My mom used to own a v6 Pontiac Grand Prix, and it had horrible blind spots, a very cheap interior, and tons of torque steer. I don't think throwing a v8 in the equation would make it any better.

Just raising it doesn't touch the type or geometry of the suspension. If you just did a body lift it wouldn't affect anything. Even with jacking it up on springs or coilovers the suspension geometry remains exactly the same, you just move it to a different range. Like you may have 0 camber at 3" droop/bump, but moving it up to 1" droop/5" bump might get you 2 degrees of positive camber. Still the same geometry, it's just in a different range of the suspension now.

For all I know, he might even be able to clear 2-4" taller tires without touching anything, depending on backspacing and where he can land them in the fenderwell. I've never touched a C5, so I dunno.

OP if you want actual advice regarding your post...I own an 04 GTP (no V8) and work at a dealer and we have had a few Sonics come in. Sonics are shit and I wouldn't bother

My advice is to get a 04-05 GTP Comp G if you dig the GP's (has every feature the GXP does minus the suede/V8) for 3-4k and put at most 1k into the engine. You will be making so much more power than the GXP and you will have saved so much money in the process too. There is a HUGE aftermarket for these cars so you will have no problem finding parts at a pretty low cost. Not to mention the 3800 is meme tier reliable so you won't ever have it go bad on you (I'm at 180k on mine, all is good).

The weak links in the W-Bodys are the tranny and because the 5.3 is aluminum, there is alot more heat being soaked in by the tranny. Its pretty hard to find a GXP that hasn't had transmission work done to them. Also the DoD system can fail and there goes your heads/engine.

You could have picked worse cars, OP. However, the Pontiac will have transmission issues. The Sonics look great on paper but have not proven to be very reliable. Personally, I hated the way it drove, and the ugly (if not necessarily cheap) interior.

Look at an 09-14 Honda Fit Sport instead. You could also swing a 2011+ Focus sedan with a 5-speed, or a Mazda3.

If you need "performance" but like late-model FWD econoboxes, look at 2008-ish Sentra SE-R Spec V. Cheaper than Civic Si sedans but just as quick.
