WHY the fuck does the r35s R38DETT weigh 608 lbs?

WHY the fuck does the r35s R38DETT weigh 608 lbs?
I dont get how Nissan made the engine so heavy.
How is that even possible.

R38DETT-608lbs
all iron 454 7.4L- 590lbs
Ford 5.0L-445lbs
LS7 7.0L-458lbs
LS9 6.2L-530lbsL

lurk moar

608lbs not including any intercoolers or piping.

>search VR in wikipedia
>Fully equipped with the first set of catalytic converters, turbos, all of the engine driven accessories, front differential assembly, and turbo outlet pipes, the engine weighs 608 lb (276 kg)

its summer after all

that's still more than a fully dressed Big block from the 1970s
why is is so damn heavy?

>doesn't understand the engine has the whole front differential assembly to it, along with all the pipes, unlike a the big block that was just weighted as a longblock

boy it's sure is summer

Helps explain why the GT-R is 4000lbs

that still doesn't explain why it's heavier than a blown V8 senpai.

intercoolers are very light
diff is only 35lbs

>intercoolers and piping are light
>differentials are 35lbs

its okay, we understand you are retarded, no need to keep trying

>tall
>big
>heavy
>drinks gas worse than most v8s
>low redline due to layout imbalance, and turbos
>has to be built in a hermetically sealed cuck shed, so that the nipponese semen used to glue it together can be folded a million times.
>all to make 600hp

What is this good for again? Might as well go turbo 4 banger. Just as stressed, and better fuel economy and weight, if you're limited by displacement.

It's made with space metal and Nipponese blood magic.

The Viper engine use to weigh around 700 or even 800 lbs when it was first used.

It has since been cut down to around 650 lbs (using aluminum) Even with the old heavy Iron block engine the first gen vipers still weighed around 3,200 lbs which just shows how incredibly fucking lightweight the chassis was.

C5 vette weighed around 3,100 lbs at its lightest (c5z trim) its engine was nowhere near as heavy as the iron-block viper's. Even now with the latest gen Viper's engine being much heavier overall than the Corvette's the Viper still weighs less (just a hair over 3400 lbs compared to the C7Z's 3500)

I wonder just how much more extreme the Viper would be if they could somehow cut the engine's weight down even more (to GM small-block levels of weight) while still achieving the same level of power.

Also op considering the gtr beats just about every car being sold currently with better fuel economy, why the fuck does it matter?

And no you're not going to swap a vr38 into anything you benchracing faggot

literally have a medium sized intercooler in my garage, shit is only 18lbs

you aren't answering my question.

you mean 500 Hp on 91 octane
545 on 93
600 on 98

> Benchracers hating on the GTR while they own a Dodge Neon tier shitbox and are supreme enthusiasts

Never change Veeky Forums

the Viper's new 8.4L v10 weights 601lbs

that's twice the displacement and the same weight.

>literally have a medium sized intercooler in my garage, shit is only 18lbs
Timestamp of intercooler on scale.

well thats usually what it takes in order to build an engine that doesn't explode after 6 miles

yeah dude, your intercooler is the same twin intercooler found in the GTR

nice Lexus
my mom also likes those cars.

All the GT-R attracts is benchracing retards. GT-R fanboys ride the bus while GT-R haters are stuck with mom's Camry.

Its worth noting that Car and Driver had that exact same Corvette before Motorcuck got ahold of it for its lightning lap comparo a few weeks before.

yes, the corvette is unreliable, we get that

Turning into a fireball is better than overheating apparently

too bad that isnt a GTR

carbuzz.com/news/2015/10/17/Here-s-Why-The-Corvette-Z06-Crapped-Out-On-Motor-Trend-s-Best-Driver-s-Car-Test-7729818/

Thanks, yeah she told me she liked it last time I took her out in it.
She likes my Benz more though.

Veeky Forums as a whole are benchracing retards lol

i dont think you understand that is irrelevant

the fact that taking your corvette to several track days means it will shit itself on the 4th or 5th track day doesnt help at all

Not a gtr, but the same drivetrain they're going to put into the gtr

stop replying to the stancecuck, dumb summerfags

I'm guilty for replying to poorfags so it's a two way street :(

no, there are no news about the new GTR

try again

MUH BOOST

I'm not gonna remove the front end, but intercoolers are VERY light.

ur probably a cuck-lord who doesn't even modify cars.

yes, and please, stay on your side of the street gypsy

As long as you stay on the designated shitting street, spergo

im not an indian, your post makes no fucking sense shitskin

>next gtr rumored to be hybrid and possibly fwd based
>lmp1 is hybrid and fwd based
>Speaking to TopGear.com, Ben Bowlby - Nissan’s creative genius behind the LMP1 GT-R and the DeltaWing - confirmed that the new GT-R would feature an iteration of the twin-turbo V6 powering the company’s Le Mans entrant.

