You know homie... You're looking at some pretty cheap old cars. I might lower my standards just a bit if I were you. Rice tax can be expected with 30 year old cars that people still like to drive. Is it worth it to you? If not, get a Camry from the same era. They're dirt cheap because they're boring. Honestly, the 93 EX coupe isn't even that bad of a deal. You get the LS block which is nice and I'm sure you could negotiate him down under 3k. These guys aren't getting offers left and right. You just need to be willing to throw them a lowball and remind them you exist every few weeks until they cave.
Get an old ass Accord instead. They're still Honda, almost as small (some are smaller than newer Civics), and not as prized by ricer kids.
I've got an '89 beater with 436k on it. 5-speed makes it tolerable to drive.
