Why not pair a manual transmission up with a torque converter?

too much torque
...
Why not just buy a tesla and let it drive for you, you lazy fuck!
Chrysler did in the 30s. Look up Chrysler fluid drive. Was cool but robbed a shitload of power
Why not pair a torque converter with an automatic clutch? Engineering is meant to move forward.
Faggot
They did that
it's kinda stupid
en.m.wikipedia.org
Not the same, but similar
Needs a pump and a external cooler to work the converter.
Adding an extra 20lb in fluid.
Still needing a clutch to shift gears.
whats the point?
Enabling people with no skill to drive a car they don't understand cause first gear is too much of a bitch?
Why not a clutch with an auto transmission?
Why not pair a Manual torque converter with an automatic clutch?
its been done and its on every modern car
>Why not pair a manual transmission up with a torque converter?
Honda here. it works pretty well
Why not a torque converter into manual dog box?
Why not CVT into 5 speed?
Why not v belt with tensioner as clutching mech?
Why not massive chain drive with derailer and centrifugal clutch?
Why not a friction drive to the wheel with a steel roller?
Why not a giant fan mounted onto the rear of the car?
Cuz it dont werk gud.
(Keep in mind I think a torque converter in a dog box might be kind of neat. It takes away my most hated part of automatics and I still get to play with a lever)
>not putting an electric motor in front of an automatic trans in a pickup truck, and using a section of the bed to fit a large bank of batteries
>why not manual valvebody
Oh how little you truly know.
i think op meant that the tork converter would enable clutchless shifting?
id be kinda cool, especially if you could pair the tork converter with a lock up and it wouldn't lose much power
I have some German tractor or something that has the a movable tensioner attached to a clutch petal to tighten the belt onto the motor pulley to make the tractor move. Its called a speedex or something
>Why not a giant fan mounted onto the rear of the car?
that actually works tho
power loss from the torque converter.
The clutch, when engaged with the engine, is a one for one mating.
You always lose some hp and torque from the fluid transfer.
Acura paired a torque converter to a DCT for the new ILX and TLX. Does that count?
Essentially Acura's 8-g DCT that's in the TLX.
I've done a bit of work with then, They're an efficient trans.
expensive, wastes power
but it's been done
>dct
>torque converter
I think you mean DSG.
Anyway, so did aston martin on their $200k+ Rapide.
>Why not CVT into 5 speed?
It wouldn't be hard to do. just set fixed ratios to simulate each gear. The lag would be phenomenal, though.
DSG and DCT are the same thing you retard
>Has a planetary gearset
>Traditional manual
Pick one.
this transmission isn't so bad, it shifts pretty quick.
because manualfags would look rediculus if all they did was play with the cock shaped shifter and never moved their foot to engage the clutch
Look up a Clutchflite. Basically a Chrysler 727 with a clutch
The Steyr HLVW the Canadian army has uses a manual with a torque converter. Impossible to stall, but very strange to drive. 8 speed manual with air gate after 4th. The torque converter also promotes atrocious driving habits in people who have never driven stick before. Like leaving it in 6th and letting the tranny take one for the team or driving a manual entirely with your right foot. That causes some very abrupt 1st to second shifts.
Yeah lots of littler lawn tractors "back in the day" had a setup like that. Lots of people that make motorized bikes use a setup like that too.
Yeah, it would, but it's just not practical in traffic for obvious reasons.
You misunderstood what I meant. Literally CVT>5SPEED. it would be pretty pointless I would think.
Those fucking lenco top doorslammer transmissions use planetary gears like an auto but have a pedal operated clutch don't they?
That 6-second "street" nova uses one.
bmw has a quite nice thing, called smg
a normal manual transmission, but its operated with hydraulics, the clutch and the gears
but it takes likes 5000years to shift
Mark Harmon is looking like shit these days...
>Why not v belt with tensioner as clutching mech?
small farm tools do this. Lousy energy losses and very noisy, but it's hard to fuck up.