“The 3.0-litre V6 [from the LMP1 car] is a sort of god-child of the true, road-going GT-R,” he said, noting that the unit’s direction injection, turbo integration and combustion technology are all ‘applicable to the road’.

“It is truly an early ancestor of what will be a future Nissan GT-R engine,” he added.

>Clouded head lights
Way to look poor

also, the R35 intercooler wights 21.164lbs with mounting hardware.
that doesnt explain the 150+lb difference

makes sense, the current V6 is octain limited.
a direct injection version that's hopefully lighter, would help a lot.

>falling for marketing propaganda

top kek, they aren-t working on the new GTR until 2020

lurk moar

Can tell you never neon acr

what do you mean by Lurk more?

1st post on this shit thread.

Whatever you say, alphonse

you are a retard user, congratulations

ok

200cc 2stroke, i think im allowed to post

your argument is invalid cuck-lord.
you lose

nice trigger words kid!

one day you will understand how a pair of intercooled turbochargers, exhaust piping and a differential can rake up the weight of an engine up to 150lbs, meanwhile, keep making yourself an ass on the internet

608lbs? isn't it only a v6?

pushrodcucks on suicide watch

I've got an EJ255, can i post?

the viper never had an iron block, it was aluminum from the beginning with the engine weighing just a little over 700lbs.

the first proto block was iron

its just a 10 cyl RB engine after all

kek, i just arrived. It's amazing how I trigger people without even posting.

sorry, no viper ever sold to the public had an iron block.

happy now, might as well talk about the gtr's with v8s

my post was not meant to correct you user, just add info to it

>gtr's with v8
tell me more

do your magic senpai

>implying the Corvette's engine doesn't have more stress than the GTR's engine

>its just a 10 cyl RB engine after all

>dayssincecorvetteversusgtr.jpg

Japanese engineering has always been inferior OP. Those disgusting gooks can't even build good boats much less an engine.

FTFY

It's based on the Chrysler RB Big-block which first appeared in 1959

>implying a 1.3 liter supercharger heat soaking itself is the same

>this assmad
>implying overheating and potentially exploding doesn't put stress on an engine

kek, it's time for gm fangirls to get BTFO yet again.

it's actually based on the LA, dont tell anyone i messed up tho

I goofed it's the LA not the RB

>the only american car faster than the GTR is italian

top kek ameribubblers

>engine weights nearly a ton
>car is still faster than american sports cars

americucks on suicde watch

>he deleted his post to avoid getting btfo any harder
GM IS FINISHED!!

>assmad that a 500 hp """compact""" v6 weighs nearly a tonne

There is ZERO fucking excuse for that shit. Its like nissan engineers scratched their heads and asked "how can we make more power?" And the answer was to add hundreds of pounds of lead weight.

Its fucking garbage

>muh r34
kek, try again.

GM BTFO!!!!!!!!!

And yet it's still ten seconds faster to accelerate a mere 20mph than a even more powerful, "super light" amerishit engine

>gm fangirls BTFO so hard they stopped replying
Atleast they tried. I wish I could say the same for GM's "engineering" team.

>absolutely CANNOT TURN
>engine was recycled toyota corolla engine and sounds like a vacuum cleaner
>brakes shatter in half if they get wet
>washing car voids warranty
>using launch control destroys transmission (dat nissan quality) and voids warranty (transmission costs $75,000 btw)
>all wheel drive is for pussies (enjoy ur glorified m8n8van)
>only available with an automatic transmission (SERIOUSLY????)
>weeb magnet

I would rather walk to work barefoot on rusty fucking nails than to be forced to drive such an awful piece of shit on a regular basis. It might have made a quick lap once before exploding, but it's still a truly awful car. It has no redeeming qualities.

kek

> all this mad because the gtr holds the world record for fastest volume production car
Roflmao

That's not a fair comparison. The corvette was in 7th gear with a proper manual transmission, but the gtr has an automatic so it just down shifted automatically.

kek, this retarded hick is triggered hard as fuck

>NO! IT'S NOT FAIR!!

> making up excuses
Maybe if the corvette didn't need three overdrive gears to meet fuel consumption requirements it wouldn't be such a slow pos

9th is good too I guess? Try staying on the track next time tho

a GTR doesnt downshift on manual mode

you should probably try harder not to look like an agricultural-tier retard

I can only imagine what bench racers are like outside of Veeky Forums

>"Hey user meet my new girlfriend, Anonette"

This is some top level autistic shit right here. Thats like saying s class mercedes are better than bmw's because they have metal valve stem caps vs bmw's plastic ones.

>implying weeaboos ever see the light of day

It's the same kids posting the same shit day in and day out here for years.

>excuses
t. assmad gm fangirl

> "ten second difference over 20mph is arbitrary"
Roflmao try damage control a bit less

>mfw the corvette automatic transmission is a slushbox

kek, why can't GM afford a DCT?

Nurburgring is closed pizza boy

they had to appeal to the american market some how, so they made it pigfat to resonate with their potential customers.
