshots to see what you're potentially missing out on.

Get rid of SSAO and DoF. Set shadows to Medium.
Try disabling screen-space reflections, but I'm not sure if that'll be much help.

Nah, first scan only gives you the weapon, you can just stash them somewhere and ignore them if you want to skip the dlcs. Later on you get two more scans, one for the rulers and one for Shen. The scans themselves don't expire (although if you leave halfway through it says it will in 9 days, don't know what happens if you actually do let them expire) and you can safely do that as well.
Only after you actually scan the PoI it will prompt you to go on mission, and until you actually complete them, you're playing vanilla.

Yes, I understand that now. Hence why I said first time. Doesn't change the fact that they made it so that if you scan for it too late you're fucked out of later missions since they do not pop. I scanned for the first item in August because of reasons, and even scanning all the way until December I never got another mission from the Alien Ruler DLC.

It's a non-issue in the long run, like I said. Each person will only be affected by it once, and I can't imagine too many people ignore it as long as I did.

It's a long war addition. I think it's in the description as well as a tooltip.

Just suppress and take potshots. Suppression is absolutely godlike in X1, and Disks that are suppressed in my experience will always overwatch. Be warned though your suppressor should be in full cover, trying to suppress from low will have the disk fire at you instead. It's not a great shot by any means, but you can still get XCOMd

Personal edit is to force five steam vents to spawn and then only pretend that two of them exist. Because I couldn't be arsed to deal with a base that puts both vents on the very bottom floor and on the opposite sides.
