pretty fun so far. definitely noticing that anything over 80 feels a little sketchy/shakey. i guess thats ue to the 5-speed and overall size. will take some getting used to.
any recommendations on things first things to upgrade? 2001 nb
Yeah miatas feel like shit over like 80. They feel like they're going to fall apart/vibrate to pieces. Doesnt stop me from topping it out once in a while though lol
John Turner
anything to help this or it is what it is?
what gen you got?
Adrian Johnson
Longer gears would probably help, but you sacrifice acceleration. Dynamat would also help
I have a '97 NA
Zachary Sanchez
>Yeah miatas feel like shit over like 80.
I have no problem, even at 120. Strange?
Robert Phillips
Might be the tires. I have fresh rubber on my 90 and it feels perfectly fine at 80 even though there is a bunch of shaking/rattling over every bump.
Ian Jenkins
Why the 2001 NB?
Tyler Wood
He's saying he has a 2001 NB not the first upgrade should be a 2001 NB.
Hudson Cox
Look to see if your leaking oil on the valve cover and if it is then don't buy a Fel-Pro gasket to replace it. Shifter boot rebuild. Does the suspension need updating because its old? Fluids like transmission and rear diff.
Evan Myers

My 2001 NB has been acting up recently. Stalled out in the heat twice now, seems to happen after I've been driving around a while on a hot day. After that it just revs to 1.5 until it stalls out again, the second time I had to push it into a parking lot and wait for it to cool down before i could go home. what do?

You don't have coolant
Mason Evans
I'm pretty sure my overflow reservoir was full though, and the water temperature gauge was pointing all the way to C
Zachary Cooper
Buy 67K mile 2004 Mazdaspeed Miata for 11K and go broke or wait for a Special Edition NB2 to finally go for sale in my area?
I have my eyes set on an 01' Special Edition, but they are just so fucking hard to find now.
Jonathan Diaz

Parker Baker
How broke is broke? If flat broke, no emergency money kept back or anything, nah.
Camden Torres
Open your radiator cap when the car is cold. If you don't see coolant, top it up. Also, check for any damage on and around the cap that could prevent proper sealing. Mine was boiling coolant, when I pulled the cap there was a little Rock on the rubber in the cap. Took it out, problem solved
Dominic Carter
Thanks
I checked the radiator cap, some coolant spilled out when I loosened it, and there didn't seem to be anything around the cap. The radiator was filled almost to the top.
I don't know if its worth mentioning but both times it happened I was stopped in neutral with the AC running. I've been googlan a bit and it seems that the AC could be the shitting factor

