BRZ / GT86 Safety Issues?

So I really want to get a BRZ or the new GT86. Seriously, one of the best looking cars out there. Small problem: my wife doesn't think they're safe and she's doesn't want me driving her son around in it.

Is this car a deathtrap? Two of my friends have them, and the performance is spectacular even stock, and I really want to join the club, so to speak.

The car is actually extremely sturdy and will keep you just as safe as an SUV, if not more. They say the frame is like a built in rollcage. What'd really make it a threat to your wive's son is you driving reckless, which she thinks you will be doing because it looks like a 500 bhp exotic supercar to her. Its a decent tuning platform yes, but just know you'll need to really build up the internals if you want to handle any kind of boost. This car would have been so much better if it had a less shit engine.

A lot of Japs turn these into drift mobiles. So the tuning potential is there, here in the US people just go the lazy route of engine swapping, but thats because we can.

It can handle 300 to 350 bhp easily with a simple turbo or supercharger without many mods. Squeezing out more is a chore and will get very expensive very fast. If you want a car in the 400 bph upwards range, you should probably get something with 6 or more cylinders.

You can only assume how much actual loss there is unless you have the engine actually hooked up by itself the way manufacturers do it to get their figures.

Loss on rwd can be anywhere from 12 to 20% depending on a lot of shit, including mechanical wear and tear from age

Bhp is used because manufacturers rate engines, not cars. Engine dynos make a lot more sense in development and application. It'd be silly to make several dyno runs for every model with the same engine.
