The game gives away gold for playing 5v5, loging in every 5 days or so, and various events. There's also the Growth Plan.

I've spent 0 Dollars in this game and I have like 8 prem ships, half a year of VIP time, several permanent paints and other stuff.

The Agrincourt is a pretty good premium if you enjoy memeing things in one salvo and it can also be used in KTKM for extra silver gainz.

If you are going to spend $$ on this game.
Get the growth plan.

The recharge packs give 2x returns the first time you each of them.
Growth plan can use the $13.6 pack, which gives 2x the first time you get it (so $27.2 return instead of the normal $13.6)
and then use 10.8k of that gold on the plan. Becomes becomes 22.8k and 172k free XP as you go up in tiers.(Claimed at T4,5,6,7,8)

It used to have a limiter of "You have to choose to get this before you research T5" but they removed that with the patch.
