Bedford CA vans

Hey Britbongs, these look comfy as fuck. What can you tell me about them?

They have almost most of everything that's good about a VW and in some ways they're better.

The Perkins 4.108 Diesel is slow, but will go on forever. If you find a C/A with a Perkins its likely still on the original engine.

The other engine was a 1.5L petrol from the Vauxhall Victor. Infact most of the drive train was shared with the Vauxhall Victor.

The one in your picture is the second version with the smaller grille and curved windscreen.
Attached is the first version with split windscreen, flat glass and split grille.
3 speed column shift, small seats, and no power brakes or power steering so you may find it difficult to drive if you're used to power everything.
But its still quite fun to drive and easy on bumps thanks to the independent front suspension.

The sliding door is the shit for hot climates and delivery men.

Today they may seem quirky, but they were probably the UK's best van for the day and remained so until the Ford Transit BTFO of everything in 1965.
Morris was still using pre-war tech.
Pretty much the only worthy UK competitors were the Landrover 109 van and the Ford Thames.

The French had the Citroen H, Peugeot D3, D4 which were bretty good, and the Germans had VW, Taunus Transit, and Mercedes L319. VW sold pretty well and the Taunus Transit was good, but the best over all from every country was obviously Mercedes.

what can you sum up in a few sentences about them?

didnt ask for a fucking story

I'm not that guy but you're a cunt senpai

>Bedford
They'll be unreliable as fuck and rusted to shit, then. British cars of the era were like that due to communist-infiltrated unions.

You're thinking of the 70's and British Leyland.

Bedfords were great. The J Type, KM, TL etc. All solid Trucks.

Welp. I was going to point out that anything before the japanese introduced reliable cars as an alternative is inherently UNreliable, especially these days, but dem quads don't lie.

why so rude when asking for help?

You're an asshole. Fuck you. May you get raped in the back of a poorly maintained Bedford be a guy with face tattoos and questionable citizenship

Sik pents

Fucking illegal British immigrants raping all our op's

the modern view of that era no longer blames the work force but shoddy americanised management strategies.

and i think you'll find communism and socialism are two seperate things.

also, just to keep the record straight, the ENGLISH workforce for BL,Vauxhall,Ford etc were nothing but lazy good for nothing cunts who couldn't find work elsewhere.

BASED Scottish workforce took PRIDE in everything they built from battleships to the humble Hillman Imp(design flaws are not work forces fault) and only went on strike when absolutely nessesary,e.g. 3 workers killed in a fire caused be faulty electrics

No, the unions of the time were flat-out infiltrated by the KGB. Same with the coal miners.

Also, scots can't be relied on to do anything, not even farm properly. That's why we killed most of them and shipped the rest off to scotland. Sheep were more profitable.

no.

you've been misslead and missinformed , especially about the miners.

or are you some Tory voting pig fucking Saville supporting pedo?

do some basic research my man

>years of strikes and walkouts
>unions not to blame
Pick one.

I really like the looks of these things, can they be modernized to function in Burgerland?

Depends on what you mean by modernized.

Engine that can take highway speeds and unleaded gas

Transmission with more than 3 speeds, preferably with overdrive

Disc brakes, preferably all around

Steering and suspension look like they will work fine as-is.

Mike and Edd need to work on this one instead of just driving it. They are some seriously based bongs

>Engine that can take highway speeds and unleaded gas

I'd look at Ford motors first, but I think the Pinto is too heavy.

>Disc brakes, preferably all around

Front suspension design is very similar to the Vauxhall Viva and those came with power disc brakes. Not big ones, but still power disc.
Many British suspension systems were sometimes almost interchangeable.

The more modern CF van had a similar arrangment. The CF2 and Victor FD had power steering and discs up front and bigger springs, so a possible swap of the subframe and steering box would solve a lot of your "problems"

With heavier springs you could drop in a 2.0L Ford pinto OHC engine with an automatic gearbox. That would get it to move a bit better.

There's not a lot of room for bigger engines.

you should get a commer if you really want to experience authentic british engineering

Wrong Bedford, m8

Get a Rascal. Literally the best van, forever.

beep beep mutha fucka

Based TOB defending our pre thatcher glory once again

When you see them from a distance they look like floating toasters because the axles were narrower than the body.

looks like a super carry to me

Because it is.

The best version of the Carry was built by Italian company Casalini and featured a supercharged 200cc Lombardini diesel engine and a 5 speed gearbox with low range and 2 reverse gears.
It was available in truck and van form.

The rear differential was limited slip for better traction

The crank had a very long key that extended right to the removable front grill for PTO attatchment.

The supercharger also had a 80l air tank and could function as a compressor to run air tools.
It had an electric clutch that you could switch on and off while driving.

There was also a 3.5kw inverter so you could use the engine as a generator.

The latest model of the Casalini Kerry has a 50cc Diesel engine and an automatic gearbox and is nowhere near as good as the original.