Finally installed my GV DIY tails last night. I had waited 4 years to buy a set, so I finally ordered them from Rev9 back in January and received them in February. Love the way they look, but I am really disappointed in the quality. I'm not sure if the originals are better than the DIY, but I'm definitely going to have to do some more minor modifications to make them fit better.
James Thompson
they do look cool. where did you find them? I'm trying to find some different headlights for a NB But am only to track down like one style from Google
Mason Lewis
Rev9autosport com. IMO they have a lot of the best looking stuff available for Miatas, but everything is really expensive.
Luis Collins
Yea, the whole car
Isaiah Rivera
by DIY, are you talking about the actual lenses? or the light garnish/panel
Logan Cox
It comes as a bunch of separate pieces. There's the rear finish panel itself, the two brake light/turn signals, one reverse light, two fiberglass pieces that go one the outside where the OEM tail light was, and two more fiberglass pieces that are like cups that go on the inside of the trunk. The tail lights and reverse lights aren't plug and play, so you have to cut the old harness and splice in the new one. I already had to do a bit of modifying to a few pieces to get it all to work right, but there's still more I'm going to have to do when I pull the panel off to be painted or wrapped.
Justin Russell
I saw this miata on CL and i really like the bodykit it has the owner said it was a factory one called "appearance package 2" Is there anyway to buy this still and would if fit a NA too?
Grayson Lewis
Why?
Christian Cook
Picked up an 00 5 speed back in April. Nice southern car with only 143k.
I have become a detailing junkie keeping this thing look nice, wash and booster wax every Saturday.
Just ordered pic related from Crutchfield to replace the flaky ass stock head unit. It was the only non-ricey one I could find for a reasonable price
It came with mismatched shitty all seasons on stock 14s and i'm looking to eventually get some BFG Pro Comps with Konig Helium 15s in bronze. I think it will look really good with the green color of the car.
Joseph Sullivan
Here is an example what I'm going for. I am now thinking the car would look better lower with this setup. But that would have to be way down the road.
Camden Cooper
It's commonly referred to as tupperware, and no it wont fit an NA, at least not directly.
Henry Perez
Sounds like your wheels/tires may be slightly unbalanced or you have some kind of suspension issue. The car shouldn't vibrate excessively at any speed. Though I suppose if youre not used to driving a miata it might just be that the car is a bit less "refined" than youre used to.
First things you should do with the car is make sure everything is in working order. Then if you want to upgrade I'd say tires should be your first purchase.
Lincoln Morales
Well the first mods i did to mine were Coilovers first then my Wheel and Tire combo. 225/45/15 all around. bought a fender roller so i can roll these fenders later in the week.
Cooper Williams
Going to dump some pics of the issues I ran into with the GV tails. Not really sure how to handle this. I'm honestly pretty pissed off by the quality, especially because of the price. I guess I'm going to have to do what I can to work with it and hope everything will fit properly in the end.
Here's the driver's side sticking out quite a bit. I haven't used the 3M tape included to permanently attach the sides to the body, so that could be a part of why it's sticking out so far. I'm thinking either that, the screws that hold the tail lights in are too long and they're hitting the body of the car, pushing the panel outwards, or all the wires inside that cup piece in the trunk are preventing the tail light from being pulled in as far as it needs to go.
Henry Hill
Pulled it out of the parts car to sell
Yeah man I've heard those are not the best fitting items. They also leak water into the trunk from what I've heard
Adrian Nelson
The passenger side. This side is way worse than the driver's. At least with the driver's side I'm able to push the panel in to where it sits pretty flush. The passenger side won't budge at all when you push on it. I'm trying not to be too rough with it so I don't create any cracks or anything in the fiberglass.
Oliver Peterson
I heard that don't fit perfect, too, but I wasn't expecting to run into this many problems. I had to modify it a bit just to get the panel on the car. Also heard about leaking, so I bought some duct seal compound to seal them off. The instructions say to use silicone caulk, but I didn't want something that permanent.
The driver's side tail light sits slightly crooked in the panel. I'm probably going to have to fill and sand all the pre-drilled holes, then drill my own to make it sit properly.
Jaxon Baker
The tail lights themselves are held in by 3 sheet metal screws which are screwed into pre-drilled holes. As I was screwing them in, I was being sure to alternate between the screws so that the tail light would be pulled in evenly. Almost every screw I screwed in started to crack the gel coat around the hole. I didn't even screw this one in all the way because I was afraid it would do too much damage to the panel. When I take the panel back off, I'll have to reinforce these areas so this hopefully doesn't happen when I reinstall it.
Kayden Gonzalez
And here's the passenger side fiberglass cup piece in the trunk. 1 bolt is missing from the bottom on each piece because there's a metal threaded insert on fiberglass piece on the outside of the trunk that was preventing the panel from being installed. I had to cut the insert in half just to get the panel on, and I'm going to have to cut the bolts in half so I can thread them in without hitting the panel. You can see how full the cup is, which I think might be why I can't get the panel to sit flush.

Senpai, from the sounds of it you paid dearly for a piece of shit that doesn't fit well, broke from normal operation (screwing in a fucking lense? I mean come on) and probably grossly overpaid since you bought it from revlimiter.

Jealous, but why dip the wheels? I hate chrome, but it really fits the car. Maybe I'm just a purist.
I'd still have a little bit of wiggle room for emergency and whatnot. This would only bring me to 35% of my income going towards bills total with everything else I pay combined.
Worth it?
Sebastian Hernandez
Can anybody remember that company that sells a bolt-on blower kit for the NB8B's? And also if i buy one will I a: have a reasonable amount of power underfoot, and b: pass emissions
Here you go, looks like it makes around 250 whp on the nb
As for the emissions question I'd email track dog racing or something
David Butler
This thread is awfully gay.
Jace Long
thanks dude in aus so if worst comes to worst i'll just slap the blower on and never tell vicroads. pretty sure worst case from there would be getting a defect notice saying either pass emissions or pull the blower off
your input is greatly appreciated by all of us here at /mtg/
Parker Powell
:) Anytime bb, always happy to remind faggots of their degeneracy.
Jordan Phillips
I'm not a big fan of all the chrome that was on it so, yeah, I dipped it.
I developed a leak in the valve cover so I changed that out and then used red wrickle paint.

I currently don't have an exhaust shield on my NA6 due to broken mounting brackets and am worried about intake heat/melting the air box. Any recommendations as to aftermarket intake options with a heat shield? I figure I might as well switch to a CAI if I'm having to use an aftermarket exhaust shield.
Easton Cook
Bruhhhhhhhhhh... there aren't any side skirts on that car. It's just the rocker panels - all NAs came painted with a thick black strip there that's supposed to resist chips and scratches.
Anthony Lopez
It will be fine, intake charge temps will just be a little higher. My OBX header on the NB8 swap in mine is like 1/4" from the airbox and hasn't melted after 3500 miles

Drove my na 20 mins for lunch and a rear brake rotor/pad started smoking. I did the brakes a few weeks ago and had issues with getting that caliper to compress fully. It was fine the first 300 miles but I guess it's starting to seize now. Any easy fixes I should do or go ahead and replace the caliper?
Brody Hill
How often do you make fun of FF from.Miata?
